A couple of weeks ago my girlfriend called target sports canada (TSG) to plan a birthday party for me. She spoke to one of the associates there (store manager Darren) and on the phone he said it will be $75 dollar per group of 12. And that will come with ammo and 2 shooting lanes. He also said that there must be a 72 hr notification to cancel or else there will be a 20 dollar charge applied per person that don't show up. Three days ago my GF emailed TSG to reconfirm everything and that it was in fact $75 per group of 12 and she got a reply today that it was actually $75 dollar per person.... when she called and spoke to the owner he said that there is no way Darren (the store manager) could of said 75 dollar per group and pointed out that it says 75 dollar per person on their website, but it clearly does not and when we asked where on their website it says that, they dcouldn't answer us. When we asked to speak to Darren they said in a rude tone that they aren't going to argue with us anymore and they said that they are going to charge us the 20 dollar deposit if we don't show up and also said that Darren is not there....

So in the end we are not going to show up and they are going to charge us the 20 dollar deposit, is there any way we can get our money back or file a formal complaint?

I feel that they purposely took advantage of us when it is clearly their fault for providing us with false information.

To all the people out there that plan to go to TSG in the future DON'T!

Do you have anything in writing? Do THEY have anything in writing?

Did you pay the deposit with a CC? If so, call the CC company and inform them that you were mislead about the service and want to reverse the charge.

Unfortunately we do not have anything in writing, all quotes were made over the phone and the only thing they have in writing from us is the group booking form, which does not list any pricing. Yes we booked with a credit card. So do we just call the CC company and explain our situation?

Also my gf told me she emailed them 3 days in advance to confirm the prices and numbers (within the 72hr) and we didn't get a response until this morning....

That's what I would do. Call the cc company and file a complaint with them. Target sports has a really bad reputation of doing stuff like that. and they rip you off when it comes to pricing. There are nicer ranges you can go to if you want and most are $25/person for the day the thing is you do need to have your own firearms or go with someone who does.

Also when you call the credit card company ask them if there is someone you can email that information too.

My girlfriend called the CC company and they said they cannot cancel or block transactions unless it is a lost CC. She said to call the merchant to cancel it... but thats not going to happen..

No offense, but you, your girlfriend, and all those involved should have known that it wasn't $75 for a group of 12. (I don't think you can even have a birthday party at miniputt, laserquest for that price!!)

If you're even faintly aware of prices, you'd know there's no way in hell $75 would cover 12 people, let alone including ammo. Shooting is WAY more expensive then track racing, hi-fi, everything. The only pricier hobbies are hookers and blow.

As a matter of fact, a single person without any certifications, needs to pay a flat rate of $40-some odd dollars, with no ammo included.

Also, I know of course you're required to defend your girlfriend, but do you think there's a possibility she heard incorrectly?:thumbsup

I would phone them again... you paid for a service and now TSC is refusing to provide it unless you pony up more cash. I'm not sure if that is considered fraud or extortion or just plain theft... but it can't be legal.

This was our first time going to a shooting range so we are unaware of so called 'reasonable" prices. I believed that they will give us a limited amount of ammo and expect us to buy more ammo. On their web page they only state individual rates of $40 dollars per person so it wouldn't make much sense for it to cost 35 dollars more for a "group" rate.

We called in for a quote like the website says, and one of their staff (the store manager) told her its "75 dollars for the entire group". Never did he once say that it was 75 dollars per person. She EVEN repeated what he said "$75 for the entire group", right after and he replied with a assertive "yes". So BMWWW I'm sure that she did not hear incorrectly

Thanks for your concern but I believe we have our facts right.

It also doesn't make much sense for them to reply to our confirmation email (that was sent 3 days ,72hrs in advance) 24hrs before the event. Not allowing us to cancel with out paying for the deposit.

Also when we talked to the supervisor he tried to direct us onto their webpage for the proof of pricing of $75 dollars per person for groups, but then he himself was unable to tell us where this information was.... and it is clearly no where to be found on their website....

Those ammo prices are nuts. If you drive a bit you can shoot an assault rifle for about $50US/pp - this will include 2 boxes of ammo followed by a sore shoulder :)

IIRC the ammo here (http://www.niagaragunrange.com/) was about $9.25/box (50 rounds iirc).

Give them a call, nice clean friendly place. There's only one catch - no handguns. For that I've visited Florida where you can't shoot an AR-15, BUT you're welcome to fire a handgun (reverse of NY).

they said that because the transaction has not been posted yet. whenever they put the charge through, call your CC company again and tell them to file the claim for an unauthorized transaction (this transaction was NOT authorized since the reservation was originally made due to misleading information provided by the merchant). You should get a credit back once the claim is processed and when resolved in your favor any interest (if any at that point) shall be reversed.

Only thing is we do not have written documentation that it was indeed $75 for the entire group (neither do they of $75 per person), everything was agreed upon though the phone, and my girl friend signed a group booking form which does not state the price but states the following, "a non refundable deposit unless cancelled 72 hours prior to the event of $20 per person is necessary to confirm your booking."

i frequent target sports and i believe there has had to be some sort of miscommunication,i believe its $20 PER person not including ammo prices so thinking its $75 for a group of 12 is just not believable (I spend almost $200 worth of ammo in the spam of 3 hrs). Ive taken dozens of friends with me to target over the last year and everytime I went they've been nothing less of courteous and helpful. I even got my gun license there so something must have went wrong between booking or like i said miscommunicated. No offense but just because you had one bad experience with target it should not be labeled a scam as this is probably the best indoor gun range in ontario where even government agencies take their training at.

but sorry for your bad experience their maybe you could try calling darren again and see what he has to say

The way they decided to handle the situation sure made it seem like it was a scam. I most certainly will be calling Darren again, the staff that we talked to were quite rude and unhelpful.

Thanks for all the help guys, I appreciate it.

So I called back today and they decided to apologize for the misunderstanding and agreed to refund the full deposit.

I am glad everything worked out in the end.

Thanks for the help.
