Hi,
Any suggestions about where to buy a motor to replace the blown one in my car?

I am still sitting on a 05 m3 with a spun bearing... funds have been preventing a repair. I have finally got in touch with Jimmy about doing the work, but he did not have much to offer in terms of buying a motor. I have searched local scrap yards, did the auto-parts.com search, requested a quote... all that. It seems that all these motors are incredibly pricey... seems that anything below $2K for an engine with less than 100kms is pure fantasy... I did a search here, but got no where - I was actually kind of surprised, i am sure that a big list of sources would be helpful to the general membership. Anyhow, you guys have been awesome to a noob like me, helped me out greatly, and I thank you in advance for all your future help. Thanks

Peter.

If Jim has time he can find an engine for you. Did you ask if he could find one for you, or did he give you a suggestion where to source one? Try Standard auto wreckers (although I think it's possible that car-part.com might already include them in the search engine).

How about this one but it's 2006 GS with 57945 (KM or mile don't know, check with them) for $4900 salvage car. You can re-sell the part you don't need it or fix it for winter beater. I look like it have a LED tail light which cost a few hundred alone.

Another junkyard in TO (416-286-8686) sell an engine only but they want US greenback (not Canadian). http://www.standardautowreckers.com/partssearch.htm

a GS doesn't have a 2.3 I'm pretty sure
I think cheap 2.3s can be had if you get a mazda6 motor from the same year, then swap parts (like the oil pan) that are different... the 6 motor has higher compression too (same compression ratio as JDM 3)... but nobody has tried putting in a 6 motor out of cheapness

From the VIN JM1BK143461461038 (http://www.number9auto.net/asp/vin/info.asp?v=JM1BK143461461038) and submodel S/S Grand Touring/S Touring . It have 2.3L engine and I think the title is typo.

Not sure if this engine will fit. It is a JDM 2.0L replacement.

Not sure what the engine code is but maybe worth asking to see if it is a good replacement. You may be able to find a JDM high output replacement.

Since the Mazda 3 is known as Axela and Protege in other markets it may be worth doing some research to see if there are other direct fit alternatives.

I believe this one comes with an Auto Tranny for $1300... you may want to ask about their warranty though.

Um...no. That'd be an FS-DE if it's the Protege 2.0L, not a MZR 2.0L as was found in the 3.

The 3 replaced the Protege, parts are not compatible between the two.

Maybe this one:

JDM 2004-2006 MAZDA3 LF-DE ENGINE

$1,200.00

Displacement: 1994 cc
Power: 143 hp @ 5400 rpm
Torque: 132 lb-ft @ 4400 rpm

Just realized that that 's the 2.0.....

The sedan GS has the 2.0L, the hatch GS has the 2.3L.
