GI - weekly pick-up basketball game

I need to start getting back into shape.
Not looking to be beach body fit - I just don't want to be gasping for air when I try to run from my car to my house on a rainy day.

Wondering if anybody knows of - or is interested, in a walk-in game of basketball in the East Scarborough area.*

Not looking for any leagues as my schedule can't commit to anything more than once a week. And I can't play with these teeny-boppers that say "Yo-yo-yo", or "You know what I'm sayin" in every sentence.

So I'm putting this out there if there's any interest in a weekly TM3 basketball day.

I havent played in about 12 years, and prolly suck now, but I got a pair of running shoes (somewhere), and a basketball (probably next to my running shoes somewhere)

May I suggest night ball :) The weather cools down a bit so you don't get as drained. We would play generally from 9pm-11pm or 10pm-12pm.
Either way, I'm in. Just let me know when and where. Friday/ Saturday are always a plus....

Justin is right. We cant expect people to drive across town for a game of Bball.
I honesty don't feel like driving more than 30 mins each way just to get tired within 10 mins. of playing. LOL

that being said, maybe there should be 2 different meets/games set up...East and West. That way, we might actually be organized enough to play against each other for bragging rights...or an ice cap mocha...or something.

As for the day. I dunno. I didn't get that far. But so far looks like evenings are best.

I agree, Hoop Dome is great. But I think for financial sake, that's why we're looking to play outdoor as it's free. But I agree, I prefer indoor ball... rather then outdoor. I save the indoor ball for the regular season :)

for east side, if you guys don't mind the drive, you can always hit up to Angus Glen community center. They charge $45 an hour and if we get 10 people it'll be $9 per person for 2 hours. Its a little up north for most of you tho. But the place is really nice and clean.

Originally, the post was just to find a place for a walk-in basketball game in the East end that I can join in on whenever I feel the energy to play. Something totally non-committal. Personally, I know I can’t commit to a game every week. But it gives me something to look forward to when I am available.

But when I started the thread, I got replies from people that are interested in the same thing, and it just turned out we had enough interest to start our own weekly game. Unfortunately, trying to find a central location for both sides, is facking tough.

That being said, I think we should have 2 weekly games going on. West side and East side, and once a month (or every other month) have one good East vs. West game.

I’ll leave it with the west-enders to organize a weekly location in your end.
Saturday Nights at Scarborough Centennial Rec Ctr is still a go. EVERYONE is welcome to join in / bring friends, whatever.

Hitesh, Phil and I had a bit of a westside shoot around. If anyone, east or west is down for a game this saturday night find a spot and i'll be there.

I'm so down for pickup games in the East End. Some quick questions. Indoor or outdoor? Is it a regular once a week thing?
I did a once a week pickup game from Dec-July and is supposed to start up again in the fall if ppl are interested.
The only downside is that I'm supposed to be in Ottawa for work through the end of the year. :(

The first game took part in the east end on an outdoor court. I would think that would be our same spot to play again, it wasn't crowded at all and the lights were on until 10:30pm. As of now, I should be able to reach this saturdays game. For now, lets hold it at the same spot as last time...

We got enough regulars (10-15) and it turned out to be $140/person and it ran for 24 weeks or 25 weeks, can't remember..

$7.50 to get in if you're early, I mean early in the morning 8:30am that's for the whole day...99% Filipino plays there in the morning...lol
if you get there around 10am then he will charge you the regular rate $11.75 all day as well

Actually you would be surprised. So far the majority who have texted/ PM'd/ emailed me are more interested in the Sunday mornings. Alot of leagues that play on the weekend are ususally Saturday or Sunday mornings, so it's nothing new to them.

I take it you sleep in on the weekends :) aahh, I miss those days.

So I stopped by last night. They have a huge full court gym that can be converted into 2 smaller full courts. The issue there lies that there was about 15 people or so that showed up.... and talking to the frontdesk I found out that they are regulars. So with that said, Wednesday evenings may not be a good idea if alot of people want to roll in.

So my cousin brought me in to an open gym that runs Saturday AND Sunday mornings at Heartlake (can't remember if it's Secondary or COmmunity Centre), which is in Brampton. Saturdays run from 9:30am to 11:30 am, and Sundays are from 8:30am to 10:30am. It's the kind of gym where it's a huge full court, but then they convert it to 2 full court scrimages. I played for the first time this past weekend. There's about 25 guys that show up. It's not bad as it's only $5... and you get a mix of the young guys, and veteran Tito's... (hahah... I am not considered one of those veteran Tito's).

They ususally do one game is for those more competitve, and the other is for those just looking to condition. I'll tell ya, there are 3 Tito's there that are in their early 70's who are running circles around everyone. Damn, they are my motivation to get back into shape.

I usually play 4 games depends on how many people come....last week was pack but I still manage to play four games.

Seems like interest has died down over the past week.
I'm still down for whatever is happening on Sunday mornings. I'm surprised there's such a large turnout at both Hoopdome and Heartlake on Sunday morning. I suggest maybe more of a TM3er thing so those who aren't comfortable with their conditioning or playing with strangers at a high pace/level can come out and have a good time and get some good runs in. But I do understand that they are both public venues and have no problem playing whoever; it will remind me of the good old outdoor days of half court.
