So was heading to lunch today, as i started to drive off I noticed the car shifted hard between 1st and 2nd. No lights came on at this point. I accelerated a little more another hard shift (not as hard as the first one) then the AT light and the CEL came on...WTF. So I'm at the light waiting then I accelerate again and the shifting is smooth AT light is gone. But the CEL stays. I grabbed lunch headed back to work checked the Tranny oil all is well.
Going to parts source to pull the code from the CEL, anyone else have this problem?
BTW- I drive a 05 AT with 59,000 on it.

Steve, bring it to M&D Auto and have them scan it for you.
Both Dave and Moez have an extensive Mazda background.

Sorry to bring back a dead thread. But what was the cause of this? I'm having the same problem

Might need a reflash or it could be TPS problem or speed sensor

thinking reflash if isolated incident and problem went away only CEL remained

Mazda wants $120+hst for the diagnostic test alone... any alternatives to this?
UPDATE:
my brother in law (mechanic) told me to check my gas cap. Now; the CEL is gone.
I called Mazda again to ask about this, they confirmed that the AT light wouldn't be tripped by something like a loose gas cap. The two are likely separately caused (seems odd that the came on at the same time), also if there is a dying sensor or something wrong with the transmission the AT light wont necessarily STAY ON, It may come on intermittently until there is a catastrophic failure.

ive read some people unplug the battery wait 5 minutes and then hook it up again. CEL will go back on if there actually is a problem.

Good to know. I will keep an eye on it and update when I can. My brother in law has a code reader, I will try to scan it on the weekend. (hopefully there's a memory bank?)

Do you know how much the repair will cost?

Its funny cuz i literally just had this happen the other day, 04 @ 122kms
it was indeed p0715 for the CEL code
its pretty easy to change, actually about 1hr maybe?
you have to remove the battery, unscrew the 3 screws holding the plastic battery box in, pull that out, and then you can access the sensor above the tranny
you unplug it, its held in by one 8mm screw, swap it, and problem solved.
the part is "FN01-21-550" @ probart mazda here in london it was $69 after tax. Might be cheaper in toronto because probart doesnt have a good rep for service, but I'm in london right now.
"Input turbine speed sensor" or "Pulse generator"
Had the CEL go off and fixed everything within 3 hours, including a drive to the dealership to pick up the part. Thought it was a lot worse than what it was, and its been smooth since.

Well i went down to the dealership today, got me quoted and pretty much $61.65+labor which would be about $170ish to replace one lil sensor ! Instead of just paying that amount, i'll just do what applepeel did, buy the sensor and replace it myself. On a side note : SCARBORO MAZDA = NOT MOD FRIENDLY :(
