Don't hold your breath. According to a few of my sources inside RIM its the US that gets it first, so...we might be waiting a bit for it.
Yeah, so I have heard... doesn't hurt to be optimistic though!
The US will definitely get it first, it just undetermined how long we will have to wait... weeks or months.

i am going to wait a bit longer. there are some way better phones coming out then the slider. personally i dont like slider phones, just more things to break and i would break it fast cause i know that i would be sliding the thing all the time when im bored and the phone is out.
im waiting for the 9900 (magnum/pluto) to come out. my sources have told me that around sept is when all the new ones will be released. and thats good timing since my contract is up around that time haha

I will never buy a slider again. The last one I had started off tight, but soon became looser than a coked out hooker.

Stupidest idea for a phone ever... seriously.. a sliding phone? As if I'd need something that could break easier when dropped.

Slider idea is fine, just has to be done right. This is another Palm Pre-looking device. If it's anything like what I played with a few weeks ago (apparently it was a final revision 9800), i'm not super impressed. Oh, and OS6 isn't nearly as fluid as they'd like you to think.

I don't mind if thats the case. That way we will know of any bugs that are in the phone and from that we can decide if this phone is worth the purchase.
On another note, no SurePress technology....??? the storm 1 had a horrible touch screen with that god awful clicking sound... eck don't they ever learn?

BB = overly complicated?
The 9800 I was playing with didn't have a click-screen. I have a Storm2 and have since gotten used to clicky-screens... The S2 is worlds better than the S1, but I think the consumer market doesn't want them anymore :P

BB Iphone, whatever.. it's all just a copy of HTC!
HTC had touch screen phones way before Apple or RIM.
I really hope BB comes out with something good.. I just cant stand the iphone Hype

It is a shame to us Canadians that we dont have some of the good Android phones out including the Droids

^^^^ Telus seems to have an edge with HTC. I see them getting Droid2 and the like relatively soon.

Qualify this statement so that we can understand where you're coming from. To make a blank statement like that makes it hard for those on the fence about this phone to make a rational decision.

Just wait and see. The Palm Pre failed miserably due to this design, it had a high-return rate due to defects/failure of the slider. RIM's handset's are not of quality design as it is when compared to other manufacturers. I can only imagine how this phone will be.

so if the 9800 does hit canadian market on aug. 12 and then if gabby's sources are correct and in september 9900 gets released, then theoretically i should be within my 30 day period to return one and get the other.
that's of course if gabby's sources are true and rim doesn't repeat the same thing they did with the may 17 announces launch of 6.0....in which case i could end up being a few months overdue for the exchange.
regardless im way overdue for a new bb - my 9700 has taken a sever beating in the last few weeks :(

how can u say that rims handsets are not of quality design? they are built to last ... ive seen people drop their BB's so many times and they always hold up ... the only thing that was not working with blackberries were the trackballs because they got dirty..... and now those have been replaced .... i dont get how they are not of qaulity design? .... you drop a iphone .. or even put it down a little harder then normal .. and the screen cracks or gets damaged or gets scratched .... :S

Well, I worked in Wireless for 2 years up until May. BlackBerry's were the most DOA devices in our inventory. iPhones were the least DOA.
BlackBerry's are very inconsistent in quality, and the quality depends greatly on the place of manufacture. RIM manufactures in 3 different countries, those being Canada, Hungary and Mexico. The quality degrades as you go down that list.
To put it in perspective, I ordered a BlackBerry 9700 in November of 2009 from Rogers. It took 3 BRAND NEW units for me to get a decent one and now I am on my 6th unit, and I haven't used it much since I got the iPhone 4 but my point is, having owned 6 smartphones in a year and half, RIM may spend a lot of money on R&D, but their QC is horrible. When I had my Bold 9000, I had it swapped 3 times, while my Curve 8900 was swapped 2 times. My iPhones? 3G (Once, water damaged), 3GS (Never) and 4 (Not yet).

o ok so your saying that the problems were with the software and the hardware ( build quality ) .... i have had issues with tthe software / OS ... but never with the hardware or build quality .. and now with OS 6 ... it looks like they fixed alot of the major problems with software ..
i say give it a chance ... i know il be staying with RIM for life!

I mean I am very open-minded with gadgets and I don't like to be a fan-boy. I'll give them a chance, but Its just the experience that I've had that's left a bitter taste of BlackBerry for me.

so glad my bb has a proper name..the TOUR lol
gotta love the tour...i kind of wish the torch had a horizontal slide out keyboard, but we'll have to see how this one works out. I've noticed the only problem i've ever had with my bb was my trackball..which has been replaced by the pad on the newer models

Why on god's good earth would you want to stay with CDMA. And they won't get it, there is no future for CDMA anymore.

Well CDMA is still around and kicking, but we were told when HSPA+ launched that they don't plan on introducing new CDMA devices if there are HSPA+ equivalents available. The 9650's equivalent would be the 9700.
EDIT: The 9800 is not bad from experience, but I just can't see the BB Platform becoming what Android OS and iOS have become. Too many resources are put into security for the phone to have left for apps, and it is very hard to develop for the BB platform unfortunately. I hope this new OS really brings RIM back up with the iOS4 and Android 2.2.

You can't type with one hand with a horizontal keyboard

Looks like a version of Palm Pre to me. Was really expecting RIM to do a slate design like all the other highend phones.

verrry true lol didnt think of that
While eating out at a restaurant yesterday, I saw someone with a 9800 and when I asked about it all I could get was "no comment, or i'll get fired"
lol.. sorry guys, i tried.

I've tried a few of them already (friends/acquaintances @ RIM). The OS is going in the right direction (Don't expect the same App support as Android or iOS though), the slider concept I don't feel it picking up with the BlackBerry crowd.

i've always favoured slider form factors so it will be interesting to see how it feels to use this one. though, i think you're right. the slider form factor doesn't feel like it would be well accepted in the BB crowd.
can you give me your friend's names? ... so i can get them fired? haha. :)

Well, the phone is technically announced and is official, so there is no NDA to break as far as I know lol.
I had my first look at it back in May I think...

Announced and official, yeah. but i wanted to know the release date for canada. and since it's still not officially available, they aren't allowed to talk about it and let other people handle the phone.
at least that's what the person told me

i played around with this phone last night. buddy works for rim. hes had it for a while now but since its been released he can show it to ppl. he says its one of the best phones hes used. i liked it. it was fast even though he said it was slow due to all the apps he has on it for testing. all in all, the OS is awesome. but the phone itself i still dont like the slidder idea.
and they cant get fired since the phone isnt a secret no more. it has been release to the public
