Hey all,

I've experienced this twice now. I go fill up my tank and then off to the cottage. After about 15 minutes of 100-120km/h driving, I throw a CEL. The first time I thought I didnt tighten the gas cap enough, so I tightened it. After 24 hours and some short commutes, the CEL went off. This time I fill up, intentionally pay extra care to tightening the gas cap, drive and boom, another CEL.

Anyone have issues with a faulty gas cap? Anyone around that can pull the code for me?

Usually when I get gas I have a 1/4 tank. Well bone dry and shell having a airmiles promo I filled up with regular nitrogen formula. Ten minutes down the road a CEL goes off. Car runs fine so week later or so I go to my shop and they pull the code. Misfire cyl 1&4? So tell them when it happened and they said well seems your car does not like Shell! Happens again bring it in the same day.
Since then no shell and no problems.

No charge for the scan either. If you find a good shop and give them your on going business and build a relationship then you dont get nickled and dimed to death.

Im going to take a guess of what code its going to be. It will possibly be code P2187 - System too lean at idle speed (Bank 1). I can pull out the code for you but I am in brampton. If it is, the purge solenoid valve needs to be replaced. and possibly the 1st o2 sensor if youve been driving with that CEL for a long time.

Thanks guys, funny thing is that both times, I've filled up at a shell. Would pulling a code be covered by the mazda warranty? I got the 7 year extended warranty and everything. Seems like if the CEL goes on, they should diagnose for free.

the extended warranty only covers diagnosing for a covered warranty repair, if the repair is not under warranty then you have to pay the diagnosis.

Interesting...

So after letting her sit for a bit and a couple small trips to daycare etc... The CEL is gone. This troubles me.
