View Full Version : New Mazda 3 rust protection/ tail pipe
Hi there, I just recently purchase a 2010 Mazda GX and want to know what type of undercoating (rust protection) I should go with. I was reluctant to take the dealers due to over price. Can anyone recommend places that will do an excellent job.
Also does any know were I can get a tail tip for my exhast, the type that look like the other Mazda3 sport packages.
Thanks

Krown or Rust Check.
Make sure it's an oil based product.
Anything that hardens will eventually crack and let moisture/salt in.

I got the dealer rustproofing, and while I'm not happy about the dripping/smell etc, I believe it comes down to warranty more than anything. The product my dealer installed was through syn-tech and is lifetime warrantied for $799 (personal contact with someone @ the dealership tells me syn-tech is awesome about warranty claims), a little pricey I think, but it comes down to warranty for me.

"Sym-Tech" actually. What package did you get? What coverage does it include?

Sorry, my bad!, a lot of my posts end up sounding like I'm forest gump as I can't edit them. I got the vehicle protection package with rustproofing, undercoating, paint protection, fabric protection, surface rust protection, and optional rip, tear, and burn coverage for fabric (I have a 6 year old, nuff said!) Lifetime everything and fully transferrable if I sell the vehicle. Well worth it IMOA.

Yeah, good investment, especially if you're planning on keeping the car for a long time.

If the product was any good there should be no warranty claims-issues so to say they are "awesome" about claims would worry me and I would look else where. $800 WOW

I believe the 800 included the undercoating as well (which is kinda like a teflon looking stuff), and the claims are because they warranty a TON of stuff if you get the extras like stain, rip, tear and burn on fabrics, and surface rust/paint protection. I got the whole package because A: I have a 6 year old (nuff said for fabrics!!) B: I plan on keeping the car for as long as possible
All in all I think it will pay off in the end (hope to keep the dreaded 3 "rot" away for as long as possible!)

Krown has to be done every year to be warranteed, My $800 was one time Lifetime waranteed, doesn't seem so expensive to me if you do the math

I just bought a 2010 GT Sedan, I'm debating between Krown and the dealer rustcoating as well.
The dealer is offering it to me for $600 (just the rustcoating - not the paint sealant or fabric protection). I read the posts below, but still hoping you guys could weigh in on:
1. Rustcoating - lifetime warranty by dealership, whereas Krown needs to be done annually. The dealer tells me the stuff they use for the door panels, engine bay, etc. is like a "wax" rather than an oil.
My car is white, so I am concnerned about the oil turning brown and ugly, like it did with my Protege
2. Fabric protection - Should I be concerned about the leather? I'm the only one in the car most of the time, maybe someone in the passenger
Any suggestions on a good quality cleaner or protector for leather interior/seats? Meguiares?
3. Paint sealant - Dealer is offering for $100
Is this bogus? I mean, I take very good care of the ride, use the Mr. Clean AutoDry so I don't have to touch the surface of the paint. I never wash it in extreme sunlight, etc.
Sorry for the hijack :P

I have a 7 month old, and I too plan to keep my 2010 Sport GX (celestial blue!) until it dies. I'm going with Krown for rust proofing and did everything else myself, which included claying and waxing and interior protection with a few cans of 3M Scotchguard. Toss in some good rubber mats, and Bob's your uncle. You will find enough rustproofing threads here and on the Net about avoiding the dealer added products (pricey and not always the best). I've had many cars over the years, and never burned or ripped fabrics. Some prefer/need peace of mind protection, while others do not or just do it themselves. Personally, I wouldn't be worried about rust, but instead the coverage having all sorts of loopholes to avoid fixing the issues.

1) Krown. Avoid dealer products
2) & 3) Go and read the interior and exterior section of the forum for recommended products
4) Stop hi-jacking threads! *slap*
