Working in healthcare, i'm constantly washing my hands every 3mins, but then my watch starts to stink.

I bought one with a rubber strap but it's still tough to clean.

How do you guys get all that smelly gunk/dead skin from all the little crevices in the bottom of your watches?

(Or am i the only one that has stinky wrists :blush)

Soak the watch in lemon juice

Soak it in warm water and a few drops of dish soap. I let mine sit for 30 mins or so. Then give the band and the back of the case a light scrubbing with a toothbrush (ideally you would use a different one for your watch and teeth. Although you could use your wife's/gf's/brother/sisters. etc). Rinse with warm water and dry. It should be good for a while.

LOL

I've done the toothbrush thing, but there's always tiny gaps can't get into.
Never thought of lemon juice or vinegar... I think i'll start off with a soap/water soak.
I was thinking of using my wife's "Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner"

I wouldn't use that thing. You won't know how the vibrations affect the mechanism in the watch. Honestly if you soak it with dish soap most of the gunk loosens up, floats away, and the remainder is easily removed. My band isn't super fine or super chunky. I do this and it gets all the nastiness out of my band.

If you can take off the straps and then put them in the jewlery cleaner thing that will work. Rightfully you should take off the band anytime you are going to give it a good cleaning. Thats what i would do, soaking the band in HOT water with some dish soap will help loosen up the crap.... OR take off the band and try throwing it in the untensil basket in the dishwasher.

soak the band in hydrogen peroxide... watch it bubble and kill all the bacteria (the actual source of the odor).

Im in health care too and I totally know what you mean.
I started hanging it off my ID tag, then it got heavy... Watch in the pocket is never around when you need it quick enough.
So I landed with a full metal watch, doesn't absorb odor, with a quick release so during codes you can get it outta the way quick, and or slide it up your wrist as you wash you hands .... oh so very many times.
When you need to clean it, just drop the whole thing is hydrogen peroxide and or a good wipe with virox...

For a while i had a Timex Ironman with a fabric/velco strap.. i just straped it up higher and it worked okay, but wasn't as comfortable. I also a one point tied in my watch to my scrubs.. that worked okay.. but your always looking at your waist.

I'm in Healthcare as well, and for sure...I ALWAYS use a full metal watch. Just wear it in the shower with you lol...that will clean it up nicely.

Lose the watch and use the clock on another device as others have said. How about the one on the pager?

I also have a steel watch. Get a steel watch that is waterproof like my tag heuer then shower and wash it in the shower once in a while. Works for me.

MSRA and C-dif for the win !!! I have a metal watch which I should wear. The people from Infection Control says we shouldn't wear any watches, rings and such anyways.

Yeah that's true. When I used to work in the Healthcare Sector, I never used to wear my watch while on the job. I used my pager and my blackberry for the duration of my shift to keep track of time. I always wiped down them down and adjusted the time to display the hospitals time before my shifts. There's just something about coming close to germs like C.Diff, MRSA, or VRE, that I just didn't want to take a chance and get it on my jewelery.

lose the watch! I,ve had stinky watches..

Kinda smells like..... Lol nm i'll keep this thread clean haha...

Just use your cell phone, if you really want to keep wearing it, then yeah do what most people have said remove the straps and use lemon juice or vinegar..

i wouldnt wear a watch in a healthcare setting though. When i worked at st.mics i would never wear my watch, i always used the pager.
