Hey guys I am going to have my own single car garage soon (which isn't the greatest for working in but better than nothing) and as I consider the number of things I want to do to it to make it more workshop friendly garage flooring is high on my list.

For those of you with your own garage what have you done?
-Paint?
-Tile?
-Other?

I'm looking for something cost effective and stain resistant.

Any other suggestions are appreciated in regards to the garage, I'll be doing a build on stance :)

Ive been thinking of these:

or something like this

Why must I mod everything? :complain

They both have advantages. The paint will cover which ever dimensions your garage is easily, and I would assume cheaper. The paint however wont be resistant to stains, and I dont know how chip or flake resistant that stuff is. The tiles however can be swapped out if certain ones get damaged or stained badly.
I have also seen at costco, something similar to the tiles in a ruberized roll. I cant recall the cost, but that might be another alternative to think about.

Paint isnt great it will chip and peel and also wont give the concrete and air to breathe meaning the subfloor might crack.
I would go with rubberized tile, easier to work with seeing as if you drop a hammer it wont break like a tile.

Might be a little more expensive but maintenance is minimal and you wont have to worry about cracking, chipping or peeling

What's wrong with bare concrete? NOTHING.

The epoxy is very durable. More importantly it's slip resistant.
BUT- if the concrete floor has ANY contaminrnts on there now - this stuff won't hold properly.

Tiles are $$$$$$ but damn sexy. I don't care how cliche - checkered flag garage flooring is fawking badass!

Concrete absorbs oil and moisture.
Epoxy and tiles can be replaced or cleaned easier

Few spills and it starts to look pretty bad.

The more I think about the work involed with painting (can't drive on it for 48 hours etc) I might look into tiling.

You still can't drive on tile right away after installing. Maybe two days for installing and drying then more for grout.

Some you have to use adhesive some just hammer together I think.

Look into a rubberized tile, i believe its just epoxy set and forget.
much better than a house tile, softer and slip resistant.

Epoxy is DEFINITELY not slip resistant. In fact, its slip-promoting!.. You'll need to add abrasive non-slip stuff if you want a non-slip surface.

Epoxy is definitely a luxury, and go-to product--but you definitely want to invest a bit more (especially if its only a small single-car garage, since it won't really break the bank for such a small surface area).

I'll be picking up some commercial "Wolverine" epoxy. Google/search them up on garagejournal.com--- really wicked stuff, and about $500 for a large 2-car garage.

Epoxy FTW!!, done a few over the years they still look new, and easy to clean. FYI- your garage floor doesn't have a "subfloor" as stated below, theres no moisture/cracking problems created by sealing you concrete floor LOL (I've been a contractor for 15 years).

I painted my garage floor, and just recently purchase the rubber tiles.

The only thing I would suggest if your deicide to paint your garage floor, is allow it to properly dry. If not, once you park your car in the garage and pull out..... you'll notice the tread marks.

Unless you like the look of your tread marks? :chuckle

What products/product did you use?

Our garages will be similar in size :)

When my dad did his garage, he did the acid etch then epoxy. It was either an unclean floor after the etch or something but most of the epoxy peeled and flaked off after the first winter with salt.

Epoxy is definitely 90% prep, and 10% application-- as with all good things.

A quality, and TRUE, 2 part-system is also highly recommended if you're looking for longevity. I'll be going with Wolverine in the next month or so, and I'll post pictures when I'm done with it. This shiaaat is nearly 2cm's thick when its all said and done.
