So I bought the upgrade for Windows 7 and installed it on my Asus F8V laptop tonight.
Everything installed fine, except it doesn't see my DVD drive at all.
I googled it and saw it's a common issue, but have tried many ways people listed with no luck...
I think my issue maybe need a new bios? But I can't even find one that for sure works and is updated and I'm afraid of flashing, never done it....
Any ideas?

do you see it in device manager? if you do, remove it and let it detect it again.
I also see this solution on a few posts http://forums.techarena.in/operating-systems/1158945.htm , however I didn't see anyone confirming that it actually works. also say this in a microsoft page.

Does the DVD work? Is it enabled in BIOS? Can you get the machine to boot from the DVD (should be able to boot from the Windows 7 install disc).
You can also check the DVD drive manufacturer's site for the driver. Pop the drive out and check the labels for the drive manufacturer and model.

A dvd drive uses a generic driver. Very weird! Should ave gotten Linux

It's weird, Windows was installed through a DVD but after the install the DVD drive is like dead. You can't even open it manually so I can't even pop the disc back out. When I turn on the computer the DVD drive just spins.
Bios boot sequence has been played around with no success. The BIOS does not see a DVD Drive at all.

there's a hole on the dvd drive where you can use a paperclip to pop it open. take the disc out. you can also try removing the dvd drive, boot up the computer, shutdown and put it back after.

It's a legit copy. I purchased the upgrade online, downloaded the iso file and burned it to a DVD.

I have every drive installed now, at first I was missing about 5. But now it's all good.
I can't boot from disc so how can I re-install?

Sounds like it just died? If it doesn't detect in the BIOS then you have a hardware problem
You can re-install using a USB key. MS has a tool to create a USB key.
The issue may or may not be related to the burn of the DVD or the DVD drive itself. The easiest(?) way to get around this is to make a bootable USB drive and install windows that way. I have done this numerous times in the past and it has worked quite well. You'll need a USB drive that's about 4GB or bigger. PNY or OCZ work well, but Kingston is hit or miss.
Step 1:
http://www.intowindows.com/bootable-usb/
Step 2:
Copy the contents of the ISO directly to the newly formatted/bootable USB drive. Best way to do this is to use 7zip (http://www.7-zip.org/) or Winzip or WinRAR and open the ISO as an archive. Drag the files from the 7zip window directly to the USB drive. If you extract the files to the hard drive and then copy them, you may run into issues.
Step 3:
Boot from the USB drive.
PS:
You can upgrade your BIOS by going here: http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us and entering the model at the top left. Installation instructions for the BIOS upgrade are here: http://support.asus.com/technicaldocuments/technicaldocuments.aspx?root=198&SLanguage=en-us
The latest BIOS for the base F8V is 208. If you're still at 205, I recommend that you upgrade.

If the BIOS can't see the drive and you can't even attempt to boot from it, I'd say the drive is pooched. The fact that it spins just means it's getting power and the power-up sequence works.
Did you try R&Ring the drive? It's possible that it's not seated into the connector properly. Unlikely, but possible

True. Especially with Windows 7. Unless there is something unique about it......
Hmmm.... what about power management? Maybe it is stuck in sleep mode? Have you pulled all power on the machine? Battery? CMOS battery? And then let is sit for a hour or so just to be paraniod?

I find it hard to believe that the drive is dead. Cause I googled it and it's a common problem for Windows 7, just that everyone has their own way in fixing.
I think I'll look into the Bios first and then re-install from a USB if I really have to.

Best Advice ever lol.
I had no idea you could open a dvd drive with a paperclip. Anyways So I opened, took the disc out started the computer.
No notifications about driver install, go to My Computer and the drive is there ready to go. Boggles my mind but at least everything works now =)
