View Full Version : Stained front rotor area after applying Meguiars Hot Rims?
Sooooo it's been a couple weeks now and I was hoping it went away. But I noticed after using Meguairs Hot Rims on my wheels and rotors, the part where the axel touches the rotor on the fronts are stained a yellow almost rust kind of look? Anyone know how to get rid of this?
My back are fine, as the part I'm talking about is actually a black metal thing which I guess absorbs it somehow?
Its not on the actual rotor, but rather on the outside bottom part of the rotor where it touches the axel thingy if that makes sense lol.
Will upload pics tomorrow if it helps
thanks

All of a sudden, I cannot picture which part you are talking about. LOL!

Could it just be annoying brake dust? Anyway to get rid of it from staining it so badly? It literally looks like my rotors are super old despite just installing them under a month or so ago

that part will get stained/rusted on a regular basis but because it's only on your front rotors makes it an odd situation.

^+1 that area is always rusted.
And on another note, you really should not be touching your rotors with cleaning products like that....

If it really bothers you a lot, you can always grind them down and paint them black. Also, how much are you spraying and are you washing the entire wheel off? The reason I ask is because if you spray it with the cleaner, you should be rinsing the entire wheel to remove any chemicals around.
First time i sprayed it, i used waaaaaaay too much lol (like 1/3 of the bottle). Didnt notice it till after since I was busy trying to scrub around the rims. My back ones, that part is all black for some reason, so I guess it doesnt show up? I have enkei EKM3's so its kind of hard to get to the actual caliper/rotor without having to manuvure around the rim.

I painted mine black and I use Hot Rims and haven't had this problem at all.
So I would paint them black.

Dave, yours didn't come painted black? Mine did, and its a GT as well.
The black part is physically part of the rotor right? I just got my fronts replaced with OEMS so wondering whether my mechanic just forgot to put that piece back on or what not...

I do believe so but I'm no expert. That part is often referred to as the "hat".

I thought Meguiars Hot Rims was safe to use? That's what I've been using and I've got thin spoke rims and I can't help but to get some on the rotors. Spraying it onto a cloth and wiping the rims just doesn't give that fizzing sound like it's really cutting the grime.

Accidentally getting a little bit on the rotors is fine but if you're purposely trying to clean them with that stuff it's not really safe.... especially if there's any wax in the product... pretty sure he/she should be using a product specifically for cleaning brakes...
