I have been chatting with a buyer who is really interested in buying my Skyline for about a week now. Today I received email saying that he is out in a sea working as a naval engineer. He told me he will send money through PayPal and will get someone to pick it up.. Here is where I got little suspecious..
Here is his email:
"Thanks for mail i offered that price because i love the car and its my dad dream car and i dont want loose it so i want to be the highest bidder, i am buying the car as a birthday gift for dad and i am at sea at the moment as i am a marine engineer and due to the nature of my work, phone calls making and visiting of website are restricted but i squeezed out time to check this advert and send you an email regarding it. I really want the car to be a surprise for dad so i wont let him know anything about the car until it gets delivered to him , i am sure he will be more than happy with the car.I will be paying with paypal because i dont have access to my bank account online as i dont have internet banking, but i can pay from my paypal account, as i have my bank a/c attached to it, i will need you to give me your paypal email address so i can make the payments asap for the car and pls if you dont have paypal account yet, it is very easy to set up, go to www.paypal.com.au and get it set up , after you have set it up i will only need the e-mail address you use for registration with paypal so as to put the money through.I have a pick up agent that will come and pick the car up after i have made the payments.
Cheers...."
I know PayPal is secure and stuff and whats with Australian PayPal? but what do you think?
Thanks for your help

Tell them that you want a certified cheque from the person picking it up. Otherwise no deal. Sounds like a scam.

Also that you will have to wait to cash the cheque before they can take the care out of your possession and sign it over. :)

Stay away from this deal. Ihad a similar issue when i was selling my turbo Civic. Guy wanted to pay me more than asking price. He was willing to pay by the same means and get someone to pick it up for him.

Oh and make sure if it is a certified cheque that it isn't from The Bank of *****ia.

Can anyone confirm that paypal.com.au is a legit paypal site, or a phishing site?
I've never heard of anything after www.paypal.com

It's a scam for sure. Two things that stick out for me are his story about his dad and it being a surprise (it's a technique to blind your common sense, "What a nice guy, I can definitely trust him!" and secondly, when a buyer is mentioning his preferred method of payment to you and is promoting you to sign up for something to complete the transaction its definitely scam.
Bail out now while you can.

Coming from a guy who is, as I type, working at a bank, certified cheques/bank drafts/money orders mean nothing anymore. They can just as easily fake these instruments.
Anyways, even with PayPal, they can scam. They can claim that they did not receive a product for the payment. Once they do this, PayPal will check to see if you have funds in your account. If you do, then they will take them and put them back into his account.

cash, certified cheque or money order (you can tell them that they get a money order at any Canada Post outlet)
paypal.com.au is the australian domain for paypal (you can go to paypal.com, scroll down and find country-specific paypal links)....however, your paypal.com account should work with any paypal.com site.
i bet if you look at the email, the "paypal.com.au" link is hotlinked to some other site where they'll steal your info for other gains.
TOTAL SCAM!
Typpe the email into google.

Just in case if someone is interested, this is what i told him:
"Only cash or certified cheque IN person. So get your "agent" with money and will meet up. No PayPal BS! "

I got scammed years ago for a laptop. I received payment through paypal and it said transaction completed. I then went to the post office to ship it out (cost $100). I get home and see a minus value in paypal. FML.
Lesson learned, I will never again ship something anywhere. Local sales only to be safe.
