My car has been stalling everytime I put the clutch in. Starts up right away but will die again at the next light. The code it threw was P2507 "PCM B+ voltage low". My mechanic went through the harness and connectors and all looks good. He used the Mazda diagnostic sheet. Everything is pointing to a bad PCM. Problem is, Mazda wants $1800 for a new one. I found a couple used ones but they're slightly different part numbers. Is there any way I can use a PCM that has a different number as long as it's for a manual 2.0L?

BTW, I need part number LFYX-18-881B if anyone has a line on one! :)

Yes you need in exact the same part number. Even more, emission standard, auto or manual gearbox, and country for which the PCM was flashed.
I suppose you had seen this site , if not, look the engine computers.
www.car-part.com (http://www.car-part.com).

And you need in dealer in any way to flash the PCM to fit to the instrument cluster.
There are a security ruses.

Oh and are you saying I can't just buy a PCM and plug it in? I need to have a dealer flash it first?

the ECU has been superseded to LFYX-18-881F
you will need to have the dealer install it as they have to pull "as-built" data off of the original ECU and transfer it to the replacement... if they can't do that, then they will need to enter the codes in manually.... I am not even sure if you can do it with a junk yard ECU.... in any case, you will need to get a matching ECU from the junk yard... anything with a greater suffix will be newer than what you have and will be better

a brand new ECU will come blank and will need to be programmed

TheMAN knows this stuff even more specifically than me, but yes, as a minimum, dealer have to copy “personal data” from old PCM to the new. There are immobilizer settings, without them you couldn’t start the car.
