Im going to prep the car for winter at the end of October or beginning of November.
Im going to need a good wax, sealant and polish, and maybe a detailers spray for clay bar. Anyone have any suggestions as to what products would be the best?
Thanks

Products opinion is like underpants. Most people have one.
Klasse was suggested to me a lot. But in general I just buy the mothers stuff from can tire since it's no hassle of ordering online. However, Klasse being an all in one synth wax is a bit o fa time saver over polish, wax and seal.

I'm currently developing a Winter Prep Package which will likely contain the following items:
1pc of Yellow Clay (2.67oz)
8oz of Optimum No Rinse - To Dilute your own Clay Lube and act as a rinseless wash
4oz of Collinite 845 Insulator Wax
8oz of Optimum Poli-Seal (All-In-One)
1 x 4" Blue Polishing Pad - For Use with Poli-Seal
1 x Zymol Wax Applicator - For Use with Collinite 845
Still working on the price but that will give you a rough idea of what it includes. There will also be a list of substitutions/addons that will be available.
For instance, some people may want to substitute Optimum Poli-Seal for Klasse All In One, that will be an option and such. I hope to have the pricing and package options sometime this weekend.

Rust proofing would be a good idea!

Rust proofing would be a good idea!
I'm not a big fan of Rust proofing. Although it works well but at the cost of drippy oil or sticky wax in the doors and engine bay. Also the ladies don't like it cuz sometimes it leaks from the door on to the lower sill and it dirties the pant leg. Very difficult to wash off. Not to mention it makes a mess as it attracts dirt everywhere.
I've been taking my car to the coin wash every weekend and spend about $4 worth everytime to wash off all the salt and grime from all the nooks and crannies. I've been doing this for the last 4 yrs and have had no rust issues. I know as I crawl under the car every 5K kms to do an oil change. Engine bay is nice and clean and never even had to have a shampoo done.
I spend most of the spray time under the car and lower parts of the body where typical touchless car wash never gets to. Inner wheel wells, Suspension components, behind the front and rear bumpers. lower door sills etc.... Wherever you can think of that salt water can get to in the winter.
$4/week for 25 weeks = $100 + about 5 mins of your time.

I have collinite 845 and klasse.. goood shit..
I had rustproofing done in my accord couple years ago, i hated it to much. Everytime you open your hood your hands would just be covered in thick oily crap. And the dirt it attracts is amazing. What i did for my mazda was i bought a bottle of Krown's rustproofing oil, the stuff in the aerosol, went under the car and sprayed all the parts that seemed to be rusting . That way it stops the rusting process from continuing...

what about the brush, scrapper etc to remove snow from the car?
is there any variety which will help to remove snow from the car, windshield, but also wont scratch the surfaces?
My 1st car, so still learning :loco
Wow! some folks would rather have rust than put up with a bit of extra cleaning because of rustproofing. Krown definitely works, 2 years ago I sold a 1993 323, All origional including paint with absolutely no rust. I bought it used from a friend who had from new. I had it for 6 years. It was Krowned every year of it's life. I just saw it yesterday for the first time since I sold it and it still looks new.
Pat.
My Winter plan is:
-Full Interior and Carpet cleaning, and scotch guarding
-Clay bar and Wax
-Rust Proofing
-Rain-x on my Windows
-Rain-x Anti-fog on the inside
-Rain-x Windshield washer with de-icer
-Put in Weather Tech Mats
-New Wiperblades

My personal Winter kit consists of (this is ontop of my regular car kit)
- Winter brush with Scraper (good one with adjustable handle and brush angle)
- Lock De-icer
- Small scraper
- Small shovel with telescopic handle
- Big Rubber gloves ( I use fabric gloves in the winter, rubber gloves i use only to clear the snow and ice)
- Small Bag(s) of salt/sand (kept is a seal-able container so it doesn't spill and stain)
- Thick cardboard strips (sounds weird, but they have helped with getting grip in weird places and deep snow)
- Spray bottle with Rain-X de-icer windshield washer fluid (good for the cleaning other windows, and opening the Gastank door if it freezes shut)
The one thing i'm debating is getting a Squeegee and sponge to clean my windows when i'm not at home, and i don't always like using those dirty gas station ones.

-Rain-x on my Windows
.
Do you use the regular washer fluid in a spray bottle or is there a different Rain-x product for this?

Where can i get a good "Winter brush with Scraper "? will it be Crappy tire or somewhere else for a better one? ARe there different kinds of brushes..like soft etc?
Whats is a "Lock De-icer"? is it for door locks?
how is the "Small scraper" different from the one which comes with the brush?

It comes in a small Yellow bottle, if you rub it onto your windshield it helps the water bead off similar to how water beads off a waxed car. The de-icer in the spray bottle will help me get rid of stubborn ice

-I got mine on sale at CT, the head pivots and has the scraper
-Just in case i need to de-ice the lock for what ever reason, i know i have the keyless entry but i want to cover all scenarios
- I prefer the small scraper for smaller area where i can have a little better control of it, like if i need to get ice off my lights, or the small window behinds the rear doors,

+1 to this post. Keep it going. This will be my first winter driving. I'm getting my car Krowed today. I know it might get a touch messy. As i'm already cleaning it avidly i hope it won't get too bad.
Also good to know about the Rain-X products. My car is three weeks old and I haven't used anything special on the windows yet.

Another product thats similar to Rain-X treatment (Not the windshield washer fluid). Is Aquapel, same sort of thing however its a one time use only product and I like it personally however they're both great products.
But yeah as for Paint protection for our Canadian Winters, Collinite 845 Insulator Wax, Collinite 476s Paste Wax, Klasse Sealant Glaze (multiple layers) are among 3 of the most durable products on the market.

Since I assume durability is the same, how do 845 and 476 compare in terms of looks?

You guys are silly.
CAA and save all that space for useful stuff. ;)
Kidding.
Should have the following in an emergency kit:
- booster cables
- thick blanket
- flares
- winter mats work great as traction mats
- food/water
- basic tool set and multitool
No point in rainx/aquapel'ing your windshield. Its not going to make snow/ice not stick.
And to anyone who doesn't stare at your paint with a microscope, every wax/sealant will look just the same. Go with the most durable.
I've been using 845 for 3 years, couldn't be happier. Will last until Feb/March, and no, I couldn't be bothered to re-apply in the tail of winter either.

I sell it and it can be picked up at Nextmod, The Uptown Dog (Main St./Hwy7) and I'm around Yonge/College, Ajax and Markham sometimes. Best to call either location prior to going over to confirm availability.

Would you recommend me clay and wax before winter even though the car is a month old from the dealer which did a detail before handing it over to me? If I was to buy both I was thinking the Meguiars Kit and most likely a Meguiars Gold Class liquid wax. Any help would be great!

If the paint feels rough after washing it then yes clay it..but if it feels smoth yu don't have to clay it. I usely clay mine when ever the paint feels rough after washing..which is usaly after winter.
Instead of gettting Glod class wax get megiars NXT 2.0 way better and eaiser to remove

Yeah, the paint feels smooth. Would you say just give it a coat of wax for the winter and then clay in the spring?

Collinite double coat is an awesome wax. It's actually formulated to be detergent proof. For those of you that run your car through automatic car washes in the winter this product is great. It resists breaking down from regular exposure to the strong detergents at these washes. Regular waxes will break down quicker with these washes. I've ordered mine through eshine.ca.

If I was applying and buffing off by hand would you recommend the collinite double coat or the insulator wax? Thanks for the help guys and sorry for so many questions!

I use the double coat strictly because of the anti detergent qualities. It goes on like butter. Once it gets hazy it wipes off easily by hand. You can do some research about it on sites like autopia.

yes

Try walmart...maybe even napa

the NXT 2.0 is a good sealent and easy to put on and remove..you can buy it at canadian tire or walmart and i think napa
Just finished cleaning the inside carpet of my car.
Took out both front seats
Vacuumed
Took a small nylon brush from dollarama and brushed the carpet (it's soft enough not to pull the fabric, and strong enough to brush out the dirt
vacuumed again
Took out the center console (full of cigarette ash and coffee spills, from previous owner)
Took out my shifter and hand break washed those out properly
Used Shout all over the carpet, then used a clean cloth and a bucket (did it a few times)
Sprayed Scotch Guard, 2 coats on the carpet
Gonna get some weathertech floor mats soon

I didn't realize the NXT was a wax and, as well, a sealant. That's what I've been using :D

I sell the Paste Version for $25.00 however I'm not exactly Over the Counter... however I try to be flexible with my pick up times and locations. Its also in stock "The Uptown Dog" (Main St. and Hwy 7)

Yeap, NXT 2.0 Tech Wax is a Sythenthic Wax (aka: sealant)
I also have Collinite 476s (Double Coat Wax) In stock.

I'll be driving to Brantford, Ontario (passing through Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton) on Saturday Morning if anyone wants to grab a few items from me. (See Signature for items available). If one has time or its not freezing cold (around 0 degrees), I'll break out a wash bucket and Optimum No Rinse and do a rinseless wash. I only managed to do it twice last winter.
If anyone is in the Ajax (Pickering Beach Road Area) or Whitby near 700 Victoria St. W. and wants to split a Glide Seasons Pass For this winter feel free to email or pm me. Looking for 4-6 people to split it with.
Forgot to add this but I would get a can of Krown Rust proofing ( the aerosol stuff), and spray it on the metal lining that runs below the car (where the lift points are for the jack). Not sure if you cann picture it or not. Anyway, that metal isnt coated in any way, its just painted so it tends to rust especially if you have hit it before on a curb or a large bump. Anyway just spray that on both sides will keep it from rusting.
