I just picked up a 2007 Sport GT last night and there's a buzzing sound coming from behind the centre console. I didn't hear it on the test drive as the windows were open but when you're sitting at idle, you can definitely hear it. I did a search on here and didn't find anything. Everything seems to be working fine.

The wierd thing is that its not coming from the speakers. Its definitely coming from behind the console.

It's not the fan because having it on or off doesn't make a difference. Stereo on or off, no difference...headlights on or off, no difference.

Any ideas? The car is great otherwise!

Fuel pump? I hear a buzzing sometimes but only after I turn the car off.

I would say it's weird because you shouldn't hear the fuel pump over the sound of the motor.

Definitely not the fuel pump...unless it's behind the centre console! This is lower frequency buzzing...not like the whine of a fuel pump.

If I turn the key to the ON position, it will take about a second for the noise to start.

Do you mean behind the center console (in the dash) or in the back seat?

that is strange, I know I was weirded out by the throttle body buzzing with the ignition on, and after the car has been turned off for a few secs, when I got it back in April (2006 Sport GT).

maybe that's what you're hearing? it could sould like its coming from inside - when youre inside. pop your hood and take a listen to confirm it's between the firewall and console, or engine bay.

Centre console in the dash.

This sound is on the whole time the car is running...I'm pretty sure it's not the throttle body as I can't hear any buzzing like that under the hood. I'm fairly certain it's from behind the dash.

Just so you guys know, I just traded up from an 05 sedan so I know a little whining and buzzing is normal on the MZ3...this is definitely not normal...

Might be the cabin temperature sensor , look there is a small window near of the ignition lock. There is a small cooler which being enabled all time while ignition is in run position.

OK, I'll check that. It does seem to be coming from around there. If that is the case do I just replace the whole sensor or is the cooler separate?

I forget to say that this sensor exists only in automatic climate control.
I have found one photo.

Sometimes, cleaning and re-lubricating helps too.

Holy SHOOT, no way!! honestly when I first read this post I thought of something like this, but I've not seen/heard anything like it since I was a kid in my parents 87 Audi Avant! So I very quickly dismissed the idea, thinking that was more than 20yrs later and different brand.

Way to go! :thumbsup
