Totally worth it... it's got it's little quirks and quarks but it's sure nice to finally have a legit f1 game again.

Ok...so four days later...and i'm starting to lose my mind....so many issues....like AI cars not pitting during a full race or losing any sort of grip over the course of an entire race....or an ai car spinning on their q out lap, and sitting in the gravel for the entire session but still posting a q lap faster than me without moving...
it doesn't end...i wonder if eb takes games back based on them being garbage.
But it's still pretty...and the weather is amazing.

There are a lot of bugs but it still is a fun game...especially if you are an F1 fan.

I wanted to pick up a copy of F1 2010 when I bought my PS3 on Saturday but the EB that I went to was sold out. They only received enough copies to fill pre-orders with one extra. What the heck is up with that?? The guy even said 'well you should have pre-ordered'. Why would I pre-order a game for a console that I didn't even own yet?
As for quirks...I have the F1 2009 that codemasters did for the Wii and that was not very good to the point that I lost interest in playing it. The most glaring issue was that pit stops took 20 seconds for some strange reason! Hopefully they can patch the PS3 version to clean up the bugs.
I have to agree with Lummix, this game has a lot of bugs.
There is no point playing this game on anything other than medium difficulty unless you really enjoy frustrating yourself. You can push and drive your ass off to get up a few positions but as soon as you pit you will be passed by the same cars that come in the pit behind you. Yep pretty frustrating sitting there in the pit watching the other teams stop change tires and then go out while you just sit there an wait.
That's the biggest bug I've seen or heard of.
Another bug, not so bad was coming in 6th place and then being told I won and getting 25 points???? seriously.
I will say it is still a fun game and I will play it a lot, but I am amazed Codemaster would let a game like this get out to the public. It will do nothing but bad things for their reputation.

I'm glad I read some of the feedback on this thread before I went to out and picked up a copy. Instead I'll be picking up Dead Rising 2.

If you guys are interested in following what is happening, here is a link to the official Codemasters forums discussing their F1 games. Under the F1 2010 heading there is a bug list stickied!

I'm really on the fence now about trying to hunt down a copy.

Went to pick-up my pre-ordered copy from EB games on the weekend and they didn't get enough stock in and didn't have a copy for me. I have been reading about all the bugs also and I'm thinking maybe I'll give this game a miss, or at least, wait until they deliver a patch and by that time, the price should be a lot less with all the bad press this is going to get. Real shame, since Codemasters has been working on this game for almost 2 years and it seems they still rushed it out the door to make a buck.
Edit: Tons of the bugs are already in videos listed on youtube, but this one is the funniest...

^ Is this video taken before or after the patch?
I guess I should have watched the video first before posting...but it is definitely pre-patch.

So, an update.
I've been following the Codemasters webpage and updates on the bug fixes patch that was going to be issued post release. Once they announced they were releasing a patch and what it addressed, I decided to go buy the game as I am a huge F1 fan.
I have the PS3 version of the game and the patch addressed the most significant issues like the pit stop bug where the pit crew lollipop guy was too cautious and wouldn't release you until all other cars were back on the track. They also incorporated a number of other minor fixes. The game still has some very minor annoyances, such as lack of visibility to your sector 3 laptimes in Practice and Qualification, but nothing that really detracts from the overall gameplay experience. You can set-up the game to run a full length practice and qualifications sessions, or a short version practice and qualification. The actual races can be set-up to run anywhere from a 20% race length to 100% race length in 10% increments.
Overall, if you are a fan of racing and F1 in particular, this is an incredible gaming experience. The tracks layouts are recreated exceptionally well and the dynamic weather aspect of the game is an incredibly cool feature also. Apart from the awesome visual effects of driving in rain (water collecting and dripping down your visor and spray off cars in front), it is pretty interesting when you start a race in the dry and you see the clouds start to roll in and the rain starts chucking it down after 3 or 4 laps and you need to pit for Intermediates or Wets because the car won't even stay on the track in a straight line because you start hydroplaning under the slightest throttle.
The driving dynamics are also very well simulated if you have the game settings and drivers assists calibrated to the realistic end. I do a lot of karting and have driven in shifter karts in both wet and dry conditions and this game does a fantastic job of simulating oversteer and understeer conditions in both dry and wet tracks. It also compensates for things like the track getting faster over time as it gets 'rubbered in' during practice and qualifying and also that the outside line has higher grip levels and is faster in the rain and that the curbs also become slippery like ice once wet and are to be avoided. In a wet race where it stops raining, you even get to see and feel where the racing line starts to dry up and grip levels start to increase as this happens. Get off that line and hit a large puddle though on the wrong tires and you'll be in trouble in no time... You will also wear out your Intermediates and/or Wet tires if you leave them on too long on a drying track and don't change them over. Your lap times become slower and your grip levels decrease really badly as the tires start to grain.
I really can't recommend this game enough, despite all the trolls on the Codemasters forums complaining about every little nuance and detail. If the 2010 version is this good, I can't wait to see how good the 2011 edition of this game will be!

^^agreed 100%. I really enjoy how you have to sort of develop a rhythm when racing or qualifying trying to get faster lap by lap. I would also recommend playing this game with a wheel. It adds to the experience so much more.

I'm so glad that they finally patched this game. There is still some work to be done but it is definitely and improvement over the release version.
