2008.5 model, the electrical motor for the a/c system is on for 7 sec, off for 15 sec and my dealer says that is normal. The constant clunking on/off is fairly annoying. Just wanted to check if this is really "normal"

What bugs me is that it runs all winter, it activates automatically when you have the front window defrost air going. Also, I usually get an oval pattern on the front window right above the center defrost when it rains. Maybe just a bad design of the air flow.

You can turn it off you know. In the winter you should be using hot air to defrost / defog your windows. Just turn ac off, change your temp setting to hot, and let 'er rip. if you start to see an oval like that, either change your temperature setting, or switch from defog to normal. I never paid much attention to my ac, but normally I have music going and can't hear it. But I was listening to mine today oddly enough. And yes mine seems to do that too.

really? Pretty sure that the AC cycles in any defrost mode - Even at full heat. It removes the moisture from the air and prevents it from fogging up.

Yup...Basically from the 12 o-clock position and anything beyond that to the right the A/C kicks on. Hitting the A/C button will NOT turn it off. At least in my car but I'm pretty sure this would have been true in older models as well (I have 08.5).

I do agree that changing the temp will help to some extent but not always. Though to be fair, I don't have the defrost on much unless I really needed and then switch to something else once it's gone so it's never on for long

Yes, the A/C is not on but the electric compressor motor runs in defrost mode. It would be nice if they designed it a bit differently so it doesn't cycle so often and so it spins down and spins up slowly. Then no one would notice or care.

Not helpful, in case you don't realize it is impossible to find threads like this because the search engine won't return results for short words "AC", "A/C", "AIR", etc. If you've read many posts on this subject then a summary would be very helpful :)
