I see that a couple guys here had alternator and or MAF wiring as the cause. I called dealer to price an alternator was over $700.00 plus labour. It goes into Mazda dealer Thursday for diagnosing...praying that I don't have to put a grand into it, will post results

No CEL but when voltage gets around 11 VDC it looses power steering, power steering and ABS light comes on. Put on charger at night and battery holds enough for a couple hours of driving.:whoa

I never lost power from this. I just get a CEL and feel some bogging when accelerating.
Goodluck...

I was right, alternator bad...dealership quoted $1100.00, I found one at scrap yard for $75 and am paying for them to install it. Damn...3 year old car with bad alternator and I just got recall notice for power steering...Damn

it normally shouldn't die if the battery was in good shape... if the battery is bad, it will kill the alternator
