I tried searching, but can't find anything. I have an 07 hatch. The stupid annoying red button on the keyfob so often gets hit by stupid annoying me and whatever is in my pocket. Honk, honk, honk!!! grrrr

Anyways, is there an easy way to disable it? Either electrically, or even a tip to just pop it open and physically jam the button?

Thanks

The panic button is there for a reason. Why disable it? You're better off coming up with preventative measures for not pushing the button.

I consider myself a bit of a tough guy, and I watch MMA, so I'm not too worried.

tough guy or not...just keep the button there. i've never heard of anyone disabling a panic button. i use it all the time...to scare people who lean on my car.

For real?? You guys USE the panic alarm? I came out once when it was honking and a raccoon was leaning back on the windshield with his feet up.

I guess I know why the search function didn't work for me. No one else gets annoyed by the accidental honking.

That's funny. I watch NHL hockey but it doesn't make me a professional hockey player. :chuckle

I never have this problem. Is it going off while the keys are in your pocket?

I trust you know the MMA comment was meant as a joke. :)

Yeah, the button gets hit while it's in my pocket. I know I could switch pockets, etc, but I really figured people must be disabling it. I popped open the fob and check, and because of how the button activates, it's not easy to jam with a piece of paper or whatever. I could wrap around the outside with hockey tape but that would be uber-ugly. hmmmm

Yes I know. :)

Yeah not sure how you could disable it. I would carry less stuff in your pockets maybe?

You could take the fob apart, and pull out the physical panic button so there is nothing that will press the sensor on the circuit board to activate it. (Not sure if that made any sense, but I just woke up....hopefully you can understand what I mean)

I understand. But I'd literally have to pry it off with a screwdriver, and I wonder if that would ***up the whole things. Still surprised no one else had done this or inquired about it.

That's not an issue. You would have to pry it apart anyways should you ever need to chance the battery. They are designed so you can pull it apart. Another idea would be to put tape over the button, making it harder to press.

Sorry, I meant, I already did pry open the fob to see what's inside. (funny enough, from there I can't exactly see how to pry out the battery, hurts my fingernails to try). Anyways, to then take out the internal button for the panic alarm, I'd have to pry it right off the circuit board with a screwdriver. That's where I'm worried it all goes fubar.

Don't try to use a screwdriver, you're quite likely to put it through the board of take out some of the other components. What you really should be doing is de-soldering the joints that hold the switch on with a soldering iron. If you don't have one it would be better to just wedge something in behind the plastic exterior button to stop it from being depressed.

If the panic alarm is going off while the fob is in your pocket aren't you concerned about your doors being unlocked too??

Possibly, but with the Mazda3, if no one opens the door within, I believe 60sec, the doors lock back up again.

or use this as an excuse to upgrade to a flip key... you have to hold down the panic button on the flip keys to actually make it work

Hmm, is that for sure about the flip key? Where to get on other than driving to Toronto Mazda. I'm in Oakville.

On my flipkey, you only have to press the red panic button rather than hold it to trigger it.

I also LOVE using my panic button when random punks lean on my car smoking. 9/10 time they'll drop their cigarette and waste it. :chuckle

Why don't you just get a man-purse to carry all your stuff? You could put your key fob in one of the compartments so it doesn't get pressed by accident.

Yeah, but at least you'll have your "working" panic button readily available. :chuckle
