Got my oil changed there this morning... I was waved into the service bay to look under my car. They said the splash shield was broken, and needed to be replaced... $190 + Tax and installation.
Funny thing is, I just checked my splash shield for something else the day before and didn't see any damage. So it seems they damaged it during removal, and they wanted to charge me for it :bang The service advisor kept insisting that it wasn't their fault, and that things just "break". A closer inspection of the car also revealed greasy hand-prints all over the inside and outside of the car. Since I had to leave for work, I just left in a huff... This sucks :(

Funny, I just got a call.. car was in for an engine light on... I get a call back saying the code was because my gas cap was loose. Next time this happens they will charge me.
I told me I haven't filled up gas since last Saturday and this light only came on now?! Maybe it got loose over time which is technically a faulty part. Not pleased with that, luckily I dont have to pay. I'm sorry about your bad luck. :(

Westowne is just around the corner from my work. I went there for my first test drive. Nothing impressed me about the sales team there. They didn't take me too seriously, not spoke about the car a lot. I guess the guy though since I was buying my first new car I wasn't serious.
I should drive by in my ride and thank him for being a prick cause I found myself an amazing deal elsewhere.

QEW is too out of the way for me :P
Westowne used to be decent to me, but I found they've really fallen off - Nobody seems to want to take responsibility/ownership for anything. $190+tax+install is quite a bit for something I didn't cause...

man... i hate hearing stuff like this... it's things like this, that give dealerships a bad name for General Service (oil change, lube filter). that is a lot of money... did they charge you to install it as well? or just parts?

Yeah your telling me. You don't do your own oil changes so why would u be under your car messing around with the cover. This is what warranty is for. I would have argued and said if you guys ain't covering it then leave it. Take it to another dealership and let them fix it for free.

As I understood it, it was $190 + Tax + Installation. I had to run for work, so I didn't argue the point - but declined the splash guard. Not quite sure what to do now, since the damage was caused by a dealership, I don't expect another dealership to step up.

O.o Wow, someone unexpectedly stepped up to the plate, even without being contacted! The guys over at QEW Mazda actually reached out to me twice today having read my post, to see what they can do for me. Fingers crossed!

You should then go to the media and tell them of this. See how Westowne will feel afterward. This will put more pressure on dealerships to step up.

doubt media will cover it....
unless you have proof of the splash shield being OKAY before he went in.. pic of some kind.
they won't do it like they did to the retirement home and spy on dealerships.

Finally made time to head over to QEW to get the shield replaced, and that annoying noise checked out. John was super-polite, everything was done really quick, though I couldn't replicate the noise in rain for some reason, and to top it off, the splash guard was paid for out of QEW's pocket!
Man, it's a bugger to get out that way, but like most other things in life, you gotta put in that little extra to get the little extra :)

Here is the first part of the story...... I'll update after the work is completed:
So I was actually on my way to Ontario Mazda with my 2007 Mazda GT Sedan for the Service 2 (whatever that 2 hour service they do when you hit around 70,000kms). As I was driving along Dundas near Kipling station, I hit a nasty bump/ pothole in the road. Immediately after, I hear a dragging sound.... so I'm thinking heat shield came loose. I pull over to take a look, and it's the undercover hanging by one side. FML!!!!!!
On the positive side (crossing my fingers), as I'm cursing out loud with my fists in the air....... I look across the street and realize I'm right in front of a Mazda Dealership; Westowne Mazda. So I walk in.... talk to some of the customers there who are getting service..... talk to the service advisor (Joelle)..... and after getting some feedback, I decided to give it a chance and have them look at the under cover as well as do the Service 2 I was on my way to Ontario Mazda for. I'll update on the results...........
(On another note, I'll admit that this dealership looks really clean and modern. I understand they just completed their renovations recently. Definitely bigger and cleaner than Ontario Mazda).

So it's about an hour into the service or so, and they brought me into the service pay so I could see the damage for myself (much appreciated). It looks like I hit the under cover pretty good as I can see where the support broke right off. Thank God I just grazed the AC unit and the bearings were not affected. They gave their pitch on things that they would recomment, which I would expect, but nothing was pressured as they told me what I can hold off on and in what order or importance (tranny flush, brake fluid, etc.). Let's see how this goes..... another hour to go.

So my car was ready on time (technically a little early by a few minutes). The Servie Advisor (Joelle) went through all the paper work thoroughly and explained the detailed work that was done. As I requested, she did include all the service resommendations including the prices. To my surprise, she also advised me that I will be getting an extra 10% off the work done today as they noticed I was from the Toronto Mazda3 club. I was surprised because I didn't know Westown gave out discounts to club memebers, and was also surprised because on my '07 there is no TM3 decals. The '10 does, but not the '07.... !?!?!?! I checked the work done on my car and am satisfied with the results. No complaints from my end :)
