Just picked up the car on Saturday and already put 500kms on the new car. I washed it once already and noticed that the front brakes are dusting quite a bit.

Anybody know how long these original brakes last?

My old Honda OE brakes took me to 125 000 kms before my first change. The next set was a dissapointing 90 000 kms (Hawk HP).

Oem brakes are known to release a lot of dust. Honestly there is no way anyone can tell you how long they will last. There are so many variables including your driving style and where and when you tend to drive (highway vs city; rush hour vs off peak hours), etc.

The best thing you can do is keep an eye on them. Get them inspected two or more times each year. After a year, all things being equal, you should have a sense of how long they will last.

+1 on what donutz said. The big thing is why are you worried about how long they will last? The most important thing to me about my brakes/pads is how good they stop when i need them. If I've got brakes that'll stop me a few metres shorter in an emergency i could care less if they only last 70% or 80% as long as brakes that don't. I don't know what the brake bias is on our cars but on my last 2 cars I've needed to change my rear brakes once per every 2nd time I changed my fronts

I'm just lazy and cheap I guess. I want good brakes but just don't want to replace them too often. Brakes that dust a lot probably means that you are losing lots of brake material. It's a PIA to replace pads and rotors.

Dusting also makes your wheels look crappy. obviously you can't have a pad that doesn't dust but it would be great to have a material that isn't as visible. I've been using EBC Green stuff on my other car and it works as well Hawk HPS but does not dust any where as much.

As for biasing... i assume it is electronically controlled by EBD

I agree with Froggy and Donutz. That being said, still on original breaks and I'm ~82,000km. Nothing wrong with them so far and when I get my car serviced they said they were still in great condition. Most of my drive is highway non-rush hour (or at least not stop & go) but I have tracked it a couple times and still look good for wear.
