View Full Version : Camber question after allinement

So today I got a wheel allinement and they fixed the front end and then they called me in to look at the rear end. They should me some numbers and the one that was not good was the left rear camber was at - 3.00 and the right at -2.45. I'm only at 54,000 km and still running stock suspension.
So my questions are how is it out that much if it's stock suspension and what can be done besides a camber kit?
I'm trying to figure out how I need an after market camber kit for my car and i haven't even touched my suspension system.
My apologies if all this is a stupid question but I'm not good with this aspect of cars

Rear camber is supposed to be between -1º20' (±1º) and -1º27 (±1º) depending on fuel level. So the largest value you should see is -2º27' with a full tank.
Did you get your car new? It may have been in an accident if the alignment is really that far out. You probably still have warranty on the car.... might be covered.... no idea how they would correct without aftermarket parts though...

sounds like you may have some bent suspension components in the rear. The camber cannot be adjusted at all on these cars. It is a mixture of the toe and camber, the more you adjust the toe the more the camber gets adjusted in the rear. You want toe to be bang on camber wont be an issue as much. The reason why you have camber wear is because the toe is out of whack. the wheels are in most cases pushed inwards, while rotating with the negative camber you are forcing the wheels in to a position they cannot go. because the car is going straight and you are `shaving`your tires down on the inside edge

Ya I got the car brand new. I have never hit anything or don't anythin to warnt this damage. That's why I'm confused on how it could be so bad.
So if I can't get it warrentied anyone have suggestions for a camber kit to go with? Company... Ajustable etc?

There are only two kinds of adjustable rear links: cast ones made by SPC and rebranded by several companies (Eibach, Megan, SPC....).... and one company makes an aluminum version, but I don't recall which company......
You can also get the non-adjustable Mazdaspeed ones, but they are more expensive and of course won't let you set the camber exactly where you want it.

I had an idiot setup the alignment machine wrong initially. Got wacky numbers, and drove like scary siht. Go to the same place and get another alignment guy to check it. This assumes these have more than one.

i would request the print out of before and after specs of the alignment that were done to the car to start. That will show you what they did when you had the alignment done. That may be able to prove what they did. Also you will have to find out if they adjusted the values to spec or 0. To spec means for example the rear left and rear right wheel are supposed to be at -1.0 camber and thats what will display on the screen. If they align to 0 that means the -1 camber = 0 so you are dead on to factory spec

the guy i went to i a friend of my fathers and i have never delt with him my self but ya. they were using a computerized machne for the test with lights and sensors etc. they showed me the numbers right after the test and then after the fixed the front toes. and thats all fine they just didnt even touch the rear end because they said there was nothing they could do for me at all except order a camber kit.
so Mcguyver went i looked at the numbers for the rear it showed - 3.00 for the left and -2.45 for the right. i would want these to be, after the camber kit, at -1.00 on the mechine . im pretty positive that for this alinement mechine you put the type of car in and then go from there so meaning it knows what it should be at for a mazda 3. so in other words i need to change the left side by +2.00 and the left by +1.45... not +3.0 and +2.45.

so what im getting from this is the non adjustable ones are not wat i want. so the mazdaspeed ones are not good for me because they done adjust. ill have to search all these companys for what i find works best for my numbers.

I was using those numbers as a reference to help explain what is going on and what should be happening. Now in order to find what you need here is a link
camber kit you will be needing (http://cgi.ebay.ca/Adjustable-REAR-CAMBER-KIT-FORD-FOCUS-MAZDA-3-MAZDA-5-/200532254948?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2eb0a760e4)

alrite i understand. well i guess at this point i will talk to the dealer about this see what they say. then go from there... if i have to get a camber kit then ill spend the extra money and just lower the stupid thing and make it worth the money of taking the suspension apart.
thanks for all the help guys.

The ones he linked are the SPC ones I mentioned earlier.... since they are the same ones (rebranded) that you find everywhere there is not point in paying extra just to get a particular brand.
