Need some help with this. I got a violation notice from the City of North York/Toronto regarding my 17" boat which I towed back from the cottage two weeks ago.
No it doesn't look like shit and is not an eyesore. I'm sure some nosy hating neighbour reported it to the city.
The house does not have a garage and only has two vehicles parked. The boat and my bro's Corolla.
The offence was parking of boat in rear yard. Don't know what the **** that means as its right on the driveway and not rear yard.
Does anyone know what's the official rule on recreation vehicles? You gotta love how this city gouges you on property taxes but limits you on what you can do with your OWN property. No wonder people move out of this shitty city.

This is by-law enforced mostly by complains. Your nest bet is to call city and ask about this particular one.
"City"=counselors+mayor we vote for. Here in Aurora I was told: majority rules - most ppl don't like big boats and RVs on Town streets and drive ways. I rent storage :(
(Pls excuse my poor English)

Thanks. I am going to get in touch with the inspector.
I don't care what people like or not. Its all about the bylaw and I need more information on what I'm violating.
For majority to simply say "I hate Mazda3s" doesn't mean we all stop driving them.

OMG...I'd be SO annoyed...
Some people take life too seriously... some lady called the cops because I was driving my miniature dirtbike I use as a pit bike at trackdays up and down my street (a cul de sac) for a few minutes to get the fuel stabilizer run into the carb. there is no lawn mower that is quieter than this stock mini honda....

Is there a by-law number on the ticket? Does the house frontage exist on the same street as the driveway (corner lot)? Sadly its one of those shitty things, the intention of the by-law is to stop people (like a guy down the street from me) from keeping a boat, etc just left in the driveway. I swear the guy down from us hasn't had the boat in the water in 20 years and most likely doesn't float......granted I don't care about it. As sochi said you have a "wonderful" neighbour.
City of Toronto
"Apart from environmental concerns, other reasons to regulate front yard parking include:
- Parking space is used for storage and not for parking."
Could defend yourself,
Also off the CoT site
"What is the front yard?
- It is the area across the entire width of a lot, lying between the front property line and the front main walls of a building on the lot"
Good luck with whatever happens.

I do have wonderful neighbours. The house is in the Bathurst and Wilson area. Draw your own conclusions.
What I don't understand about the violation is "rear yard". The boat is clearly on the driveway tucked at the end of it out of courtsey for my neighbours. I'm not bragging but the boat costs more than some of the cars I see in the driveways on the street. I had the boat parked at my uncle's driveway (3 blocks away) for 2 years with NO complaints before I had to move it back in mine because he bought a Mustang.
If it just means I have to move the boat up to where its deemed my driveway, I'll do so.
I just store it here for the winter and its the water in spring.
Meh. You gotta love haters.

This is the only source I could find related to driveway bylaws.

Any pictures of it as it sits on your property now/when the ticket was issued?
Definitely a crappy situation to be in! We used to have a neighbour up here who would call the cops for the smallest things - to say he made himself no friends would be an understatement. In fact, he once called the cops on us saying that our dog crapped on his lawn and that we never cleaned it up (bs, we never even let our dog on his lawn because we knew how he was and we ALWAYS poop&scoop) and the cops came to our door and suggested that my dad go pick it up and buy him a beer after to show no hard feelings. REALLY?! He moved out of the neighbourhood many years ago though. Hopefully your neighbour(s) won't be/aren't as bad!
In Mississauga they don't care if you park a boat on your property, I'm surprised that Toronto does. As someone mentioned, this type of bylaw exists, ie: it is an offence, but generally the cops don't care and will only ticket you if a neighbour complains. I used to park on my street over night and then some ******* neighbour started calling the cops on people who parked on the street. The law had been there for ages, but cops had been ignoring the cars. So essentially, there isn't much you can do. Although, find out more information on that specific bylaw and find out if it's as simple as moving your boat further back on your driveway.
You should go on a mission and question all your neighbours randomly. The one that has the weirdest reaction will be the guilty party. :P

Some cidiots are so anal-retentive. That's why I live rural. The key word is 'live'.
BTW, he's probably jealous of your boat.

Got in touch with the Toronto inspector today and here is the official rule:
You can park recreational vehicles on your property under the following conditions:
1) Its in your garage
2) Its in your backyard but on a hard surface (cannot be on grass).
You cannot park it naked on your driveway. He goes to say "Can you imagine if everyone had a boat and parked it on their driveway?"
I said "I don't need to imagine, I was just in the Midwest USA and thats how it was. It was fine."
Anyways, this isn't something I can win so I asked for 30 days to make the correction.
Meh. This city is the dumps. First the ****en Hydro rates go up and then bullsh!t like this. What's next? You'll get a notice of violation for washing your car more than once a week?

Parking on the street where there is no other place to park fine.. but not if every house has a two+ parking spaces and the street is full almost every night.
