The side sills (skirts) are built for the 2010 mazda 3 hatches. I recently got them installed (by dealership) as an 'add-on' accessory on my sedan and they fit perfectly. Not sure what dealership you talked to but they misinformed you.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the hatches come with it? (especially the GT trim level)

Hatches come with them already installed (definitely on the GT, And I believe on the GS). Jeff/theBiz had his dealership install them on his GT sedan, so they do fit perfectly. There is no difference between body styles in this regard.

I installed them on my 2010 3GT sedan. They fitted 100 %.

I ordered them from Andrew at Oakville Mazda, now QEW Mazda.

Hey Charlie,

Was wondering when you installed these yourself, did you have a minor gap between the car frame and the sill or does it sit flush?

You have to keep them tight to the body with tape when you are installing them like I showed them in the picture.

Those Nextmod replicas...can I just use only 3M tape to attach it? How well would that work out?

hey charlie, did you use and adesive glue or just 3m?, did the stills come pre painted and how much did you get them for??

For these side sills, I highly suggest not to use just 3M tape. I got the dealer to install this part, there was drilling needed to be done on the frame of the car so that the clips hold the side sills. I believe Charlie will be able to give some insights of how to and how many holes needed on each side. The dealership did used adhesive gule where the sills hugs the fender/wheel well. Hope that helps.

The thing is, I would consider doing this mod only if my car doesn't get drilled. Personally, seeing Mazda3's (and the Protege's) track record with rust, drilling holes is just asking for trouble.

There are five holes to be drilled on each side, if I am not mistaken.

In the instructions the hole sizes are specified.

You will be better off using an under size 'no land drill' first.
This type of drill will prevent gouging the metal.

Finish the holes with a final size reamer in order to get a clean edge result,

If you paint the bare metal edges twice before you proceed, the metal will be protected from any rust.

You do not need any 3m tape, the clips will pull the Sills tight to the body, but a fine bead of silicone along side of the top edge before doing the final marry up, will help any water seaping behind the sills.

Good luck.

Charlie

Correction !

In the instructions below I should have said:-

will help any water " FROM" seaping behind the sills.
