Yeaaaahhh no too impressed, pcp_°. Especially since we had to leave lunch to get back in time.

@ 5_Alive, I would at least change the RMM. Yesterday Sure was dropped as a Vendor on MSF (Mazdaspeed Forums). It was believed they were knowingly selling unsafe products (with very little R&D), they will not replace those products, & they stopped responding to people. Ive seen a picture of a sure RRM and it looked like Godzilla chewed it up and spat it out.

Nope but I can monitor engine coolant temp with the dashawk and it was running high given then temps outside so I knew it was losing coolant. Once I got home you could hear the coolant pouring out.

Shit.....

which hose?

Must have been slow leak at first. Remember I had to top up the coolant on Saturday.

Hose from the hard line to the turbo. The hose onto the stainless steel male adaptor split the whole length

I don't think that is true. MSF is more concerned for non-MSF'ers claiming to be NATOR this and that, when they never put in the time on MSF to truly understand the NATOR creed and history. Now that our cars are mostly running fine, ppl have perversed NATOR into something as simple as another social media outlet to smack talk. Not many realize the roots of NATOR was first for men to come to gether to make things happen, and also to provide a non-judgemental support group in sharing and commiserating over failures ...not just for shared car troubles, but those of us who have become friends, to share in real life miseries and failures as well as celebrate victories.

It is the perversion of NATOR in lieu of fast cars and success that HQ would be concerned about. Furthermore, our tight knit local NATOR.TO group does carry out the NATOR creed and spirit whether we use their 5-ltr word or not. And we'd have nothing to NATOR about if it wasn't for its inception on MSF.

Another example...imagine Meatload/Robert Paulson...decided to start up his own Fight Club, after losing his first fight and never going back, while claiming his version is the same Fight Club as Tyler Durden's? I suppose that is the meat of the issue NATOR HQ is addressing...charlatans.

At the end of the day, nothing will change for the boys here in TO

Well...it shouldn't be about letting ppl in...it's more about individuals making themselves worthy to be included. Case in point: everyone in TO bring their best to the table...tools, expertise, experience, insight, know-how...these are things each and every NATOR share with each other. Using this model, no one takes anything from the group for nothing...like free installs for someone just showing up and claiming NATOR.

I very much agree with you in that whatever is going on down in the US have very little to do with how we operate...if we have to change the name, so be it...who cares. We keep rolling the way we've been rolling. :)

for those who are intersted, here's a sampling of two threads that are currently very active on MSF where we are hashing out heat management and OEM ringland issues. The discussion can only carry weight with the knowledge that is shared by those who work with or think about the car daily. When you brush aside all the homophobic and racial herp-derp on MSF, you will find very pertinent info regarding the current development of the platform:

anyone help a brotha out?

general question: when doing any install on any car i've owned (all 2 of them) whats always made me the most nervous is the old rusted bolts that are impossible to detach. I would hate to strip the bolts and then have to deal with an even bigger problem. How do you guys remove bolts which are harder to remove? Do i need a compressor + air tools? Do you guys just spray the bolts with something and leave them over night?

My car will likely require some bigger installs in the near future (clutch/transmission/fmic). When I inquired about labor on these installs I realized I could probably just get the tools I need for the same/cheaper and just do it myself.. I'd prefer to learn something anyway.

I would say its a combination of the two in order to get off old rusty bolts/nuts... Spray it and let it sit for a while then use the impact gun to get the bolt/nut going. Using hand tools doesn't apply the right forces in order to break the rust free and the impact gun shakes + spins so it helps knock everything free. Rusty bolts and nuts are one of my biggest fears too because you obviously don't want to break off anything.

Using power tools can still break off the stuff so its all about using your judgement when something is stuck. I had this issue with my DP and exhaust bolts... had to just take my time and spray the crap out of them with PB Blaster, had to do it one turn at a time but it worked.

Stupid question of the day:

Can I stack two ground wires together before attaching it to the car? Where's a good place to put a ground wire on the driver's side (near the fuse box)?

Yes. That's fine.

Should be a place on the drivers side fender right where the hood sits closer to the wipers.

Thanks again Dave. Don't you love my stupid questions???

FYI, meth kit is all wired up and ready to go. Just missing an add-a-circuit to tap the fuse box for the controller's power.

I bought a few sets of add-a-circuit, but they can't handle more than 10A, so I ordered something from ebay instead.

Pentetrating fluid (Acetone + ATF works well if you don't want to get liquid wrench/pb blaster/wd40 penetrant) will help free things up, give it at least a few minutes before going at it, the longer the better. Impact wrench can help because it applies force a little differently (hammering versus constant) but it can also very easily break things off or round off fastners before you have a chance to stop it. A big breaker bar and good quality sockets is key, as you can apply more force more evenly in the right way, flank drive sockets help from rounding things off, the right sizing is critical (no useing sae on a metric fastner). Don't ever heave on something if the socket isn't fully square and on the nut/bolt, it will just round it off, avoid extensions/universals as well as they don't apply torque as squarely if you can help it, use a wire brush to clean things up so the socket can fit on all the way. A torch helps (propane/mapp is ok, oxy-acetylene is better) to heat the area around the stuck bolt causing it to swell and break the rusty bonds. A bit of skill and knowledge helps too.

Failing all that, have extractors, damaged socket removers, cutoff wheels, grinders, etc will help to remove shit once it breaks. Then just need to replace the bolts which can be a bit of fun from time to time to find. Plan ahead, if shit looks rusted up, buy the replacements before you start and swap them anyway.

Finally, on assembly use some anti-seize, grease, fluid film, thread locker, etc (the right kinds where appropriate of course) to help things go together, stay together and come apart easily in the future.

How are you wiring it? Something doesn't make sense.

Pump red line to controller green line.

Then controller red line taps into the fuse box.

I looked online and the instructions were to use an add-a-circuit and tap into the ENG BAR fuse, which is 15A, but my stupid add-a-circuit only supports up to 10A.

http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/oo34/djuosnteisn/fuse-wheretoadd.jpg

So then I tried looking for a 10A fuse, and the only one I found was one that's called ENG+B. I looked that up online, and that fuse is for the PCM/ECU.

Don't tell Paul, but I've tapped into a 30 amp circuit with a tap-a-circuitNothing happened... I'm sure it has something to do with the gauge of wire used and probably other factors that Paul could talk about for hours. But at the end of the day, your pump won't be running continously, so I don't think the 5amps are gonna make a difference.... (I assume you're talking about the rating on the add a circuit that says you shouldn't run more then 10 amps, regardless of fuse used, right?)

Just pull that 10 amp fuse out and slap on the ENG BAR 15. Then slap on a 10 amper in the add-a-circuit closest to the wire feeding your pump...

If it was actually pulling 30 amps through a wire rated for 10, there is a good possibility if its fused at 30 amps, the wire will burn out, and who knows what other electronics or harnesses.

The 10A fuse is more than enough for the meth system. I've tested the current draw of the pump many times and it hovers around 4-5A when running full bore. The extra 5A is buffer.

I missed the part where you said you used an add a circuit. I thought you straight up spliced into a 10 gauge wire. The add a circuit has 2 fuses, 1, which would be the 30A for the original circuit, and the second one is the fuse for the new wire.
now if both fuses were 30A, then you have a potential problem

Can you rotate the top part of the wastegate actuator so that the nipple points in a different direction, or is it stuck like that?

You can rotate it 180*

You do that by in bolting it and rotating it. The position of the bolts is what will limit the position of he air fitting.

The rod to the waste gate should be able to rotate in any direction.

So as I rotate the top, the rod will rotate as well, or are you talking about something completely different here?

OK, I just re-read what you said, so I think I get what you're trying to say now. To rotate it, you have to take the actuator off the turbo, and can only rotate it by 180*. So I guess you can't rotate it like, say, 45*.

Hey guys, I just ordered a Stage 2 Snow Performance MAF kit with Vince and I was wondering if I should look into buying any other random pieces I may need for the install. I know a couple of you guys are running meth so I was curious as to what extra bits I may want to pick up to make the install a bit easier.

I need to figure out a place to mount the tank, pump and control unit so any information about the set ups would be a great help. I want to make it easy to refill so I was tickling the idea of using my windshield washer tank since I barely used it anyways but at the same time if there is room in the engine bay I can mount of the Snow performance tank. There's a dude on MSF that runs dual tanks, you can look into that how-to to set it up.

For simplicity sake, I just tapped my WWF tank with the Devils Own tank tap.

You could also tap the lines, but on the Gen2 you need a whole bunch of random stuff that is hard to find locally (at least I tried looking without any luck). You'll need a bunch of "T" fittings, a wash fluid check valve, and some extra washer fluid lines.

Where do you plan on mounting the nozzle? If you tap the cold pipe, you'll need to get a tap (and die) set. If you plan to mount it to the silicone coupler, I have a DO mount that I'm not using right now.

Which nozzle do you plan on using? The ones with the kit are kinda finicky (in terms of installation), unless you're tapping the cold pipe.

The kit should come w/ an "L" shaped nozzle holder, but it's kinda tall so if you tap the top part of the cold pipe, you will need a low profile holder (from DO). I have an extra one (for Loki), but if he doesn't want it you can get it from me.

Are you going to solder the wires or just use butt connectors? You may need extra wiring depending on where you're gonna mount the pump.

That's all I can think of for now.

I was planning on putting the nozzle on the silicone so I don't have to buy a new cold pipe down the road. I rather just replace the tubes if I ever stock out.

Seems like a D05 (or SP comparible) seems to be the most commonly used one so I will probably do that unless anyone else has a better suggestion.

I am not sure what comes with the kit but it says it has all the hardware needed for installation so I would hope it comes with something for me to tap the silicone.

So would you suggest getting a particular nozzle for silicone tapping?

If you want to use the nozzle mount, then DO5 outside mount is what you're looking for.

It was a bitch to get the Snow Perf nozzle to fit into the nozzle mount.

There's also "the washer mount", but you need an inside mount nozzle (DO, Aquamist)

#1. Why do you want your car to be so loud? To me it sounds like the car is falling apart but Chris loves it. I'm embarrassed to drive it around yet Chris will stand in the drive way as I move out just to hear the car make the "pst" sound. I don't get it.

#2. Am I the only one who feels the car will spontaneously blow up after one of your nator sessions?

#3. What is plastidip and why does Chris curse it in his sleep?

1) Loud noises. Racecar. 2 Fast 2 Furious.

2) Nator does not cause blowups, Chris' car being possessed causes blowup

3) Spray latex

To stop him cursing in his sleep simply whisper 'don't worry jerry is here' over and over until episode stops.

Cold in the house after furnace has been deboosted?

Screw 2 fast 2 furious. I asked Chris if he wanted me to take him to see fast and furious 6 and he rejected me cuz he said he was going to see it w you guys.

Don't worry, Paul actually does most of the work while Chris struts around in his UofT Engineering jump suit. Seriously. Who shows up to a NATOR meet and claims "This old thing? I just happen to be wearing it... I didn't even realize it said that on the back..." Back on topic. Don't worry, Paul does most of the work, so it's legit.

See how the big black hose is pressing up against the little hose coming out of the actuator? I fear that someday the movement will tear the little hose, but as of right now, the little hose is fine (confirmed by Jerry).

put a ziptie around the two. problem solved, if it hasnt rubbed a hole yet

Agree with Alex. I might even add some rub resistant material in between, then zip tip. Another word of comfort, I suppose, is that if either one of them moves, they'll be moving together.

Adapter spoken for.

It'll work, but the nozzle itself needs quite a bit of work to thread it in... ask me how I know.

Best bet is to order a DO nozzle to save yourself the headache. Make sure you get the correct one that works with the adapter (outside mount nozzle).

Just wanted to run my thoughts through you guys before putting my order though :P

My order:
1 Snow performance adapter

Glad to see Anson's latest logs getting the KR out of them with the meth, I hope I do the same :)

Whenever I look for random hardware like this I always end up finding every size except the size I need lol... thanks for all the help by the way, I really appreciate the advice.

And the last question before I go into buying anything, what's the deal with the check valves and upgraded solenoids?
I know they keep the lines from back flowing and syphoning but what are the actually times that this happens and you need one?

I am gonna do some research on the matter but if anyone has a short answer, let me know :)

There a several factors, like nozzle location in relation to reservoir, pump location in relation to reservoir, etc.

If you're trunk mounting Snow highly recommends a solenoid upgrade (also if spraying post TB).

My original plan was to trunk mount, so I ordered a solenoid with my kit, as it stands I just mounted it in the bay and used the solenoid anyway.

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/31/5ejupeqe.jpg

Also, Snow claims that their pumps have an internal check valve, but I know several went with DO check valves anyway.

It's just cheap insurance.

pwdunmore
03-31-2013, 11:47 PM
So basically you are saying I need to get a solenoid or a check valve if I am to have my meth system working properly?(no syphoning) because if so I am just going to get a check valve, for the sake of it being easier to install.

I planned to mount the tank somewhere in the engine bay, where ever I can find space, which seems to be by the driver's side fender.

Lex from MSF just answered my question for nvm... he said as long as there is a check valve or solenoid on the system I should be good because it has a cracking pressure of 16psi(so it would stop syphoning under vacuum). I am gonna get a check valve from DO and a McMaster-Carr Nozzle for washer mounting on the silicone. (Contemplating getting a DO nozzle too)

Apparently they are good nozzles to mount this way because they have longer threads to allow for 2 washers on either side of the silicone.

Android or Ultragauge/AP combo, just need to get a OBDII Splitter so I can monitor KR because the ultragauge doesn't have KR but everything else. (the ultragauge has alarms for warnings too)

Why is everyone all over the oil temperature monitoring? Is it better then measuring coolant temp?

You can't split the signal. It's AP or some thing else not both.

Coolant temp is not your oil temp.

Digital vs analog you won't be able to read numbers on a digital read out but you can view needle general position in the corner of your eye

Hard to do because once you bid, you're gonna be stuck with that budget until the project finishes. Would be worst if operation and maintenance is included in the bid; would most likely dip into the profit if problems occur during construction. It's a crazy world I tell ya. :chuckle
