Fobio, I'm an aerospace machinist. I program and set up CNC lathes to produce ultra high precision parts for airplanes and us military cameras which are used on the predator attack drone unmanned vehicle. They do everything from guidance, to targeting to night vision and heat sensing/infrared.
You?

You?
I watch other ppl's money for living, as an Investment Associate/Advisor.
I'm sure you have a lot of merits and work in a field where you're counted amongst the higher exchelon to be trusted with precision parts that ppl's lives (or the destruction of) depends on.
Sometimes, I too, wish we can all get by on our merits alone. But like the real world, nothing's perfect.
You have other parts in mind that you think will help others? Pics?

I've often thought about going back to university to get an engineer's degree, but I make enough money as it is, and I find there to be more pride in the production of a high quality part, than there may or may not be in designing one.
I have a lot of parts in mind. I'll be branching off on my own in a couple years and dong the things I want to do more than the things I have to do right now. It really is a shame I won't be able to "sell", or even gauge interest on the local forum. By that time though, I'm not sure how much of a market there will be for our platform.
Making money with other people's money always intrigued me. What happens when it goes wrong?
More pics are in the works too.

we mainly focus on stuff that are safe...when you're dealing with big buckets, you don't want any holes/leaks, nor really need to take much risks. you life should be exciting, your investments should be boring.
other than solid shifter bushings (which I run), what else specifically can you make? For example, midz97 helped me with a couple of shifter extenders...

Those would be something I'd do if people were into it.
Things like shift weights. Weighted knobs. Light weight knobs. Stuff that can be machined from bar stock, as I'm a lathe specialist(and that happens to be the department I lead).
Once I have my place of my own the sky is the limit. I would never compare myself to anyone else, but plan to see stuff like jbarone's line, and more. Maybe some more detailed custom suspension bits... But this is down the road a ways.

I can help you bring some parts to market, but you can't sell anything on any forum without pics. Unlike large scale manufacturing, no one will put money up for parts unseen, esp when they haven't dealt with you before.
I'm all for helping out the local guy, so let's keep chatting. PM me your email, if you like.
When do you plan to get set up to churn these out?

Oh I would totally have pics of everything I inteded to produce, and I'd never make anything I wouldn't use myself.
For obvious reasons I wouldn't be able to run some ms6 stuff, but I would if I could.
I would have loved to gauge interest a bit longer in that other thread had someone not been on their period for the second time in a month. Wasn't selling anything. Wasn't breaking any rules. Thread got closed over pms. I guess when you're a volunteer, you really need to do your due diligence to keep the forum running the way YOU see fit for yourself.

It was closed by another mod because you couldn't resist being a sarcastic douche regarding a legitimate comment from him that you would eventually need to become a sponsor in order to sell anything on this site. He didn't shut you down at that point, but was making you aware.
In fact, had you not starting making sarcastic comments, you would have had free reign to gauge interest and probably even to do an initial order before we would have made you become a sponsor to continue. Instead, you acted like a sulky ass on your first day back after a one week vacation and so that person just shut the thread down.
You'll find that there is a direct correlation on how you will be treated on here based on how you treat others.

However, how you are viewed and how you treat other people on other forums is really kind of irrelevant. It is how you act and treat people on THIS SITE, that matters to us. Respect people and you will get the same in return. Have some patience and understanding, the same will be provided. Call it a quirky 'trend'.

I'm hoping this is the last time I have to clarify or justify one of my post. Although I understand what you are saying about the way I act on THIS site, and that's fine. The thing is, I'm the same everywhere, but have proven myself to be an asset enough to where people give me the respect I've earned based on the work I've done. Not how I post. Respect is earned. Not given. I fully intend on earning that respect from the mazdaspeed demograph, by producing high quality options for the platform. The feedback thread is totally relevant in that it paints a perfect picture of how I do business. If I am going to try to establish myself as a brand, people need to know how I do business. And for someone so new, that was the perfect avenue to base me on.

See normally I would delete this and the rest since it has absolutely NOTHING to do with "random MS3 chatter", but then I would be an anal mod by over cleaning yet another thread.
I'm not saying that you are wrong since there was a lot of language and tone that was unnecessary in the thread you linked to, but you are trying to connect a problem with a member who was problematic to someone who lashed out. These incidents are completely different even though both should be addressed.
If you think there is a problem with the way things are being handled on TM3, please submit a complaint. You have been here long enough to see what goes on and how things are dealt with. In most cases we are fair. If things get out of hand it's typically NOT because of an oversized ego of a mod. We (the mod team) may not always be right or handle a situation perfectly, but all we can do is try to do our best.
Instead of cluttering multiple threads with this attempt to show how a mod is wrong, report it. Or perhaps create another thread for discussion.

I work for Smith & Long Ltd.
Your cousin will tell you that high voltage is technically anything over 750V, and most commercial installations are 600V. Most of my work is on 600V distribution and I also do transformer testing on transformers up to 13800V, the regular household voltage is 240V just to put that into perspective. I get to wear the bomb suit at work when doing stuff like that, just in case. I think it's just a due diligence thing. If something does happen my safety manuals for all my equipment says I can expect 2nd degree burns all over my body but I won'd be dead. I'm honestly not sure what's worse. Just remember the next time you turn on that light or your computer that electricity comes from somewhere and there are people like me making it possible. When I hear people get all pissed off about a blackout it's because Hydro needed to shut something down so someone could work safely. Think really hard if watching TV or going on the internet is more important than someone's life the next time the power goes out. Enough of my rant.

I'm glad you have opened this up for discussion Ryan...good job!
In fact, I think this discussion is pertinent to the MS3 sections and indeed in the appropriate thread.
Personally, I believe that just like the MOD team isn't out to "get" anyone, neither are the members disagreeing with the MOD team on purpose. I think what was witnessed in the MS3 section with regards to Tokay444 and other noobs is a manifestation of other ongoing issues...to name one person or a group is too narrow a scope.
Let me raise a few of those issues.
A few older guys I have met offline have told me that they felt TM3 was infested by "a bunch of punks". I laughed it off as them being older but they told me that they were basically encouraged to GTFO by the MOD team (not singling anyone out on the team)...one example is a member called KeithB.
So now, we have Tokay444...an obviously older, technical guy with very little patience for BS. Just like MBNTO says, I'm not sticking up for him, but let's look at the other side of the issue...each and everyday, we try to disseminate truths and helpful advise on these very walls...the last thing we need is a technical thread, where half of it is spent explaining to someone that we don't drive the same car, and why it's different. Just like everyday advise about life, you gotta back up what you say, and if you can't do that with personal experience, you're just creating more noise and taking time and evergy away from the cause: helping others.
Yet those individuals that take time and energy away from the very work that we do are applauded and patted on their backs for all the "funny" disruptions that they consistently deliver...am I missing something here?
TM3 has blossomed nicely, and I'm happy that its members get along not just from the technical information shared, but also the comaraderie and frienships formed on and off line. However, it just seems lately, that focus is turning TM3 into some sort of popularity club and those who don't fit the mould...can GTFO?
Should we all be know-it-all 20-yr olds posting T&A pics, and high-fiving each other in the sightings thread and the Friday thread, while basically trolling and posting, "Hey my buddy drives a 400whp turbo'd Civic...maybe you should go get V-tak'd instead..." in the MS3 section...and most likely in a suspension thread...lol...
Or "Hey, why don't you MS3's get this or that intake...it doesn't matter if it makes power, it makes my car sound so cool..."...then cry when they get back-handed.
My suggestion: colour code or auto-tag threads started in the MS3 section. Like any forum, anyone can comment and share their opinion, at your own peril.

Couple quick comments on Fobio's post. What has not been posted publicly is Tokay44's pm's back and forth with two separate moderators. The first issue was his thread about creating products FS. This was effectively him trying to gauge interest. A moderator correctly pointed out to him, that should he proceed down this path, he would need to become a sponsor. The plan was to leave his post/thread and allow him to gauge interest prior to asking him to spend the money on sponsorship. However, he responded in a very rude and sarcastic manner to the moderator by saying "Look out. Here come the fuzz". The moderator then pm'd him with some clarification, and again was met with a hostile and rude response. His constant theme was the moderators and members of TM3 had to earn his respect. Unfortunately, it does not work that way. We expect all members to be respectful of other members, and moderators. If a member has been on the forum for a longer period of time, we try and cut some slack where possible.
At that point we shut down his thread.
He then created another post, saying he had not broken any rules, and insulting the moderator again, despite being previously warned that day to please be a little more respectful. As well, he had already served a 7 day ban for similar behaviour. In fact he had broken several rules.
On top of everything else he essentially threatened a different moderator saying "see you at the next meet buddy". He was clearly trying to intimidate the moderator with that message.
Thus, it was not just one or two incidents that lead to Tokay44 being permanently banned, it was a repeated pattern of behaviour, and repeated and ongoing rules violations.
As for the idea of "colour code or auto-tag threads started in the MS3 section. Like any forum, anyone can comment and share their opinion, at your own peril." . I am very much against that. Members who have Speed3's shoudl not be subjected to a different set of rules, simply because of the cars they drive. Torontomazda3 is founded on members helping other members, sharing knowledge learned, and a common interest. If we allow the MS3 section to become a post at your own risk section, that would be a very intimidating entrance for new members to this forum.
That would ultimately lead to a negative perception of the TM3/MS3 community, and thus TM3 as a whole.

I don't see how "road signs" that help the noobs steer away from the deep end is a bad thing...they do it at the local pool! Most of them in condo's also tell you that no lifeguards are present...watch your kids.
So from what you're saying, to protect the noobs, let's keep the life guards around the deep end?
I don't think this is a matter of MS3 vs the world...as this issue has been framed from time and memorial on TM3. I'm suggesting methods to keep the life guards looking good while keeping their work load minimized and prioritized evenly across TM3, as opposed to fueling the need to excessively moderate MS3 sections for the sake of the noobs but not for the sake of the guy who's in here to share and get at direct, uncoloured technical info?
With respect to Tokay444, I was not aware that he was making personal threats at the mods. Personally speaking, I can see where he rubs ppl the wrong way, such as some of his posts on MSF.org, and posting on TM3 as if he's on MSF.org. Obviously,we're not social workers, but in the future, there may also be opportunities to help "reform" some of these guys, who otherwise, can add tremendous value to forum. In that sense, the comaraderie and friendship that we can provide to these individuals may be greater than any technical advise we can share with them.
In the meantime, life goes on until the next anomaly comes along...
EDIT: The colour code thing...has much wider implication than the MS3's...as the GEN2 proliferate, with inevitability of another Gen coming, this may also be a good way to organize TM3 as technical and appearance info begin to branch away from a common model.

Fobio,
Regardless of his actual profession, where exactly are you deriving this notion that Tokay444 was a 'techie' and had a wealth of great info and "tremendous value" to contribute to the TM3 community and the MS3 forum specifically?
First, he had zero interest in this community, or any respect for any of the people in it, including the mod team. He demonstrated this time and time again and even said it directly, despite several warnings.
Second, he essentially post whored the MS3 threads with one sentence nonsense adding little in the way of any value. If it went beyond one or two sentences, it was mainly to disagree with other members and beat them over the head as to why his opinion was correct and superior and to belittle anyone who heaven forbid, would disagree with him.
I encourage you to go to his member profile and read every single one of his posts on this site and tell me if he was contributing in any way shape or form to the betterment of TM3 or the MS3.
I'm sorry, but as Ami already pointed out, there was a lot of PM and non-posted dialogue that happened as well. End result is the guy was a complete douchebag and we don't need him on this site, end of story.

however, after what transpired in that case, to have another moderator respond in a disrespectful manner to a member is hypocritical to the rules the mod team are trying to uphold.

Fobio was referring to threads like this (http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?53137-Need-intake-advice&p=761427&viewfull=1#post761427) where Mazdy may have been trying to be helpful but posted in the wrong section.
There have been other times where others (non-MS3 owners) have posted a pointless response to a technical question in a MS3-specific thread, only to state that they didn't know it was a MS3-specific question because they only view the "New Posts" and don't pay attention to what section that new post is in...if they can't read, then maybe colours would help them differentiate the section
there is nothing wrong with non-MS3 owners posting in the MS3 section; however, when the thread is asking a specific technical question, the non-MS3 owner should not post gibberish just to increase their post count to achieve some sort of relevance.

This I agree is a challenge/problem. The mod team is in the beginning stages of a composition change. Once we have a few changes over the next few weeks, there are a few areas we will be focusing on more regularly. One being members generally posting off topic comments in technical threads. This occurs in both the MS3 section, and regular 3 sections.
In the interim, I will do my best to personally keep an eye on MS3 technical threads to keep them clean. If I do miss something, or you feel something should be addressed/cleaned up, feel free to pm me or any other mod you see online.

In terms of reforming members, this is always a possibility. There have been occasions were banned individuals were contrite, and apologetic, and sent an email to the webmaster account. In those situations, the moderators have discussed, and usually brought the members back with another chance.

He, that shall no longer be named, like I said, was just the catalyst that brought to light some on-going issues. (You know Tokay444 isn't me right?) I'm not defending his actions. He did not engage the board respectfully and when cautioned turned it up a notch to the powers that be. I get that.
My point is that having established ourselves as the current fastest production Mazda, it is inevitable you'll have some egos in this forum, like any others. To put it bluntly, Tokay444 was posting like he was posting to THE INTERNET, as if we're all robots. He might not have resorted to all the "respect" stuff if he was engaged initially like a person..."Hey man, how's it going..."
But let us move on...this isn't about HIM.
If I do miss something, or you feel something should be addressed/cleaned up, feel free to pm me or any other mod you see online.
...and most who believe that the MOD team are the best of us, may also take the actions and the words of MOD with more weight...something to think about now for noob mods, with more power comes more responsibilities...and we'll be more than happy to self-police, if you guys need the help!

Fair enough Vince. I'll drop it regarding Tokay. Just not a fan of him being used as a lightning rod for other issues.
Not to change the subject, but I was meaning to post this earlier... Anyone with 2010 MS3 stock wheels should definitely go after market. I'm back on my Work wheels for the first time since getting tuned and wow... The 2010's are heavy as hell!

Finally feel comfortable posting in this section. As I said in the latest purchase thread on Friday, I just got a 2007 MS3. Taking a bit getting used to (never drove manual before) but looking forward to reading up on your guys experience with the car.
That being said, if anyone is ever out by the west end (Burlington/Oakville) and would be willing to give some pointers on getting the most out of it, I'd appreciate it :)

Should have dropped by Krown Lakeshore!
but seriously, maybe get it Krowned if it hasn't been already. RMM is a must-have upgrade on these cars too. Did your speed 3 come with a fresh oil change from the dealer (synthetic 5W-30, not Mobil One)?

Yeah, had a kinda annoying headache that early on Saturday plus still wasn't too confident learning the car yet :chuckle
Might have to wait on getting krowned and will have to look at RMM. I'm trying to get used to it stock first before doing anything major.
I'll have to email the dealer to find out about that one but it's due in terms of KM soon anyways so if it hadn't, I'll probably do it before I go to Ohio in June.

Is the clutch takeup point for the 1st gen the same as the 2nd gen? I mean, did you find it a bit abrupt at first? For Krown, it's best to do it in the early spring when most corrosion really starts (warmer temps, wetter weather), and as for RMM it makes a significant difference in the way the car shifts. So you can get used to it while it's still in stock form, but you'll find it will feel like it shifts better after the RMM is in.
Yeah, I'd probably get the oil change sooner than later, it doesn't matter if the car is 'new' like mine, or used like yours. When I got my speed 3 from the dealer, it was stated that an oil change had been done on it. I checked the oil dipstick and the oil did look fresh, but it was still the semi-synthetic stuff mind you. I still intended to change the oil after 1500km, and in doing so brought it to Jimmy. We found out that a factory FoMoCo filter (black filter) was still there - implying that the factory FoMoCo filter had been on the car since its build date over a year ago. Unless they have a supply of fresh factory filters sitting around (which I doubt), I think they simply drained the oil and replaced it with new oil. It just seems to me that they should have replaced the filter, knowing the build date on my car. Oh, and the PDI guys missed 2 beehives - one in the intercooler hood scoop, another in the front passenger door hinges.
Go read the oil thread on here and go with one of the listed oils (I use pennzoil platinum 5W-30 because it has been shown to resist fuel dilution) and a good oil filter. More stuff off the top of my head...brand of gas is a personal choice, but I am now using Shell V-power for the 0% ethanol and the supposed nitrogen enriched cleaning stuff, which is also supposed to be better for direct-injected engines. Oh and add yourself to the MS3 registry!

Hmmm...good info. Will take a look into it all. Though I need to cut off spending for a bit to get a handle on things (unless stuff I will be selling soon sells fast).
I used to use 0w30 in my 08.5 GT and was happy with that. Might use that again in this one. Gas, I use PetroCan as it's easy access to me and with my citibank petro canada mastercard, I get 2cents off a liter which helps a bit.
Not sure if the clutch takeup point is the same. This is my first manual car so I'm learning in the first place so not sure how much help I'd be in that respect :chuckle

As long as the 0W-30 is a good synthetic oil (not Mobil One), I think you'll be ok. I wouldn't use dino or semi-synth for a turbo car. I have a costco amex, 2% off shell gas purchase is about equal to 2cents or higher per litre (since a percentage off gas purchases will ramp up as gas prices increase, while a fixed 2cents/litre will always remain 2 cents). I just filled up with 35L last night and paid $51. That's $1.02 I'll get as cashback. $1.02 / 35 = 0.029, which is 2.9 cents per litre I saved :)
As a side note, I calculated 9.7L/100km with 90% highway, the remaining 10% spent in the city, with a fair bit of spirited boosting at unnamed locations :P

0w30 is the German Castrol...so no, not Mobile One and is a full synthetic.
Still, 2 cents off a liter is still something at least. Just filled up this morning so I can gauge mileage vs my old 3. I figure if I get used to stock, I can see the difference (if any) adding mods does. Though based on my old shift knob in my auto, I know a bit heavier of a shift knob might benefit me...though still looking.

I think that if you don't use boost at all, and shift out of 1st/2nd/3rd as soon as safely possible (without lugging the engine, you'll get a feel for it) you'll see very similar or slightly better fuel economy despite the car having a turbo.
I used to have a 2007 Mazda 3 GT, and my in-town fuel economy is very similar, or at least I don't notice the Speed 3 guzzling gas at a greater rate than my old car. They are both 2.3L engines after all, and the Speed 3's is direct-injected. Cruising around town in 4th is where it's at. Using cruise control on the highway is also a good idea.
But make sure you tap into the Dark Side every now and then, your car begs for it!
Yeah, I understand your reasoning, get a feel for stock and see what difference mods make. I know that when I got the CPE RMM installed, the vibes in-cabin went up and the A/C shook the steering wheel. It has since broken in and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Same for the JBR knob, the stock is pretty decent but at 265 grams it is a bit light. The JBR looks very much at home in my car (not a gaudy MOMO knob with useless little scalloped cutouts and design elements), the bevelled top and plastic-covered shift pattern are comfortable, and the circumferential rings add grip so that it doesn't slip out of your fingers.

Yeah, depending on the speed, I've been finding the right gear I think. 6th most of the drive on the highway, 5th if it dips a bit too low in speed, 4th most other places. So far my issues are the occasional stalling when starting as I haven't fully gotten the feel of it yet (that and the car jerking when starting when I don't stall it). Getting the hang of it pretty well considering I only really started learning Friday afternoon.
That said, I do enjoy tapping into the dark side so no issues there once I get the hang of things.
Might just break down and get that gear knob anyways. But I noticed it had a warning when first installing it...did you have any issues? I looked online to see the instructions and the fact it warns you you could damage things if you don't work it back and forth well enough is making me double guess myself. Unless you'd want to help me with this and then you could see the difference between 1st and 2nd gen? :D

I wouldn't worry at all about the warning as long as you follow the instructions carefully. If you simply put the aluminum adapter on the shifter rod and start wrenching it into place without using oil, and without working it back and forth, the heat buildup and the aluminum shavings could cause damage.
It's very easy, really, and there is no danger if you do it properly. Get some machine oil (I used sewing machine oil, or something equivalent) and put a little bit on the inside of the adapter, then work the oil into the threads. Screw the adapter onto the shifter rod by hand until you encounter resistance. Put a drop of oil into the top of the adapter. Using your 6 point wrench, start tightening the adapter until you start to reach resistance, then back it off by about half a turn. Repeat this process a few times, adding new oil to the top of the adapter hole after a little while. You'll want to bring a paper towel because you want to keep adding oil constantly, you're cutting new grooves into the aluminum adapter and the oil is essential for lubrication.
The ultimate goal is to get the adapter down on the shifter rod *just* low enough that the top of the shifter rod pokes out a little bit over the adapter hole. This will take about 10 - 20 min, carefully working the adapter back and forth. There is nothing complicated at all about this procedure, just take your time to do it carefully and you'll be ok.
Once the adapter is in the correct position, start turning the jamb nut on the knob until it is all the way inside, then use a big flathead screwdriver to turn it the rest of the way. Screw the shift knob onto the adapter until it is snug, but do NOT use any hard pressure to tighten it. The jamb nut on the inside controls how far down you can screw the shift knob, and you will need to adjust it one way or the other in order to get the shift pattern lined up in the final position. Once it is in the final tilted position (tilted up to the right by a little bit), complete the procedure by applying hard pressure to tighten the knob into place, which aligns the shift pattern and locks the jamb nut against the adapter.
Honestly, JBR's instructions are extremely straightforward, and his warning is a disclaimer against people who simply tighten the adapter without working it back and forth.

Shift at 5500 rpm if you're stock or else the car will fall flat on it's face.
Has anyone bought any CP-E SRI intakes that they haven't installed yet, or are looking to get rid of? I'm in need of an intake ASAP and if you bought one and haven't installed it yet, can I buy it off/order you a replacement?
Crisis averted for now. =) No longer need the intake... Thanks to everyone that PM'd me!

Lol, I almost drag my knee on that corner coming back up the hill on my buddy's 250 (bike). Also the corner just on the top on the way up where the cement barriers are. People like to cut that corner at the top coming down the hill towards the hairpin in cars, though. Gets my heart going when I'm in a full lean a couple inches from the ground and I see someone in a car coming right at me who can't stay inside the lines.

Yeah I looked closely just now, they're aftermarket.
Btw, the JBR shift knob is correctly installed, it's the stock rod that's the source of the slight play. If you hold the very base if the rod (there's a circular collar right at the very bottom) and twist the knob gently, you'll see what I mean. In other words it's fine. I'm considering JBR shift bushings next, to improve the shift feel and make it less sloppy.

Well, I'm probably completely off...but if it's linear and you do 325/266 you get ~1.2218...so 292 * 1.2218 = ~356.7656

ok, here's some non-ricer math to back things up :)
according to Garrett's site (http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/tech_center/turbo_tech103.html), "What is my mass flow rate? As a very general rule, turbocharged gasoline engines will generate 9.5-10.5 horsepower (as measured at the flywheel) for each lb/min of airflow"
converting 266 g/s into lbs/min is 35.186 lbs/min ....325 / 35.186 = 9.2367 conversion from lbs/min to whp
292 g/s is 38.625 lbs/min .... 38.625 lbs/min * 9.2367 = 356.77 whp ... ~357 whp ;)

So my MS3 is going to be sitting in the underground parking for a while. Quite a while. Probably at least 2.5 years. I was going to leave the battery unhooked and put my winter tires on because they are toast anyway, I don't care if they flat spot. I was also going to turn on the car every week or two, let it warm up fully, drive it around the underground a bit just to get things moving.
Does anyone have any special advice on what I can do to keep it in optimal running condition for when I decide to insure it again? If all goes to plan it should be off insurance by June 14th. It will be sitting there for 2.5 years because that is the remainder of the loan on the car. I plan to insure and drive it again once it is all paid off.

What the rational behind your decision? Probably better to sell the car, and buy another in 2.5 years as these dont really hold value.

Can't sell a car with a lien on it, and I don't want to. I'm asking for any special advice pertaining to parking the MS3 specifically, not advice on my decisions.

Hey Al, sorry to hear you have to park the car.Anyways heres some suggestions; One; I'm going to assume you will keep atleast fire and theft on the vehicle, this will also keep your policy 'active'.As for the actual car;
-Have it oil-sprayed (Krowned), if not already.Underground parking is bad for moisture build-up.
-Fill the gas tank and add fuel stabilizer and injector cleaner to the mix. This will prevent any water build up.
-Fresh engine oil.
-Make sure your engine coolant is good i.e; not acidic.(Check periodically)
-Couple coats of wax on all painted surfaces.
-Lube all hinges, door latches periodically.
-Remove/replace and clean your battery posts and connections at your starter; cover them good with Grease to prevent corrosion.
-Set the pressure several pounds higher for your tires.
-Start her up periodically and when able drive her around the underground to get the engine up to operating temp and also get wheel bearings, brakes etc, warmed up.
-Prep all the rubber seals; windows, doors, hatch etc;
Thats just things I can think of, off the top of my head.
Hope it helps.

Leave it in gear when storing it, don't use the parking brake because it will seize. If possible, stick a car cover on it. The side of the car that faces the entrance/exit will see more rust on the brakes then the other side, so it's best to just cover it.
I've heard that starting the car periodically is actually worse for it.
If you can, throw it up on jack stands. Your suspension will thank you.

I've heard that starting the car periodically is actually worse for it.
I heard the same thing. It was in a Road & Track or something about storing cars. Increased wear for the engine and if not let warm up fully (meaning hot oil, coolant and exhaust), would help to introduce moisture and fuel into the oil and exhaust system. Cars need time at these tempuratues to burn this moisture off. Something to look into anyways.
I understand the need to get the brakes and bearings and everything moving, but in an underground parking garage the brakes should at least stay dry.

sorry to hear man, you got screwed when you bought the car. Best thing you could of done was to get it caught on fire or stolen and have inssurance pay it off for you... Live and Learn buddy.

Your right, if one starts the vehicle you must keep it running till the engine reaches operating temperature and then some.Thats why I suggested driving it around in the underground i.e. Under-Load.This helps in everything getting properly lubed and heated.Don't drive it for 2 1/2 years and you'll be changing out shit like crazy once you do start driving, thats guaranteed.I've stored several vehicles over the years and never had an issue with starting and running the vehicle periodically. But again it must be stressed let it get hot and it doesn't hurt to rev her up a bit ;).
Oh and oil will still need to be replaced periodically, use synthetic and the periods can be stretched abit.
_3
From my experience with storing motorcycles everything Flagrum said is what I'd suggest except for starting it up. Everything I've read and heard says to just let her sit once you've done the prep work and not start it up...the reality is your never gonna get it up to temp driving around an underground.
+1 on the cover defiantly something u want if it's going to be that long.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I don't really have money to buy anything at all, including a car cover. This is part of the reason I'm doing this car switch now that I can, to save money and get my debt dealt with.
As for starting the car, I did plan to drive it around the underground and above ground when I did turn it on and move it every couple weeks, full throttle first and second I can get to 65-70 km/h in the above ground parking lot, haha. :P
Anyone curious as to what I got? I'm paying anywhere from $500-700 for it I'm guessing, my friend hasn't told me a price yet. He just wants to throw me a hundred or two in the following months when I can as he really doesn't care about it.

1st: 3500-3700 rpm going ~30-35
3rd engages at 1700-1900
Anything wrong with this? I've just found that 2nd is kind of pointless and is just an extra shift. The car doesn't bog when I shift into even the lower part of the rpm range into 3rd (lowest I go to ever is 1600 or so) and it just removes the extra clutch and shift going a speed and gear that I won't be maintaining.
PS: this only applies to driving on the street!! obviously if I'm driving through a gas station I won't go 1st-3rd but if I know I need to reach 60KM/hr going from light to light I just go 1st-3rd.

Does anyone else here skip 2nd gear on a regular basis? I started to recently because I got kind of annoyed with shifting into 2nd to be honest. Here's how I see and please someone correct me if I'm wrong:
How I used to drive:
1st: shift at 2800 going ~20
2nd: shift 2800 going ~40
3rd engages at 1900 rpm.
How I drive now:
1st: 3500-3700 rpm going ~30-35
3rd engages at 1700-1900

3500rpm on 1st will kill you a lot of gas if you do that all the timem not sure why you do that.

To have fun and to burn a little rubber. :chuckle I think his second gear is giving him problems before so that could be part of the reason..
@curlyface: Personally, I like the extra gear (not in stop and go traffic though). :) As for your question, well, I've not done it really but seeing that our cars have close gear ratios, why not???? Somebody, please chime in! :)
As a few of you already know, I got rid of my Speed 3 =)
I took advantage of a great deal that I couldn't pass up. I'm not going anywhere, so I'll still be involved in the local meets (There's still a Mazda in the garage, after all ;)

I went and checked these rims out at lunch today. What a waste of time. 2 of the rims are bent and curbed, and they are possibly fake. While most of them had the work stickers on them (or what was left of them), they weren't stamped with the WORK logo anywhere on the wheels. Just a "made in japan". I don't know if all CR Kai's do or do not have the logo stamped, but I passed on them the minute I saw they were bent to shit.
The dude's place was a disgusting mess to boot. That's an hour of my life I won't be getting back...
The search continues!
I know this is 6 months late, but yes: authentic works have work stamped into them.
^ Yes they do. My authentic work

M3 sounds cooler than 1M though....

Hah, thanks guys! It's white... I really dig the orange though!
For anyone on the fence about the big turbo....... I test drove a 335i, M3, 135i and now my 1M and they all felt slower then my speed3! (No word of a lie). A properly tuned and upgraded speed3 will ruin most cars for you..... :(

They should have called it M1, granted enthusiasts would have been up in arms, but the Dodge Charger has seemingly done well and 99.9% of people would not even know of a mid-engined BMW that started its life with Lamborghini.

Ok let me rephrase, I want the dashhawk and the cp-e dashhawk mount. So let's figure out a price and I'll come and get it, I'm not worried about the condition of the items since I figure you're just like me and take good care of your toys. Loki, let me do some research on it...but I'll hold it for you anyway. I just haven't looked into what these items go for and I want to give everyone fair pricing.
Mr. Wilson: Don't get me started on the M1 debate... LOL. They seem to love changing their naming convention, it's really stupid if you ask me! There's talk of the 3 series becoming 4, 1 series becoming 2, or maybe even a new 2... Oy. Why can't they just keep it simple and consistent...

Looks like the same tray from the normal Mazda 3's.
It is. I had to trim the area near the shock towers to make them fit... The tray cost me something like $350 for all 3 pieces, plus a new spare tire bolt since you get rid of the foam piece that elevates the spare tire (I need to confirm with Joe what my cost was)

Hehe, seems like women all think the same way.. My GF is ok with the stuff that I bought so far because they're small amounts only. I always say that, "These things will make the car better." Notice how vague that statement is... Like the tints, helps block the sunlight especially on a sunny day... The intake, will make the car run better and efficiently... The tow plate, I couldn't think of any BS so I just said it makes the car looks good (she says otherwise though)... The caliper paint, prevent rusting... Winter tires are ok because they're for safety...
So now, I'm in the process of devising a statement that will justify an AP and suspension that is absolutely fool proof and will just get a "nod" when I deliver it. :chuckle
