View Full Version : General consensus on (whether to get) extended warranty?

This is the plan I was looking at, out of the several that were offered:
NC6120 - 72 months / 120,000 km - $1875.00
(This also bumps up the power train to the same length of time/mileage)
$1875 x 1.13 = $2118.75 / 6 years @ 0% financing = $29.42/month or $353.12/year
My finance term is 6 years at 0%, coincidentally. Simple question... is it worth it, and why am I hearing that it's especially important for a turbo car?

I picked up the 48month/100,000km MAP ($645 option) when I got my 2010 ms3. It's nice not to have to worry quite as much, and all it really takes is one repair in that extra year of coverage I got to make it worth while. Lots of threads discussing it, do a search.

I just used my MAF to fix a rust issue. Some dealer will give you an headache for it (aka Ontario Mazda), but the 21xx or so, you bascially paying for the 2 years after basic warranty expired....so is more like 1k per year if my math is correct.
My 07 is now 39 months now with 57k km...not major mechanical issue, only changed a 02 sensor once and fixed a spot of rust on the hatch and I drive my car hard. lol.

That option is gone unfortunately :( I did look and find that one thread specifically about the MS3 and extended warranty, unfortunately again, I saw a rough 60/40 split on who went with the warranty, and who didn't. I also looked on other forums and saw the same rough split.

Yeah, in my case, it would work out to $702 a year after the base 3 year/80,000 is done. So (knock on wood) I'd need to do $702 of warranty repair for those 3 years to 'break even', and it would more than pay for itself if I have to do anything major.
argh.

I wouldn't buy it (my MAF was paid from the 1st owner, not me). After 3 years, you can always find a good mechanic and repair it at cheaper cost than dealership.

Actually it is 3 years of additional Comprehensive and 1 additional year of Powertrain... also 3 additional years of Roadside assistance...
