Last year (yesterday!) I bought a 2007 GT sedan from a Mazda dealer here in Brampton . It came with two keys to unlock the doors manually, but there was only one remote control which locks and unlocks the doors and also acts as a remote starter. It is a Mazda product and seems to have been bought with the car.
I think this means that the alarm cannot be set or easily disarmed without the one remote I have, so it will be a bit of a pain when my wife uses the car, especially if it is alarmed and I am out.
Will I need to go back to the dealer to buy another remote, or can I get one more cheaply from elsewhere and programme it or do whatever else I need to do to get it to work myself? I am not fussed about it including a second remote starter, though I suppose it is likely to be included with whatever I need to buy and do.
Any thoughts, please, anyone...?

the dealer will have to supply you a remote for the car unless you can find one somewhere else.
However with it being a oem accessory you should be able to disarm and arm the alarm with the key by unlocking and locking the door as if it is a true acessory then it is directly tied in to the system.
Can you post up a pic as to what kind of remote you have?
Some of the "dealer accessory" remote starters were outsourced to 3rd party sources and were not original parts.

I am posting this from my mobile phone, but I hope this is a picture of the remote control.
I did try locking the car with the remote and then to unlock it with the key, but that sets off the alarm. The manual for the remote says that will happen. I guess I'll just have to go to the dealer and fork out whatever a new remote costs. Any idea, off-hand, on what sort of cost it might be?

That is a oem remote start
If you just bought the car from a Mazda dealer I would tell them what the problem is and they should replace the remote for you for free:)

Thank you. The manual for the remote start system says that using the standard key will set off the alarm, so I don't think it's a fault.
I think the dealer said that the alarm on one of the 3s we looked at was armed by locking with the key and disarmed by unlocking with the key, but that car didn't have remote central locking.
So, I think we will just have to buy another remote if Mrs Sushidushi is to drive the car. Hmmm...
Something is wrong cause my sister inlaw car has factory alarm and oem remote start that I bought her last year for Christmas and she never had any issues with alarm going off

The '04-'09 OEM remote-start is an add-on module that has it's own alarm in addition to the built-in one. Unlocking the door with the key only disables the built-in alarm, not the the remote-start's one. So if you lock the door with the central-locking switch on the door you can unlock with the key and not set an alarm off. If you lock the door with the remote-start FOB you have to unlock with the the same FOB.

I have just ordered that from eBay. Thank you - and to others. I'll let you know if it works...!

It works! I have just posted elsewhere to thank Noisy Crow for some old advice from omeone on how to program the fob with the remote starter. The link that the eBay vendor sent only had instructions for the other fob. And thanks again to McGuyver_3 for the link to the eBay site.
Yep, I am pretty pleased that I now have another remote starter fob - and that it only cost me $40 all-in.
One quick further question. The manual for the remote starter says that you can use the remote starter to turn on the rear defroster if you push the 'Start' button again once the engine has been started using the remote. This doesn't work - on the original fob or the new one. It is certainly no big deal to press the button once in the car, but it would be good to have, if possible. The instructions seem to be clear, but am I missing something obvious, please...?

Dont quote me on this one but i beleive that was another hook up that had to be made when the starter was originally installed. Talk to Joe aka flipdaddy. He had the remote starter from mazda in his previous hatch. If i remember correctly his was working with the rear defroster
