As of March 16, 2011, Rogers will be increasing the per-message text message rate and all non-premium message rate to $0.20 from $0.15 per sent and received message.

I'm sure the other carriers will follow soon.....

I think most people here are on a text messaging plan so this doesn't really apply to most. :)

I am more happy than upset about this, It'll make those who refuse to get a text package to do so. Like seriously, I realize you may not like it but the majority of the world prefers to text than pick up a phone and dial for a 20 second conversation that'll stretch into 10 minutes because of formalities.

Makes it that much more compelling to ditch rogers and go with a new company.
I've switched to Mobilicity $35 unlimited plan back in November and haven't looked back.

This is probably good for some people who don't have a text plan yet since receiving msgs costs $$ nowadays.
It's hard to control who's going to text you.

Any cost going up for no reason is stupid. For those of you who are happy about this, I hope your happy when they increase the text messaging plan cost also for no reason.

Meh. The ridiculous prices charged by the big companies (and their re-branded stuff like Fido), are totally screwing the customers. I moved to Mobilicity. Wind and Public mobile are alternatives. Keep in mind, you may need a new phone (1700 AWS band required)
Oh, and I find it absolutely ridiculous that it's "standard" to pay for things you receive, including text messages. Sure, you should pay for stuff you send, but to pay for stuff you receive is ridiculous.
