Ok...so here's the deal...the wife and I go looking to pick up a new digital camera tonight...and i'm not going to lie...when i bought my last camera about 6 years ago things were so much simpler, today things seemed a little over my head.

so instead of taking the advice of a pain in ass sales person, i come to you...

We're looking for something that is basic point and shoot, but also capable of doing high speed shots from race tracks and what not. We're looking at spending up to $450...

So here's what we narrowed it down to....

Sony Cyber Shot 14.1mp $279.99 (http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/sony-sony-cyber-shot-dsch55b-14-1mp-digital-camera-black-dsch55b/10142045.aspx?path=0c589a818933018b3b9c5f6813e153b ben02)

Cannon Powershot 12.1mp $279.99 (http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/canon-canon-powershot-12-1mp-digital-camera-sx130is-black-sx130/10154264.aspx?path=daa8d8e56f29567d0ceb8be037d24bf 2en02)

Cannon Powershot 12.1 $349.99 (http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/canon-powershot-sx20is-12-1mp-digital-camera-black/10129620.aspx?path=c60fe7bc5af6afd6292eae8f3d70dd5 1en02)

Cannon Powershot 14.1mp $419.99 (http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/canon-canon-powershot-sx30-is-14-1mp-digital-camera-sx30/10156032.aspx?path=880b61925f385b7aec082e33fe9f159 ben02)

Nikon Coolpix 12.1 $199.99 (http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/nikon-nikon-coolpix-l110-12-1mp-digital-camera-black-l110-black/10140115.aspx?path=4dc08a67e5c1406d0cfd9f4293878da fen02)

Olympus 12mp $149.99 (http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/olympus-olympus-12mp-digital-camera-sp-600uz-227670/10142444.aspx?path=73877e3ee5e8641add8a24617c3444a 0en02)

Samsung 14mp $299.99 (http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/samsung-samsung-14mp-digital-camera-wb600-grey-ec-wb600-grey/10140920.aspx?path=d3a8fff88593177636526479b2aba59 0en02)

I would go with the $349 Canon 12.1 Powershot. Why? Nice lens, has optical image stabilization for clearer pictures, fairly compact, HD lite 720. Nice camera for the price. Stay away from the Sonys. Not a fan - have one but not good imho.

Canon makes great point and shoot cameras, I'd stay away from Sony. They are overpriced and don't deliver much from experience.

I'd get this if I were you.

The reason why is suggested the EP1 is because of your budget. Otherwise I have would have suggested the EP2.

Great camera!!

Great camera!!

I think four thirds lens cameras are great. I have one but a bit over their budget. Yes, some of these smaller interchangeable lenses are great. I have the Panasonic Lumix (close to your TM3 name lol) G10. I think I saw it on sale at the Yonge and Dundas future shop for $499 but on the Future website for $599. But additional lenses are a bit more expensive than the Olympus. There are also more variety of Olympus lenses.

I've got a powershot and its my 2nd upgrade. Love it for the features it offers: Auto, Shutter Priority, Aperature Priority, Manual Mode, etc
Also the one thing I like is that it takes standard AA batteries which you can pick up anywhere. Try getting batteries for the Sony if you're in a small town and you forget the charger...

Go with a Canon PowerShot, they are fantastic little PAS cameras. They'll have pretty much everything you need and want. And the image quality is great.

Ended up going with the Cannon Powershot SX20 IS...$349.99 at Best Buy....Found it for $299 at Blacks. It's a demo model has a small nick in it and no lens cover...but i was able to get them to throw in a $30 Memory Card with some haggling. I'm not going to lie, the 20x optical zoom with the wide angle lens it's pretty cool.

Excellent camera in that price range. Great deal too. Post some pics when you get a chance in the 'show off your photography skills' section.
Here's a good riddle: what shoots people but doesn't kill. Sorry a bit random.
