Hi Guys

I saw that SU released a new Rear Engine Mounting
http://www.streetunit.com/v/vspfiles/photos/SUM3AMM1PU-2.jpg

Has anyone purchased these mountings? Feedback will be appreciated, as I would really want to purchase a rear engine mounting now, but would like to purchase the right one the first time:thumbsup

Thanx!

I think I read that one as being refurbished. Wouldn't wast my time to save 30 bucks. Sure and CP-e seem to be dominating that market right now. Your choices are, hard or soft and rubber or urathane.

no more feedback on this?

how hard is to get hold of a CP-e mount?

if I was looking for a new RMM, I'd chk out JBR's 2 choices...JBarone Racing...

Jamie also said he was coming out with side motor mounts pretty soon too. Might be a nice, less expensive alternative to the CPE wallet-raping ones.

I think any of the 1 piece mounts (CPe, the new SU, JBR, Sure) they are all going to be very compairable. All of them will help with wheel hop and the like, I think its going to come down to the duro amount on each mount to see how much vibration you get.

You'll be fine with which ever you get.

btw I have a 75 duro CPE RMM, just installed last Sat. Minimal vibrations on startup, idle and driving. Lots of noticeable vibration when the A/C is on, but meh. I like the more raw and aggressive feeling anyway. Much less clunking now during shifts, and definitely one of the first things any MS3 owner should do.

To OP, have you seen the stock motor mount? It's a crappy flange of metal holding a soft rubber bushing with triangle-shaped cut-outs, it was designed for the least NVH - I get that - but damn is it a POS.

Tokay444
04-14-2011, 02:54 PM
Are you counting the bushings as one piece or the frame. The way I see them they're all at the very least 3 pieces. 4 if you have a split/sandwich bushings. My sure rmm and ingalls torque damper have done nothing for wheel hop. I hear the trz tranny mount is the best at completely eliminating it though. That will be my next buy. Hear it's loud though...

Fobio
04-14-2011, 03:32 PM
the CP-e style is considered a 1-piece...the TRZ is considered a dog-bone...the older SU one is definitely 2-piece.

with regards to vibes, I recommend raising idle to 900rpm with ATR/AP. there are many reasons for doing this, and the most noticeable is eliminating some harsh idle vibes...I think stock, the car idles 600 - 750 rpm...

I have the older SU 2-piece RMM and it works great. Any of the single pieces would be the best choice to go with now.

I'm thinking about getting the CPE 75 duro as well. Just how bad is the vibration when the AC is on? If it's really bad I don't think my wife will appreciate the 'upgrade' much.

Btw, did you purchase it off the CPE website? Where did you get it installed?

Elusivellama
04-15-2011, 12:17 PM
Like I said, it's still breaking in and I expect the vibrations to decrease after a month or two. But right now, startup idle and driving are a bit rougher and fine, but turn the ac on and your steering wheel will actually shake. Not a lot, but it is noticeable. You could always assure her that the mount is just wearing in, but the initial reaction is most likely going to be of fear :D

Also I got it installed at Jimmy's, it's a very simple procedure actually, I just decided to get it done at the same time as other service. Bought direct of CPE site, the prices there are just to discourage people from buying direct, they want you to buy from one of their dealers. I bought mine before the artificial price hike.

Sounds like it's a reasonable trade-off to get smoother shifts. The clunky shifting is really starting to bug me (my Civic SiR shifts like a dream compared to the MS3).

How much did you pay for it including tax and shipping?

I was looking at the dealer list and it it seems that the only dealer in the area is JRP. I guess I'll give them a call for a quote. I hope it'll be cheaper than getting it direct from CPE's website...

Now, don't get me wrong, the shifts are not absolutely smoothed out with a RMM, I think I would still need side mounts if I want it gone entirely, but like I said the clunking has been greatly reduced, I don't get that loud THUNK when I'm accelerating hard. A lot of it has to do with shift technique, and this car likes to be shifted up higher so that the revs dont drop too fast before you engage 2nd.

I don't remember the price anymore, it definitely isn't the price you see on CPE's website. They jacked it up a while ago because they want to discourage people from buying direct from them.

It helps for all shifts, I can definitely feel much less sloppiness whether shifting normally or when taking on-ramps at speed. The stock RMM is a joke, and its only reasons for being there on the MS3 are to cut down on noise/vibration/harshness and costs. Think about it this way ............ there are like 4 - 5 different RMMs on the market (CPE, JBR, SU, ???, ???), if it was an unessential upgrade you'd maybe see one manufacturer even bothering to make an aftermarket piece.

If you have a tuning device, running a slightly higher idle @ 900rpm will alleviate 90% of vibes at idle or with A/C on.

I just installed a 70 durometer billet aluminum James Barone last week and I'm loving it so far.

They also have an 80 durometer in the billet and a chrome-molly (wishbone) as well. $120 Shipped in the States and $130 to Canada. I'm close to Edmonton and I didn't pay a cent extra for GST, Duty, handling fees, etc. and I ordered a bunch of other stuff. I couldn't be happier with the products and the customer service I received.

Or if you wait a month like I did, the vibes tone down enough to be quite tolerable even with A/C on.

The only thing I noticed is that I can hear more of my transmission than I used to be able to. Right after Jimmy swapped the CPE mount in, I noticed that I could hear my 5th gear whining around 2k - 2.5k from 70km/h ~ 80km/h, and prior to that I never noticed it as much. I can also kind of hear my 1st gear whine if I push it past 3k, but that's a non issue because I don't redline it. This makes sense to me because the CPE mount is far more substantial and much stiffer than the stock piece of shit, thus it transmits more NVH. The 5th gear does not whine when I shift it at highway speeds or during fast driving... so that's fine with me.

besides, you're not screwing me over anything...I don't make any $ off this...just tired off ppl not getting their parts and having to settle for something lesser but available.

Fobio = $160 + $20 shipping = $180
Garage16 = $145 + $18.85 tax + $15 shipping + $1.95 tax on shipping = $180.80

So I suppose fobio is 80 cents cheaper...my bad? It's essentially the same and I'm supporting a forum sponser with a great reputation and helpful service. Besides I get 1% back on my credit card when I ordered lol so I'm actually only paying like $179 haha

My only comment is that posts like this aren't necessary. This applies especially to the classifieds section. If you find a better price somewhere else, it's not your job to broadcast to the entire forum, in someone else's thread, that there are better prices out there.

Most people on the forum generally research before buying something, so they know what's out there and don't usually just go making blind purchases. For the most part at least. It's just not called for to comment on it, even if you think it's an "oh by the way" type of comment.

If you absolutely feel the need to say something, make use of the PM function, and take your discussion behind closed doors in a more discreet manner.

I think $160 is a great price, and I appreciate that Fobio took the time to set this whole thing up and organize getting the part for me. He didn't have to do this, like he said what's the benefit to him except trying to help a couple people out by getting them a quality part for a reasonable price.

If you found a deal that works better for you, then go with it, but no need to make comments targeted at members on the public forum. Regardless of whether or not your intentions were bad, because I don't think you had bad intentions at all.

This is just my opinion. This goes for alot of people out there, so this comment is not targeted specifically at you.

SomeGuy
05-12-2011, 03:01 PM
I think they ARE necessary, personally I'd rather know (regardless of where the information comes from) about other details so that I may better weigh my options. This is related subject matter. It's not like I posted in here saying go to SU and get whatever ol' mount from them at $110...I posted an alternative for the identical part as an FYI.

Why must everyone on this forum always have a stick up their ass no matter what anyone posts? Disclaimer: "This is just my opinion. This goes for alot of people out there, so this comment is not targeted specifically at you."

Where's the beef? lol...

Comments from from both sides are welcomed. We in fact prefer to do local orders, and only offered the shipping option to help others out. I'm one of the biggest supporter of our sponsors, as can be seen by others.

Having said that, i wonder if you would have gotten your deal if not for our thread...I've been here long enough to wade through the BS...this kind of shit, doesn't even faze me...lol...

Glad to help all those that have benefitted from my chosen way to spend my extra time...
