Just wondering if anyone knows what exactly you can change without voiding any warranty? right have a 2010 MS3, of course its great as is but wouldn't mind doing a little to it at the least cold air. I know the down pipes are probably the biggest restriction but doubt I can swap those out.

Just hard to find any good posts on this if someone has some good info on what I can change that be great. I have looked up lots and know the benefits of changing this and that I just want info on what can be swapped, and still be able to drive in for regular maintenance with no questions.

Search and you will find some answers. IMO, if you aren't willing to void your warranty don't mod your car.

Welcome, as Donutz said, if you are worried about it don’t do it. There is a lot of information on here in regards to intakes and tube upgrades and over fuelling in the speed 3 so do your research prior to any mods. So if you can’t pay to fix it in the end don’t do it, not to mention at this point there isn’t even a Mazdaspeed intake for this vehicle for reasons you will find on here. If or when they release one then I would go for it

I'm in the same position as you (see my post in the mazdaspeed forum). I'm going in for my first scheduled service tomorrow and will be talking to the service manager to see how far I can go without affecting my warranty. That said, I put a CAI in my previous 3 while under warranty and it was always dealer serviced and they never gave me any trouble with it there. The service manager seemed like a bit of an enthusiast, had taken my car for a spin when I was having a wheel balance problem and complimented me on the sound/performance of the intake even...so I'm hoping I get away with a fair bit :)

So asked today while in for service about mods on the car and here's the run down for the things I might eventually do:

Intake/Inlet - No problem, nothing voided.
RMM - Preventative and improvement, so no problem.
BPV - Grey area since it affects the turbo, might be a problem.
CDFP - Grey area, pretty dangerous, probably a problem.
Acessport/Tune - Good bye entire powertrain warranty (including transmission) but remaining items (interior, etc) are still covered.

I never asked about exhaust side of things, but I'd surmise from the above that cat back you're safe, downpipe is pretty grey, turbo is obviously good bye warranty.

Of course this will vary dealer to dealer, so ask your own but it should help plan out some mods for people.

Depends on the dealer...like someguy said..ask your dealer first or just wait for your warranty to expire then u can mod without worries..

+1

You can always just install a K&N drop-in filter and be done with it. Those filters claim that they're warranty approved so no problems there.

The other side of this is insurance and some insurance companies are very particular about mods before done without their knowledge.

so if a MAF goes faulty, and you have an intake - its covered?

I would kind of doubt that part of it. However when I asked he said there was nothing to be concerned with in voiding the powertrain warranty. I wouldn't care so much about a $300 MAF versus a $3000 engine.

IMHO - I wouldnt trust the dealers' word unless it was written down somewhere so you can CYA.

Think about a CAI installed - and you hydrolock. You think the dealer will honor warranty?
Lowered suspensions - smack one of those beautiful crater-holes along the 401, will dealer replace those?

That's a little different, if you drove into 4 feet of water with the stock intake you'd still hydrolock and they still wouldn't cover it. Same goes for the suspension, it's damage caused by the elements and stock or not they wouldn't cover it, that's what insurance is for.

+1 if your afraid to void your warranty simply don't mod your car. In my opinion, warranty is a joke because when something does need replacing and wasn't modified they find any excuse not to fix it. Enjoy your car, do whatever you feel will make you happy regardless what may come from it.
