Good Day All,

New to the forum, can't believe there is actually a forum dedicated to Mazda 3's in T.O ! ...:D

My scenario:

My wife is in the process of importing her 2005 Mazda 3 GT from the United States (she used to live in Ohio). Unfortunately the car has no Daytime Running Lights (DRL's) which are required to pass the import inspection in Canada.

Canadian Tire wants $170+tax for installation of DRL's. I'm not a huge fan of CDN tire doing work of any kind on our car :rolleyes (no offence to anyone) I called a Mazda dealership and they were actually pretty rude and told me they won't touch the car for DRLs (guessing they are put off by Canadians purchasing cars in the States)

Does anyone know of any good mechanics/shops in the GTA who would be able to rewire/hook up a DRL for a better price?:D

If you dont already have the DRL Module, grab the kit from Canadian Tire. Than have Street Performance intall it.

If you are a little mechanical, you could do the install yourself. You just need to be comfortable slicing wires.

Thanks for the replies. I called street performance and unfortunately they are unable to install them (maybe too busy for a small job). No worries... I'll keep looking

Don't go to Canadian Tire for installation. Most places don't know what they're doing.

They forgot inflate my friend's rear tire and he spun out on the highway. They also broke the wheel airbag. He was there to get the clutch replaced and some other minor things. But why was the airbag broken and why was the tire deflated? No idea...

The US cars are a little more difficult to enable DRL's on as they are not meant to have it. You can avoid getting the modules that they sell at canadian tire and do whats called an independant fog mod. Depends on how picky the shop is you may have to hook it up so that the stock fog switch is useless until the car passes its safety.

Now because you have a 04-06 you can send that red wire from pic 8 in this link back to were the relay would plug in. Only difference is that when the car shuts down the lights will turn off immediatly with the ignition. The way they did this in the link the lights turn off about 15-20 seconds after the car is shut off. This is only able to be done on 04-06 as in 07 they changed the power sources

Or you could do a highbeam as DRL mod. It is some what a more time consuming and somewhat difficult to do. Some of the wires in those diagrams will not apply to you as you would need a power wire from somewhere else. The rest would be rather straight forward.
