View Full Version : Aerocatch Hood Pins?
Hey gang,
With spring around the corner, I'm thinking I need some rice! :chuckle
I picked up a carbon fiber hood last year and I'm thinking of getting it thrown on soon. I technically don't need to worry about hood pins since it's based on my OEM hood, but I really like the look of the Aerocatch.
I'm just having trouble deciding between the "Plus Flush" (Entire hood pin sits on top of the hood), vs the "Flush Type" (Cleaner look, most of it sits under the hood with only a little bit exposed).
So far this is what I've gathered:
Flush Type: Harder to install, cleaner look according to the manufacturer.
Plus Flush: These are the Aerocatch's that I first noticed and I kind of like them more... But I wanted to hear back from anyone who has experience with these!
Also, any opinion's on color? I'm thinking carbon fiber so it blends in with the hood... Otherwise I'd fall back on black.
Finally, anyone who has had these installed, I'd love to hear about your experience. What exactly is modified on the car, besides the hood?
This is a Plus Flush...

Off Topic, but watch out when buying the Aerocatch there are fake/replicas in the market
Thanks! I think I'm going to buy local this time. JRP is an official dealer and I've already approached Nextmod about securing some. eBay is littered with them!

CJ, I got mime from Nextmod. I think mine are plus flush mounted. If you want to take a look in person, I'm in the Yonge/7 area, and the hood is in storage, but I can take you over, so you can have a look in person.

I've got a set of Plus Flush latches on my car. Here are a few pieces of info:
1) SOLID product. I've never had any issues with them and they work flawlessly.
2) They are installed on a Seibon OEM style CF hood.
3) If you actually want them to be 100% functional (this was important for me as my car sees plenty of road course time), I would not recommend mounting the pins into your rad support. I welded in metal brackets that extended out from my front fenders and mounted the pins through them. This way, there is no risk of the pins pulling through the plastic upper rad support in the case that your OEM hood latch fails.
4) Measure 600x, cut once.
5) DO NOT BUY THE CARBON LATCHES - THEY LOOK HORRRRRRRRRRRIBLE (and do not match real carbon fibre what-so-ever)!!! You've been warned.

Had mine in the car for over a year now, i agree with the comment about the CF ones they look like garbage. mine mount to the top of the hood i painted the sides of my CF hood so i just painted the latches to match.
My biggest issue was lining them up to make them perfectly even but Password JDM now makes a kit to make install easier and to make the top mounted latches a lot more secure.

this kit eliminates the need to cut away too much of the bottom of the hood as you insert the metal plate with the 2 studs through the top hole. line them up in the holes drilled for the screws and then mount the latch. So much easier then the 6 tiny bolts.. it also comes with 2 pieces of lexan that once lines up tell you just where to cut the hood instead of using paper or cardboard cutouts.
You guys are awesome, thanks for the information.
Definitely going to avoid the CF latches and will be looking into that mounting plate.
Also, those fender brackets sound like a good idea, although I'm worried about welding stuff onto the car... Most of my mods are easily reversible (Even though the car isn't leased). Do you have any pics of these brackets by any chance?
Also, anyone who is using the rad support, I'd love to see pictures as well if easily available!

Jerry, I have the Plus Flush type on my CF hood. The hood and pins were both purchased from NextMod. Feel free to give me a shout if you want to see the setup.
I know you already have the hood..... but if I were to do this all over again, I would have kept it stock. Unless you are hardcore into shows and tracking, it's not worth the hassel. Don't get me wrong, it looks good.... but the money spent on the hood, pins, and install (unless you choose to do the install yourself); that money could have went to other mods.

I did. That's under the hood so it doesn't matter. You need to cut away the under skin of my hood for the latches to clear - they are too deep. What's the ouch for? The white is just resin dust.
