I'm planning on installing a car starter / keyless entry device into my 07 GX. I'm wondering if anyone can give me advice on what brands/models they've used, where they bought it from etc. My price range is about $300-400, although I'd prefer to spend less. Right now I'm looking at what they've got at futureshop, but any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I've used compustar RF-2W900- car starter/keyless on my old car and it worked great, had the lcd screen remote (a great gadget that informed if or when the car is locked, when someone had hit me and the car has started up) and an egg shaped remote as secondary (kind of useless). The newer alarm have a longer range, plus giving you temperature reads and more. IMO either go with compustar or Viper.

Places you can go to get them: Nextmod, Audio Heaven, auto-links

I got my Compustar from futureshop; unsure of the exact model. I just had the remote start installed, I could get the rest put in if I wanted. Mines alright, I wish I had more range on mine for college since parking sucks and I'm always in the back corner..
I'd judge much you spend on one based on the range you want and how much you want extras. Also I don't know how long these things last, I'd imagine at least as long as the life of the car.

Also, just saying, but I had to have my car in FutShop twice cause the heaters wouldn't blow hot air. Another reason you might want to go somewhere more specialized in cars.

I think I also had that same egg shaped remote. I took it off cause I'd sit down in a chair and turn on my car :bang

You don't have many options with your budget. You're kinda restrained to a one way remote, especially if you don't want to go over.

Is your car standard or auto? It will affect the price if you go to futureshop or BB.

A basic one way starter with keyless will run you around $362 taxes included at futureshop. What you are paying for and how I get that numbers are;
Nordic Start 1-Way starter - $149.99 w/basic install - Compustart is the same price better distance, just the dumbest 2nd fob ever, unless you get the unit that is $189.99
TB Module - $59.99
OEM Control - $39.99
Keyless - $69.99

If you have a manual add another $40. If you wanted to go with a two way remote add about another $100. Benefit of a two way remote is the screen you have. If starting your vehicle from a distance it will tell you the vehicle is started also will let you know if the doors are locked or not.

I can almost guarantee one of our sponsors can offer you a better price and I would check them out. I've read good things about audio heaven and auto-links.

Installed my self one night, its not that hard if you know where to look for wires.

+2 Love my 5901 but the OP doesn't want to spend more than $400, and even stated they wanted to spend less.

have the 5901 with smart start, it is an amazing system. but unfortunately way out of the OP price range...i think you get what you pay for when it comes to protecting and putting a remote starter in your car

Yeah. I'm thinking you can get a 5901 installed for about $350 now though. Call Jeff @ Audio Heaven.

Yea he had a promo going for $369. But it didn't include any custom labour if needed and the bypass module. Although at the price I would stretch my budget and get the best of the best.

The smart start has come such a long way since its come out. The app can now track your vehicle via google maps and is very accurate.

Well I honestly don't want to spend more than $400... but if the 5901 is the cat's meow then i'll just save up for one more paycheque! No big deal. Thanks for your input guys.

I had a ProStart 2-way that my gf bought me from Canadian Tire when it was on sale for around $150 a couple of years ago when I had my Protege, had it installed at Best Buy for $100. Never had problems with it at all and the range was pretty far; used to start my car from the 3rd floor.

On the '10, I got a Compustar combo from Audio Heaven. I've had no issues.
I would check in with Audio Heaven and Auto- Links (if you have the chance, get on their mailing lists so you get updates of when their sales are). But you could also just check out the sponsor sections. I'm pretty sure Audio Heaven has a sale on right now.......

Nustart from Best Buy!!!! Hahahahaha.... Sounds ghetto but i heard it's made by compustar. Around $150 I think, it's seen 2 winters and never had an issue. And the range is crazy far.

Good option if ur on a serious budget and just want ur car warm in the morning. No bells and whistles, it just works ;)

Go with an OEM remote start I think is the best...
