View Full Version : Public transit is so much fail

I have a need to travel to Toronto from Waterloo, WITHOUT using my ms3 for today only.

It has been 2hrs since I took the Waterloo GRT public transit to the Greyhound station, and we're still d**cking around in Kitchener, and now we're stopping in CAMBRIDGE. And I still have to take the subway in Toronto to get halfway to here I need to go. Tree huggers tell you to take the bus, save some trees and whales, meanwhile my desire to build a whaling vessel out of cedar and pine continues to grow.

There are buses that go direct!

Greyhound is for between city travel. You gotta expect to take local transit to get to your final destination.

I must have taken the sardine express then. Now we're maybe halfway to Milton. The timer on my iPhone is showing 2hr 20min. But the sun is bright and being all sunny, and I don't see any smog! I expect a flight of pure white doves to accompany my bus overhead at any moment.

Perhaps your journey will end something like this. :)

Please move this thread where it should be. I'm just venting at the sheer fail that is public travel. Did I mention that there are 3 whiny kids in the seat next to mine? 2hrs of alternate crying, giggling and screaming in F minor will try the patience of the Pope himself. He doesn't have much patience to begin with, he DID have to deal with the Death Star fiasco you know.

4hrs 25min and still about 30min away from the final stop. Spent so far: $29+ one way.

Why didn't you take the Go Bus?

Sometimes going green does not make sense - I used to live in Kitchener and work in Cambridge. By car 20 minutes, by BICYCLE 1 hour, by bus 1.5-2 hours depending on getting there in time to make the transfer....

I spend 3 hrs in total commuting from vp and lawrence to YorkU everyday. It normally takes 30 mins by car... Also i can either be 20 mins early or 1 hr late if i leave 1.5 hr b4 the start of my first class...

Also on a different note i was on the 54 lawrence east today and the bus driver answered her cellphone WHILE driving, and when a passenger asks if she's concerned about being caught she promptly responds with a "do you think i give a shit"... bus drivers these days.

Honestly I hated taking the bus home when I was a student at York... yah sure the steeles bus came every 15 mins.... but the GO bus that goes up bayview only came every 40 mins.... so if the steeles one was late.. and I missed the bayview bus... yay to 40 mins in the cold!!! Plus why is it so few people who ride the bus have any idea about personal hygiene??? Is it that hard to shower and buy deodorant!!!

You say Cambridge like it's a bad thing. It's no Keswick or Scarborough. You leave my hometown alone!! *shakes fist*

But yeah. Public transit sucks.

I hope you phoned that into TTC customer service, I don't work for the TTC, but work for another transit corporation and that is inexcusable (both the phone and response). The information you provided here is more than enough and hopefully they follow through with the driver.

The reason I bought my first car was in part for the Waterloo to Toronto trips. Though I skipped the GRT bit and took the bus right from UofW. iExpress wasn't bad, but getting on the bus that much faster and quite often the bus was full enough to go directly to Toronto. Door to door it would often be around 3.5-4 hours versus the 1.5 in a car. The none student fare also didn't help.

took me 30 mins to go to York from Yonge and eg with the car, with the construction at downsview about 45 mins. With Public transit it takes about 1.5 hours and god I hate running for the bus!

i grew up in an area with no busing system. a 20 min drive to the closest stop of any kind.

gave up my car 3 years ago and started taking ttc.

got my car back and will NEVER NOT DRIVE. so much time wasted, sleep lost. and the expence.

between gas insurence and payment my car costs me about $500 a month. if i were doing the traveling i do taking transit it would cost me at least a grand.
i live downtown and if im going out without my car its a cab all the way.

Lol, yeah... I'm pretty sure drivers have been fired for much less...

Anyways, I went to UW and never had a car... coming back to Toronto was usually a bitch, but its not that bad when you can just relax and get some work done on a laptop/watch a movie/sleep :p.

I moved past the yellow line to let other people on right after me and then I asked for a transfer before we started moving and the bus driver said it was too late, I crossed the line.

They don't give a shit and it won't change anytime soon. The TTC union is incredibly powerful. If someone reports her and they have pictures, here is what will happen:

1) The will be fired or suspended without pay.
2) Within a week the union will appeal on their behalf.
3) They will be reinstated immediately and will also likely receive their pay for the period of their suspension or firing as well.
4) There will be a record on their file, but not much else.

It's nothing spectacular... it's decent but nothing to write home about.
