Aight so, ive always wanted a mazda, im young, stupid, and so i baught a 2010 mazda speed 3, now...i love my car, has everything ive ever wanted in a car that ive imagined as a kid, and a bunch of shit i didnt even know existed(swiveling lights and rain sensing windshield) lol

my question..and im not complaining! but im wondering if this is normal...
the car is a turbo'd standard(obviously) and..i leaned how to drive standard on the car in the first place,
ive had it for 3 months now, and from a full 50L tank(that i fill with premium), im getting no more then 300Km per tank of gas, is this normal for a speed3? ive got around 4500km on it so far,

this is how i drive, i shift at 3,000RPMS
and try and coast around 2,000 ish,

also...will it hurt the leather inside the car if i use leather polish on it? or should i stick to armourall lol.

thanks!

also, i should probably add...because im 21, with a sexy fast little car, i live by a rule that nobody passes me...specially those damn Civic's..think im just a regular mazda3 until i leave em in the dust :cool lol.

welcome to TM3

id stay away from armor all stuff. if you want your leather to last dont cheap out on cleaning/conditioning stuff for it.

as for the mileage im not sure about the 2010's but most ppl with the first gens get around 400kms a tank from what i hear. also you say you shift at 3000 and coast at 2000 but yet in ur next post you basically say you drive like an idiot. (FYI not really tolerated on this forum) so how do you actually drive the car?

Hmmm.. Your profile also says Mazda 3 GT, not a speed..

you do about 16.7L/100km <- according your the info you provided...roughly

the speed 3 is rated for 13L/100KM city and 9 something for high way.

Given the car is new and your driving style AND it was winter I'd say possibly.

lol give me some slack man, im not going around at 120kmh, i just meant when the guy is revving is engine beside me in a civic how can i not overtake him, its not like im speeding, but anyway, it was a joke to begin with. like i said, i shift at 3 and try and coast around 2, watching my girlfriends regular mazda3, (automatic) it always coasts at like 1.5, and i was wondering if thats more were i should be shooting for, but then again, two different cars..im a new driver as well, so any advice is good advice =] i just want to drive my car as well as possible thats all,

ugh, armor all. Try lexol, cheap, easy to get and works great so far on my leather.

and no offence, just cuz you're 21 with a nice car doesn't justify driving like a knob. There are a lot of young guys here that are mature about driving on public roads. If you wanna race, we got some pretty decent tracks around southern ontario.

edit: you clarified at the same time I posted. Wanna be street racers in civics piss me off too, still doesn't mean you always gotta prove a point y'know?

I think gearing is different in the speed3, but shifting at 3 and coasting between 1.5 and 2 is fine in my experience. If I ever wanna stretch a tank, I starting shifting somewhere between 2 and 2.5 (again, I think gearing is different in the speed3)

your rpm's don't tell the whole story. you can floor the gas and still shift at 3000.

Aeonic
03-16-2011, 03:54 PM
alright! ill buy lexol next time! im sure canadian tire has it =] annd....so its better to like...slowly climb in speed rather then reaching it immediately? i just figured it took the same amount of gas =/ lol. im not kidding i really dont know anything about cars...although i have been browsing around these forums for awhile now trying to figure what some stuff means =]

^^ I just think it "feels" like the car is sucking a hell of a lot of gas when you stomp the gas in 3rd and 4th at 2000rpm instead of shifting into the power band. somebody feel free to correct me though.

^ makes sense. I get the same feeling

Slow and steady acceleration definitely uses less gas than instantly appearing at 60 km/h from a stop, if that's what you're asking.
I also shift at 3k (usually) and cruise around 2-2.5 and I get about 250km to half a tank (I don't usually let it get lower than that).
I'd also like to recommend that you relax your rule about not letting people pass you, although at 21 with a new, fast car you won't likely listen. :)

Ever see a small dog act around a much larger dog? That's what I think of when I see ricer civics. Anyway, some important tips for our MS3s:

- read the mazdaspeed forum's oil thread for great justice

- don't WOT if you know the engine is going to lug (ex. if you're at 2k in 6th gear, you'd better downshift if you want to boost)

- don't throw on performance mods without doing your homework, all that extra power means nothing if your car goes pop (look up MS3 fuel pump).

- the stock tires are summer tires, get winter tires on steelies or another set of alloys for next winter. But I guess if you're in North Bay, you probably already use winters if you want to drive around and survive.

- the seats are real leather (pigmented leather and cloth), just keep them clean and maybe use a leather conditioner once a year on the leather portions (Leatherique, I think its called)

regarding the leather, get your car tinted and condition places that gets more sun exposure (back window head rests, near the door windows) more often.

+1, this.

Also, next time you have one of those Civics or modded Sunfires rev next to you at the lights and look over, just do what I do. Start laughing at them openly and if you have a passenger, point over at them and turn to your passenger and laugh at them. Nothing upsets them more. :)

get yourself a gps with a gas milage feature.
itll teach you how to drive the car to get the best gas milage.
i recently started driving stick on a regular basis and it helped alot.
smooth accel/ decel is the key, it also depends on how fast you have to go. for example if the limit is 40 km/h i dont shift at 3000, more like 2200. im in no rush, but if im getting on the hyw i get to 4500 before shifting.

just relax in your driving, it will help your car, gas, insurence, LICENCE, and life.
by the time i was your age i already had 2 ticks and a suspension ( unpaid fine for blown headlight, no insurence impact) and was paying $670 a month for insurence. I actually had to stop driving for a year just to let the ticks expire.

not to say that i dont sometimes speed, i drive over $100,000 k a year so i do screw up sometimes.

my car comes with a GPS in it, also..has that exact feature, its funny that you said that because i jusstt recently started doing that too! and your right it does help, forsure! lol, ive gotten one speeding ticket, 82 in a 60, but the cop was really nice, and i was in my military uniform so it probobly helped..he reduced it to 15 over so i didnt get any points taken off my license etc, and just a $52 dollar fine, im not speeding too much anymore, cant afford it lol. not o mention...honestly after reading so much about cars on these forums the past few weeks ive started to want to baby my car rather then be a show off. =/

glad we had some influence on you. besides, im sure you dont want to trash it cause you were racing someone right.

also you can show off your car without driving like a maniac. just do what zoom zoom boy said. no point racing if you know youll win right :)

car looks good. need better pics though.

so what will be your first mod?

Aeonic
03-18-2011, 01:32 PM
heh thanks :D um, well thats a question for the ages! the car has enough under the hood for me for a while, so im doing cosmetics first, being tinted windows, i like the black out look for the '10 ms3, so im going to work on gettin that, then i saw some pics that some guy took a blacked out black mica 2010 ms3 and added red accents to certian parts of the car, looked REALLLY sharp, i wish i had the pics but thats later anyway, then after all thats done, i deff want to put a cold air, and go from there, heh.

LoL buy that car from North Bay mazda? If so, I test drove it (nice and hard at that lol).

Anyway behave, yes you have a fast car (I have the same car actually that I bought down south here)... but because you do, respect it and other drivers on the road. Racing is utterly over rated.

Aeonic
03-18-2011, 08:59 PM
yeah haha i baught it here, it actually had like, no km's on it, said to even test drive it id have to start financing it and shit, wouldnt let me drive it off the show floor, so i bought it w.o testing it, did enough research on it anyway to know it was a nice ride. i got it in December..the end of December.

SomeGuy
03-18-2011, 11:43 PM
Yup that's def the one I drove, I drove it in november. The dealer there my family purchased 3 cars from them previously (including my first one) so the sales guy knows us and had no problem with me taking it for a good spin lol

Aeonic
