View Full Version : Rustproofing
I'm picking up my new car tonight and while I turned down the dealer's offer of OEM rustproofing, I'm leaning toward having it done elsewhere.
I'm in Montreal, so advice on Toronto locations won't help. Still, I could use some advice.
This place is supposed to a top-notch Krown shop: http://www.nelsongarage.com/krown.html
They charge $109.95 and recommend you get that done annually.
This guy is supposed to be amazing: http://www.barrysrustproofing.com/
He charges $400 and recommends redoing only the undercarriage only three years.
I realize it's not a lot to go on, but which would you choose? Is it important to get the car done ASAP or could I wait a few months?
Thanks, boys and girls.
I would Krown
+1 for Krown.
Majority of people here will suggest the same.

IMO it has very little to do with what product you use, but who applies it. Also, do not rustproof your car in the spring, it is a big mistake. You will drip oil all summer long and make a big mess, while you're trying to keep your car clean. Rather, do it in the fall because its impossible to keep your car clean at that point, and it will drip over the winter which is when you need the max protection anyways.
Good luck!

Rust protection is only as good as the Warranty that it comes with.. whether it is Krown, Rust Check etc.. it all comes down to what happens when Rust does happen.
I wouldn't get something that you have to depend on for 10+ yrs from a one man show. What happens when Barry retires?

I had purchased a lifetime rust proofing service from the used dealership I had purchased my MS3 from (a Honda dealership!). They said I can come back every year for rustproofing treatment. It looks strange, though, rolling into a Honda lot. LOL

Honda dealers are very reliable and for the most part are one of the best for customer service! Take it as a huge positive lol

rust "warranties" aren't worth the paper they are written on.
people that got their 2004-05 mazda3 krowned or rust checked were dealt a big "can't help you, it's not rust-through" when they asked about the warranty. mazda essentially said the same thing until lynne started her campaign with the APA.

And I am certain that anyone with an 04/05 that had their service done at Bryan's Rust Proofing were declined as well.
Incidently, I have had a number of my clients cars repaired by Symtech.

essentially making Barry's Rust Proofing on par with Krown, Rust Check, etc

would it have anything to do with the fact that Symtech has a contract with a large volume dealership and it would be in Symtech's best interest to help out customers of MOT?

Not sure, I have no knowlegde of his product.. I was merely stating that I would buy a product that I needed to be intact for 10yrs from an individual owned company

Actually Symtech has over 5000 dealerships accross Canada.. large and small.
