Hey guys,

I just installed the SURE RMM street version a couple of weeks ago and last week I tried to give the car a go.

I launched the car with some clutch slip at about 2700 rpm, tires were spinning, but no wheel hop (awesome!). Then I proceeded to shift to 2nd at about 6000 rpm on the tach. It was a pretty hard shift and when I got into 2nd, I heard a loud "thud" coming from the drivers side window. Any idea what that could be? At first I thought it was the mudflaps banging against the wheel/car, but after some reading, I think it might be the motor hitting the firewall. Could that be it?

Thanks!

After reading your thread title, I was ready to refer you to a doctor lol.....Anyways doubt very much it would be the motor hitting the firewall.Have any issues since?

Look under your car to make sure everything is still bolted together and maybe re-torque the bolts. Some guys on the MSF's have had this issue with their engine hitting the firewall.

It was kinda hard for me to torque the bolts properly because I just used regular jacks to install the RMM. Maybe I'll give it a go when it's not wet outside and see if anything has changed since and then I'll jack it up again to give it a check.

Thanks guys.

Did you use a torque wrench the first time you installed it?

You need to torque those bolts to 70 ft/lbs and keep an eye on that bolt that connects the motor mount to the transmission mount, that's typically the bolt that people don't torque enough. It's really tough to achieve 70 ft/lbs on that particular bolt when you're lying on your back and only have limited area to work under the car.

Exactly. I had maybe 1.5 feet of leverage. My torque wrench is way to long to fit under there. I think I torqued that bolt properly, but the other bolts I just tightened it as much as I can using a regular socket wrench.

I always ask the dealership to make sure those bolts are torqued when I go in for an oil change. I remember what a pain in the ass it was to install those!

Air ratchet ftw.

Well I just installed a brand new motor mount, so hopefully it isn't that. I'll check this weekend if it's nice.

If I thought you were serious, an that was indeed your problem, I honestly would help you out.

I'll take a rain check on that then. I'll check this weekend to see if that is indeed my problem.

Thanks man!

Anytime.
Off topic, I may come across as a douche in a lot of my posts, depending on how they're interpreted. But the fact of the matter is, I really am a helpful person with a lot of mechanical skill and am always ready to help those that need, in the field of skills that I have.
On topic, try to figure out the noise and pm me if you really do actually need a hand. It could very well be a loose tranny mount bolt. Check under the battery tray. When you make one mount stiffer, the rest are stressed more.

Can you try jacking the car up higher next time? I've done a rear engine mount many many times in my own driveway and yes, it's very tight but I've been able to use a full size torque wrench each time.

Impact air gun will work, but you'll have no clue whether you've torqued it enough, 70 ft/lbs is a lot.

I used the gun for removing the old mount and installing the new mount then torqued.

70ft-lbs on an air impact is NOTHING...with an impact you gotta be careful not to massively over torque the thing.

Even an electric one from cantire can do like 250 (or the more expensive one that I have ) 300 fl/lb. So yeah careful with that.
