Hi I purchased 4 sumitomo htrz2 summer tires last year and the size is 205/50/17...Now every time I drive they seem to make a really loud noise. They were fully balanced etc etc last a few months ago and I stored them for the winter as I use winters for winter. Is road noise a common issue with all summer tires or did I just manage to get a bad set? Any thoughts or ideas will help!
Thanks
Prakash

Oh okay guys...thanks for the fast reply...is there any sets of tires that you guys would recommend that are generally quiet? I dont really care about sporty handling or anything...

Directional tires with V-grooves are always noisier, especially afte one year or so due to wear. If you want quiet tires, go with tires that say "touring", like the Yoko Avid Envigor.

Just a question: did you buy those tires brand new or used? If you bought them used, there's a chance they were like mine and the tire belts shifted. I was told it was because the previous owner didn't do alignments and this was the result. The road noise was terrible.

I bought those tires brand new... and im pretty sure the tire belts inside of them have shifted so their noisy also just like yours. I did my alignments and tire rotations every oil change and yeah still no luck. I think im still under warranty so im gonna see how that goes! If not then i guess i will be purchasing new tires :(

Actually most of the time its the tires that aged. Tire compounds will harden after a winter and depends where you store it, if you leave it in a cold garage then rubber will harden even faster. Harden rubber will cause lots of tire noise.
