View Full Version : Shampoo?
Is there a particular reason to choose a pricy car shampoo for simple wash rather than, say, a dish detergent like Sunlight?

Yes, a simple detergent such as Sunlight or any other dish soap has degreasers which will strip your wax and have no lubricants built in such as car soaps have...Get a quality car soap for regular use.Use sunlight or dawn etc mixed with car soap; when the need arises to strip old wax before detailing.

yeah, that ONR is crazy stuff. Works great as a car wash or quick detailer. I love using it.
Simple answer to your question is just like everyone else said, dish soap will strip waxes/most sealants off your paint. Car soaps are also specifically made to NOT dry out plastic trim and rubber seals, which basically every dish soap (except maybe dawn) does. It's just all around better for your car's exterior to use a car soap rather than dish soap. It's not much more expensive either.

Yeah there's a lot of good Car Soaps available on the market. ONR is really great as many people have suggested. More traditional (foaming) car soaps would include: Optimum Car Wash, Duragloss Car Wash Concentrate, Chemical Guys Maxi Suds, Meguiars Gold Class Car Wash, etc. There's something at every price point. Are the more expensive soaps better than the less expensive soaps? It's hard to say or quantify "better" in terms of car soap, some may have a higher or seem more lubricious, or has more foam, or does a better job of leaving waxes intact, etc. Most of these points are all debatable and it comes down to personal preference at the end of the day.
