Hi guys,
I have NEVER taken my car to downtown after it's been lowered. I have never even taking it to a road that I was not familiar with lol. I am considering taking a summer course this summer while I am on coop and the class run from 6-9pm, so I have to rush to class from my work.
I go to school at UT St George. So I would have to go down DVP, then Bloor then down St George. Anyone lowered travels this route regularly? I know Bloor st. always has some sort of construction going on, and St George has those long ass speed bumps between stop signs.
My car is not that low, only prokit and konis. But I hate bottoming out the shocks. Should I drive down or just drive to a subway station and take the train instead?
Thanks for reading!

Hmmm it would be safer for the car if u take the train (u know how it is downtown)..but that also depends if you have time to spare.....but if your on a hassle then i guess you need to drive and just watch out carefully fpr pot holes and uneven road..

Well the the construction is done on bloor between DVP and St George.
My suggestion would be to park you car on Bedford rd ( other side of st george station.) and hike it the rest of the way. the green p there is also very good rates for the area.
p.s. i drive that area daily my gf works at Avenur rd and bloor.
Where are you coming from anyways. DVP and Bloor get backed up alot

Thanks for the quick reply guys, I am not sure where my class will be. But if it's any where close to the engineering buildings or medical science building then it would be like a 15 min hike LOL

I've driven a few times to downtown around queen/spadina. It's not THAT bad, but make sure you watch for potholes and I usually avoid street car rails.
I totally understand what you mean, but I think you will be fine since you're lowered on prokits/koni's.

Is that the area by queens park, by museum station?

Yea I have to go slowly if I decide to go down, but I also don't want to drive like turtle and cause congestion lol

Don't worry, Bloor is slow as hell. You'll be driving like a turtle whether you want to or not. lol

I live downtown (Front & Spadina) and drive around quite a bit there. I'm lowered on RB Springs (0.75") coupled with MS Shocks. I won't lie, its rough as well especially with the sewer grates, street car tracks and uneven roads. Sometimes I feel like my car will fall apart any moment.
Your route sounds okay as Bloor is a crawl. There are some decent side streets off of College Street (St. George, Beverley, McCaul) that you can find street parking off of. Its just a 5 to 10 min walk to UofT.

I used to live in East York, and I drove to work every day at Bay and Bloor. I was on prokits with mazdaspeed struts/shocks on 215 tires jacked up to 35 lbs. Take the DVP to Bloor, then take Wellesley. It runs from Parliment to King's Circle. Best advice is to drive down there one night during the week after 10 PM or so. Cruise around a couple of different routes and find one that isn't too rough. Some of those roads are rough, so take a few test trips and find the pot holes.

All depends on your class, what's the class number? I can try google to see if it has previous classes and locations. I would assume they'd be in similar places. If we know about where your class will be, then the UTSG'ers here can probably recommend good parking places :)

class number = class code.....
I just re-read my post and it doesn't really make sense at all. Too bad I can't edit posts yet. :(

I will be taking eco100 as a complimentary studies elective for my engineering degree. The classroom has not been determined yet. Most likely around MS or the pharmacy building. I use to live on res for the last three years at UT engineering. I dunno any decent parking places, do u know the underground garage at BA? Is it lower friendly? lol

Here's what I learn. Drive in advance around with a beater for now see the conditions of the road and if it looks safe drive your lowered car. Also check construction signs. If you see the dreaded bu,p sign. They have re tarred or in the process of fillin in potholes

1T1? I've been in the BA parking lot once, i recall that the entrance ramp changes grades fairly quick so it might not be. You can try other member's suggestions and try driving a beater :D

Take Parliament then make the right on Wellesley like Jason said. It's the best and easiest way to access campus since it leads right into Kings College Circle. It's the only route I take when I head to that area.
Oh and downtown + prokits = piece of cake, so no worries shu.

Why not rock the Rocket? it's not really the roads I worry about downtown...
But yeah, as others mentioned, you'll be fine. Just granny it when in doubt.

Shu,
I usually down in the UofT area picking up my better half... if you are going to travel the dvp to st george i would suggest you try to avoid the bloor area from dvp exit to about yonge st... just the other day i hit a huge pot hole... thought i was going to blow a tire... the road is bad since the winter... i would suggest the route i take now.. i go from bloor over to parliament and then south to Wesley across to kings college circle not that many pot holes... but try to avoid the sewers when you get to yonge and Wels over to bay going west bound they can come be a bit messy...
good luck on your travels

wow totally should have read further before posting lol i guess you guys all beat me to it! lol
I have been driving to utsg for the past few years and the only problem i had was with spadina (some potholes etc.) but i cant see why you would haven any problems even on prokits, except for a maybe a more bumpy ride.
Also, once you find out the building, pm me for free parking spots ;)

I've driven this a lot, going between Scarborough and the downtown campus. First, don't drive on Bloor. It sucks. Period. Take this route, its generally only slow around Yonge/Bloor given there might be some construction still there.

That's pretty much always the way I went. I was driving on an ~1.8" drop, never had any issues. Just watch out for potholes, there isn't much that will bottom out the shocks otherwise. In fact the worse is on St. George street, with those big bumps, but its no problem driving slow over those.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions. I definitely have a few alternative route in mind now. I am gonna take my dad's beater camry and drive down a few routes during late nights. I think I should just avoid bloor all together... it was definitely a nightmare when we were driving down on my buddy's bmw, it only had sport pack, not even aftermarket lowered..
