View Full Version : What do you have planned to do in the next month or two on your MS3?

So with the weather starting to stay in constant positive temperatures above 8 degrees, summer slowly approaching, I was curious to see what other members have planned to do on their MS3's.
For me right now this is what I have planned:
-Compression and Leakdown tests (bought the tools to do both)
-Engine and Engine Bay Cleanup
-Install new PCV valve
-Intake Manifold clean
-Install Fuel Injector Seals (if the leakdown test confirms that they are required)
-Install KMD Internals (ordered and shipped)
-Install Grimmspeed BC (ordered)
-Install SU Boost Tubes (one of the OEM ones seems like its ballooned sorta speak a bit almost, so might as well change it for peace of mind)
-Get a few things changed on my tune (got some of the stuff sorted for this already)
Thats what I have in a nutshell that I kinda wanna do over next few weeks. By engine cleanup I mean seafoam it, do another piston soak on it. Clean up the bay, oh how that rust inhibitor oil spray gets everywhere.
I also figure that if I am going to do the PCV install, I might as well clean the intake manifold while its out, and if its determined I need injector seals do those as well while I am in there doing all that. I am still debating on doing a OCC as I am trying to see how some people over come the winter coldness that might make the gunk freeze, but thats still being looked into.
Since I am looking into changing a few things on my tune, I figure that having some added safety of FP internals helps. Endedup getting a slick deal on the new KMD internals and while I am there trying to get things sorted out for the tune get the boost spikes under control, not that they are going crazy but I prefer to minimize them. Nothing is particularly wrong with my tune, but I find there are a few changes I want to make...or rather need to make after I had 'fun' with my turbo inlet pipe.
If people are doing some similar stuff, I would be down to have a group install or something down at my place.
So whats ya'll got planned?

Simple for me. After selling current items, get a new deck and find out how to get it to work with the stock bose system (as I don't want to replace everything). Beyond that, just keep learning how to drive it :chuckle

I got an early start on my car this year. I have installed the following so far:
- Eibach prokits (I ride on the stock springs in the winter so I don't plow snow).
- DBA 4000 series slotted rotors all around.
- OEM pads all around.
- Autotech fuel pump internals.
- CPe injector seals.
- Devil's Own Stage 2 Meth Injection Kit.
- SteedSpeed exhaust manifold.
- CPe TMIC.
In the coming weeks, I'll be
- performing the EGR delete.
- installing SURE Motorsports TIGs.
- removing the VTCS system.
In the mean time, autocross season starts this Saturday at Mosport DDT. I'll be there :)

-CS SRI
-Whiter fog lights, the yellow ones look a bit off with HIDs
-Paint the grille insert to match bumper
-Black-out the Mazda symbols (maybe, likely the front only)
-Oil change
-Replace stock exhaust tips so they don't spray black soot on my car
More performance mods will have to wait until I deem it necessary and safe.

I'm still on the fence about some of the mods and how they affect warranty. Also, I'm not really prepared to do anything that will require a tune...again for warranty reasons. By all means please suggest your preference on the inlet and SRI brand.

Does an AP count as a tune? I'll assume not :) in which case I'd go with a Cobb TIP+SRI since they all play nice together. Just my personal preference.

Out of all the SRIs that I researched, it came down to Cobb or Corksport. I chose Corksport because it seemed (from a poll on other forums, and from what I've read from owners) to be the least likely to throw CELs (due to a custom-machined MAF housing and air straightener), plus it includes a TIP.

Eh? Whats wrong with Cp-e?? I researched them a lot too, and Cobb had issues with breaking a bracket, corksport was pricey, and I got a good deal on a CP-e nano (150, lighly used with hydroshield shipped) and aside from a horrible choice of screws for the MAF (Out of my 8 allen sets, none had a key that was the right size) the thing is perfect... and in my research I didn't see a single downside to it.
On another note, the SURE SRI looks really nice, and if you could get a good deal on that, it would be a worthy competitor...

good to know. I had read otherwise on MSF, but I guess they were wrong.
Looks like the Corksport is the one to get since it also include the TIP. I like the idea that it's a solid metal piece but I was concerned about that since one person on MSF.com reported having welding build-up on the inside of the pipe and was worried it might get into the turbo. Looks like this was a one off problem.
I think Cp-e makes great products but personally I like the idea of supporting a company that's focused on the Mazda.
BTW - anyone heard anything about COBB's XLE BPV? Couldn't find much online but it looks like a quality product and was leaning towards it.

+1
I have the cp-e CAI and TIH on my 2nd gen for a couple months without even a hint of issue...it's not even moody like past CAI's I've had where on certain days it just doesn't feel like there's power. My car feels the same whether it's 30 degrees out, or 5 degrees and raining.

I want to see you engine bay with the new boost tubes and stuff... you know what else would make it look cool? a FMIC :)

re: hatch paint/rust - i have the same issue. where are you taking yours to get fixed, and is it covered under any corrosion warranty/tsb?
I'll getcha a pic once I get the intake stuff all done and cleaned up, I think I might go TMIC rather then a FMIC. Its cheaper and easier and not to mention cash is now slowly being diverted to the Track Monstor (picked up Kosei K1 Racing rims and Hankook RS3 tires for it).
The corrosion/paint issue IS NOT covered for me (car is at 138xxxKms) and as well when I went to the dealer that type of rust issue IS NOT covered only perforation rust, not surface (also its not even surface rust either, like theres no actual 'rust' its that the clear coat has eroded by the windshield washer fluid and the paint got brittle so yeah technicalities they are getting away with). They basically dont care about issues like this unless the car is new and all that. I was also told it could be "from winter and using the ice scraper incorrectly" WTF?! LOL but yeah not covered and no TSB for it.
I have a guy that I go to for this work. The price works for me, and I been happy with his work in the past. I am thinking I might also get my hood redone at the same time to get rid of those pesky chips that I have and a few touchups here and there. I figure I am paying for the paint and all that, cheaper to do it all now then each year go back and back and back.

Nice to meet you too, good tip on the rims and what to do with them, thanks for that :)
Yeah, I think I see what you guys meant by the car sounding and driving differently. Butt dyno says that it's faster than before. Before the SRI, I could only hear the engine and feel the boost. With the SRI installed, I hear this hissing/sucking noise when I get on the throttle and go into boost. That's the sound of the turbo, yes? Sounds a lot like if you blew air out of your lungs between clenched teeth. If so, I love it!!
Just half an hour ago as I was getting off the 400 to Black Creek dr., some SUV was chilling in my blind spot and keeping pace with me. People in my blind spot make me nervous, so I downshifted to 5th (I was about 3krpm by this point) and gave it about 60% throttle. BSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH and I'm away~

Just a heads up. For those of you that are doing a CS SRI+TIP, take caution when installing the breather hose. It rubs up against one of the tabs on the ECU cover and then it will wear out over time. Mine has a hole in it now and as a temp solution, I taped it up. In the long run thou, I'll either have to re-route it or trim the tab or put something in between the tab and the hose.
hey Llama. Take note so you don't wear yours out as well.

I went out just now to check on the setup of my intake. The 14mm silicone hose is nowhere near any of the squared-off tabs on the ECU cover. It only contacts two wiring tubes (the ribbed one at the top, and a slightly larger one nearer the bottom), but the hose itself is about 2" away from the ECU cover itself. Do you suppose Corksport revised the placement of the breather hose on the TIP?

Looks like they fixed the problem. Maybe I'll shoot an email to them to see if they can do something about my prob. I ended up going to Canadian Tire and I bought a foot of heater tube for $1.50, that should be sufficient for now.
