Hello,

I have an 07 hatch with about 40k on it and just went for my first oil change since I bought the car. The shop told me I need a full tranny fluid flush and filter change. Is it me or does 40k sound way to early for a fluid change?

Thanks in advance,

John

40 k and it's your first oil change???? :( I believe most people change auto tranny fluid around 75-100k, although some people also do around 50k. You might want to do just a drain and fill, thats what I did.

I asume you bought the car used because if it was the first oil change for the car, you've basically reduced the life of the motor.

If you want to be safe, most people change it between 50-75k. Auto fluid gets dirty/burnt faster. I would maybe wait a couple more oil changes before doing it.

LOl yes MY first oil change with this car not in its history, I am the second owner its had all of it's regular maintenance before I bought it, and a fresh change when I bought it by the dealer. Thanks for you reply though, I thought the same timeline myself when they told me.

I had my auto transmission oil changed at about 42K. I thought it was early too but if the tranmission oil is no longer red or smells burnt, it's time to change regardless of the kms. Also, as far as I understand is that only a drain and fill will do and the only time you do a flush and fill is if you are switching to synthetic oil.

Just found out the dealer recommends the M5 semi synthetic oil for the transmission drain,
dealer quoted me $179.99 for the flush (includes oil and services), and they only recommend flushing which uses 8 litres of M5 transmission oil.

The drain is 4.5 - 5litres of M5 trans oil.
Costs is about $7.09 per litre of M5 trans oil.

I'm at 113,000 KM, any suggestions on what to do? flush or drain? still debating.

It sounds silly but I refused to pay the dealer cost for a straight drain and fill. I bought fluid (M5) from Mazda myself at just over 7 bucks a piece, then went to a shop that is warranty certified and had them do it for 40 bucks... total cost just under 80 bucks.
