Hey Guys,

Looking at doing the "OEM BBK" in the rear of my Mazda3, but am looking for the specs on rotor size, and have only come across Gen2 stuff so far.

I THINK the sizes are:

OEM MZ3 Rear: 10.9"
OEM MZ5 Rear: 11.9"

Can anyone confirm?

Thanks
John

Do you have a GX/GS or GT? That makes a difference.

John,

This is a good upgrade. :) The rotor sizes look correct. I remember the Mazda5 rear rotors being exactly 1" bigger than the Mz3/MS3.

rear rotor size in all those trims are the same. It was only the front rotor size that differed between the GX/GS and GT.

Just to add. For the front calipers and rotors sizes:

GX/GS (2.0L) < GT (2.3L - 2.5L) < MS3 (Turbo).

Yes, there is a difference jumping in braking distance as you move up the different configurations.

Whoa... OG flashback :)

Thanks for the confirmation guys. With the BBK upfront, and new 20" rims, I think its a good option. A BBK in the rear is tough, without loosing the eBrake, and I want the car to remain as drivable as it is now :)

Glad to see you still show love to your 2004 John! :) Can't wait to see your car all done up with a "real" BBK in the front. The Mazda5 rear is a cheap upgrade and retains OEM handbrakes.

I have a set of OEM mazda5 rotors I want to get rid for free. I changed to slotted rotors due to a slight vibration on the fronts that maybe you can fix with proper bedding. PM me if you want it.

Thanks for the offer, but I would go aftermarket rotors.... if someone had the calipers cheap, or the brackets, I may bite :)

i believe the calipers are the same between the 3 and 5, it's the brackets from the 5 you'll need.

The calipers from a Mazda5 actually have a smaller piston bore than the Mazda3 2.3L/Mazdaspeed3. The Mazda3 2.0L and Mazda5 share the same rear calipers.

So the best bang is using Mazda5 rear caliper brackets with Mazda3 GT/Mazdaspeed3 calipers.

I need to find the brackets cheap before I can convince the wife to let me spend more :P

Sweet, found out that Powerslot makes rear discs and found a local supplier for the brackets for a pretty cheap price :)
