Hey all,
I haven't been on here in a while. I thought I'd give it a try though.. I just graduated from Carleton University's School of Industrial Design, with a Minor in Business. The next step, of course, is finding a job!
So I was wondering if anyone on here had any connections to people at graphic design agencies, advertising/marketing agencies, product design firms, design consultancies, etc.
I am very well-rounded. I have proficient knowledge of Adobe CS Softwares, Solidworks, KeyShot, Google Sketchup, Mac/Windows Platform, MS Office, iMovie, Final Cut Pro and AutoCAD.
Please let me know and I'll send over my resume!
Thank you kindly!

Junior from TOProtege.com posted something like this to his Facebook last week, might be worth a shot:
Hey a cool place to work is looking for a PR exec. theadlibgroup (where I work) ... if you know a friend of a friend of a friends or anyone that is hip, happening and all around chill, tell them to send their resume to theadlibgroup@theadlibgroup.com . Do it now.
I don't think it's exactly what you're looking for, but still worth getting in touch with them (or him) to see if anything else fits.

good luck on the job search! I graduated from Humber Industrial Design last april and was fortunate enough to be offered a full time job from my co-op firm. I ended in a position thats actually like 40% design/30% mechanical engineering/30% project managerment (ie: no bluesky conceptual stuff) in a large manufacturing setting, but its all good and Im still sketching & using solidworks every day. You'll find that the stereotypical purist ID jobs are very difficult to come by, and often times dont pay very well, but there are definitely some out there if you're talented and motivated. Canada's sorta lousy for design work, but being in toronto or mtl will definitely help your chances. Cant speak from personal experience, but I've heard a lot of the best design jobs are out in cali or NY. If you dont mind relocating perhaps try there.
do you have a portfolio of your work online anywhere??

Yah, I have my portfolio online at www.ruby-ho.com and at www.coroflot.com/rubyho
My personal website is still a working progress. And I totally understand what you mean when you say that the stereotypical ID jobs aren't common. I actually don't want to be in a stereotypical design firm.. I really want to work at a design consultancy. I've been searching for jobs in all fields of design - graphic, industrial, advertising, etc.
I am starting to look in the states, but I'll definitely have to spiff up my online portfolio before I apply.
Thanks for the reply!
