Hey guys,

I'm just curious to see if anyone is running an aftermarket exhaust with an added resonator to keep the noise down?

As for my set up on my 2008 speed 3 I'm running the Cp-e exaust with the cobb downpipe and AP custom tun.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

It will tone it down - but not make it quiet. Also lose a bit of backpressure hurting the performance.

I have a CPe cat back exhaust where the muffler in the CPe unit failed. Because CPe wouldnt warranty it unless I sent them the catback, I decided to make my own fix. Took out the CPe muffler and put in a pipe in its place then added a 18" resonator in the midsection. She is a bit louder then the CPe exhaust, but personally sounds WAYYYYY better (raspy and angry).

Adding a resonator to a system (as long as you keep everything else in place) should tone it down a bit, however the amount of toning down depends on how big the resonator is and what time (louvered, spun, etc (on the inside)).

I was at the shop today (hotrod scott's) and I was told to go with a 3" resonator and apparently it will drone out noise quite a bit. If I was to get the resonater installed I was just wondering if the resonater would installed on the downpipe instead of the actual exhaust.

It would be on the actual exhaust NOT the downpipe.

1) Because usually a resonator is 8inch atleast. So trying to fit it on the DP would be...difficult and honestly not worth it
2) Most resonators that actually do an effective job are about 12inch to 24inch (i went with 18inch) and the easiest place to put it is in the midsection of the actual exhaust.

If you dont have a cat on the DP, that can help with muffling out the sound a bit, but it would be more pricey to do (however that CAN be added on the the DP and probably the best place to put it).

So you have a few options. Personally if you want best bang for the buck, throw it on the midsection of the exhaust and get a 12 to 18inch they seem to be the most fairly priced.

I am NA too but Hot Rod Scotts is who installed my resonator which helped noise and performance. Good guys

You dont want back pressure with boost haha

My downpipe does have a converter on it. If I do install the resonator which will cost me around 200 bucks. My next concern is that I will lose power and I will screw up my custom tune.
