Howdy folks,

I'm new to the forums and I figured that I'd do some mod on my Mazda 3 2006 2.0l. So I'm reading on the forums cheap mods and I came across 2 of them. The ETB grounding mod and the Resonator Delete.

So I took out that blood resonator by taking off my front wheel and getting at it through there, one of those screws were a bitch. Thankfully I got it off and the car sounds freaking amazing. It's nice a growly sound in the low to mid revs which is perfect.

I hated the throttle lag that I had so finding it on the forums was great, what was even better was finding out how easy it was, I used 10 gauge wire, attached one end to the TB, ran it through the battery box and attached it to the ground screw that grounds the battery. Note that I unplugged the negative from the battery while doing this.

SO now I'm doing a test drive, car sounds amazing and it's responding like I want it to. Since the battery was unplugged my average fuel consumption was gone, so I figured that I would keep on eye on it.

I drove from Derry on the 427 south to the Gardener, East to the DVP, then North to the 401, then West back to the 427, then North back to Derry, then home.

Here's the issue I have at hand, before I did any of these mods, I got 8.9to 9.0L/100km. I am not getting around 7.5 to 7.7L/100km. No where did I read stated that those mods would increase gas mileage. So I'm wondering if they actually did or if I some how ****ed with my car and messed up the computer that reads fuel consumption.

TL;DR

Did some mods, gas mileage got way better, asking to see if that's normal or if I broke something.

Thanks very much,

Fox7rot

lol that is pretty funny, never heard that. My car is getting like an average of 12L/100km lolz. getting 7-8 is pretty good. that is until u start doing more mods, no doubt you will be spending more on gas without a proper tune. welcome to tm3. lets get modding!

You did all highway. so i dont see anything i didnt expect. Drive a few days and youll get a real example of your COMBINED fuel consumption.

Fuel consumption has alot of factors, weather, how you drive, where you drive, ect ect ect.

To get the best idea of your fuel consumption, start a log and do the math, itll take at least a few weeks but hey.

p.s Unmodded 2007 2.0
avg of 8L/100KM

Did you just buy this 06 Mazda? If so, could it be that after disconnecting the battery and resetting the measurements, you're now reading YOUR average fuel consumption as opposed to the previous owners? I'm not sure how quickly the measurements fluctuate.

Can you post a link to the thread you used for the throttle response issue?

I'm aware of the fact that most of that was highway travel, but I did that on those highways at 6:60pm. So I wasn't just zipping on by. At the same time my average highway consumption before the mod was roughly 8.7 to 8.9l/100km. I'll keep my eye on it to see if it gets back to my old normal, but I've never had my car at any point in time, highway travel or not, average at 7.6 to 7.7l/100km. I am happy to see that no one noticed a problem yet :)

As for the link to the throttle body grounding. I have the link, though it's from another site, it had very useful pictures for me, though they are on the 10th page. I'm not fully aware of the rules so if I break it by posting please just delete my post.

No, I had my battery disconnected before and I also reset the reading from time to time.

Just so you know the throttle body grounding mod does absolutely nothing to increase or decrease gas mileage. I have done it and didn't notice a difference at all.

Traffic, a heavy foot, weather conditions, roads, etc will all contribute to better or worse gas mileage. Also resetting your computer (removing neg battery terminal) may have affected your mileage also since it's readjusted some setting for fuel/air delivery, etc.

the longer your computer is reading your average milage the longer it will take to adjust that average. therefore by resetting your computer, its not reading your average consumption just on that trip you made. give it a few days/weeks of driving in traffic and normal everyday driving, and it'll likely go back up to a "normal" consumption

Okay cool, just as long as it doesn't have to do with me screwing something up, I'm all happy! :)

did you just delete the intake resonator? or did you also add some PVC pipes to direct air into the box?

Nope PCV piping attached. I just took the big thing off then did the throttle body ground.
