ILR Track School - July 30, 2011

I'm wondering who will be attending Ian Law's Track School July 30, 2011, for lapping or for the school. Add your name to the list below if you are attending (or PM me and I can add 'anonymous'). I'm not organizing the day, so if you are coming, please contact Ian directly to reserve your spot.

For those who are unfamiliar with the school, it is a quality program with good instruction in a safe environment. Ian runs a tight ship, with no shenanigans. The instructors are good guys and so are the lappers; this is a great learning experience for anyone. Track School is also a requirement if you intend on lapping with Ian in the future. Some members have already taken the School and have said great things about it.

There is often the perception that you need a modified car to go to the track, when in fact, this is not true. Actually, there are members here who I have witnessed lay down some very quick lap times in virtually stock cars. You should have a mechanically sound car; good amount of brake pad material, fresh fluids, and good amount of tire tread. You do not need aftermarket springs, swaybars, or power mods. This event is all about driving at your own pace, to your own abilities. I'd prefer to keep this thread clean for the purposes of the list.

Haven't even started payment...just sent an email asking what I need to do and what info they need to put my name down. I didn't mention TM3 as I wasn't sure there would be any difference.

Of course TM3 members get preference and we don't have a roster yet. At this point, we have not firmed up pricing. Will keep you posted.

Normally $350 + HST for track school, $150 + HST for lapping. *Lapping is only available to those that have went thru Track School w/ ILR already.*

Is there a prerequisite to taking the track school course? such as advanced car control?
Having no experience, I'm not sure what's what. lol
Everytime I want to take the course, time and $ are holding me back :(

There are no prerequisites, except a drivers license, car, helmet (Ian has some loanders), time and $!

With respect to helmets where can I go if I were looking to buy? And how much should I expect to spend on one that isn't the Bentley of helmets? More like... the Mazda of helmets... haha

A bit of a drive but I went to GPBikes in Ajax for mine. They had a good selection to try on.

I got plain black in 2 XL so it's DOT rating and Snell M 2010 so should last me as long as I'm in no accidents or do anything to compromise it's safety. I think this is the least expensive that has DOT and Snell rating...at least full face (which I preferred for what I was getting it for).

Yeah, I never shopped for helmets before either but I was referred to that shop by people on here and gave it a shot (decent price). Not sure if the sale is still on, they had a bigger discount when I got mine a few weeks ago. Was like $127 or so after taxes. So good price to do the odd track day as well as go kart days so I don't have to use a common helmet.

Sweet. As I told Fobio, me and my friend knew pretty early on we wanted to do the first track school of Ian's this year. Going with a like minded group will hopefully just add to things. Already looking forward to the day.

No, it isn't a requirement. It's a good idea to take Car Control School because they continue to build on the techniques and lesson taught when you attend Track School.

Update:

TM3 is working to formalize our relationship with Ian Law Racing/Car Control School, so that our members will continue to enjoy preferred pricing, as we have at the first Car Control School that took place in April. The goal of this is to promote better car control, road safety, and a controlled environment for us to enjoy our cars.

Once we have this wrapped up, we will update again.
