View Full Version : UPS lost my package
I ordered a Dr Colorchip kit a couple weeks ago. My payment cleared, and they shipped it by UPS. I check the tracking number on their website when I got home and it says its already been dropped at the front door around 11:01 in the afternoon...
My question is, why the f*** would UPS leave a fair-size noticeable box (worth $77) unattended, in the middle of the afternoon, knowing nobody was home, and assume it won't get stolen????
What am I supposed to do here? Do I contact Dr. Colorchip and ask them to send me a new kit since UPS messed up? Can UPS do something about this? Or is this going to turn into one of those things where the hassle isn't just worth the time and effort to deal with?

As far as i know...they cant leave it in front of your door if noone was home...they will bring it to the nearest mail pick up location...
I dont know why they left it there...?!? Thats fcked bro..
Contact UPS and tell them what happen and they should do something about this...
This happened to my package before worth $95 and i explained them what happen...they gladly paid for it..
Meet soon bro?

Sorry to hear.
This had happened to me as well, but it was Canada Post who was the culprit. I had purchased something from Amazon and they left it on my front step. Almost $200 worth of stuff in there. Luckily I was home that day and got my parcel before anyone else could...
Anyway, you need to contact UPS, not Dr. Colorchip. You didn't sign anything so you wont have a problem with getting reimbursed.

Depending on the type of service as well, if you paid premium, they would usually leave a note saying that they would either come back or would leave your package for pick up at the nearest UPS store near you. If it was shipped via the regular service, they tend to leave it by your doorstep.
Here is a link wherein you can file a claim, it is always worth a try:

They are within their "right" to leave the package. Also if no one is home and they don't leave it, there is no place they will take it, they will take it back to the depot in concord as they are "not allowed" to try to redeliver twice in one day. Or so they say.

purolator and fedex usually stores it, same with canada post. ups will sometimes store it at a canada post office, but most often times leave it at the door. not quite sure what their policy is but i've had a mixture of both. luckily with no missing packages thus far.
try and contact ups and see if they can do anything, it's at least worth a call. dr. colorchip will definitely not do anything for you since it's not their problem.

Moved to General Lounge.
I just called UPS a couple of mins ago. They tell me the driver dropped it on house #25, instead of 26 which is my house. So I walk over to my neighbours right away, you would think 25 and 26 is just right next to each other but no... 25 happens to be on the other side of our crescent street. I ring the doorbell, wait 3 mins and no one was answering. I knock on the door, their little dog start barking at me on the window and still no one's answering the door. Its weird because I can hear some noise coming from the inside that sounds like someone's watching television. I was standing there for more than 10 mins.. I got pissed off and decided to just come back later on in the evening.
UPS told me, if house #25 didn't have the package.. I'm supposed to call the shipper (Dr. Colorchip) and ask them for a tracer. What is this tracer business anyway? and does it work?

Purolator... Ugh.
A few years back, I had a package (which was critically important) pending delivery to work via Purolator, so I sat at a desk at the very front of the building, where I could see the entire (glass) front. We also posted a big sign (three letter-sized sheets of paper) with the unit number on it for visibility. They never showed up.
Then when we called them, they insisted they had tried to deliver it three times, nobody was there, and the item was going back to the warehouse. *facepalm*
Admittedly, UPS has done a few dodgy things (ie. leaving the parcel on the doorstep), but as I've always received my packages from UPS I don't have the same ill will towards them which I do for Purolator.

Canada Post is no better...... more than once my wife has watched the post guy walk up to our house, shove the mail in the slot and move on. And we'd find included in that days a mail a "no one home pick your stuff up at the post office" card.

Should have called and filed a complaint against the carrier. Attempts must always be made, and there are a few employees that cheat the system. I've seen employees sit at their table and card all their items before they leave the station and never take the item out of the building. If enough complaints are filed against one individual an audit can and will be done(I was audited just before the strike, the issue was not resolved but the client/recipient was satisfied with the results).

Don't we all think that?

The young Purolator drivers I see around are somewhat a bit arrogant. I work part time for a courier company who has a contract with Purolator to deliver domestic for areas not within our reach. There was this young driver who arrogantly slammed the boxes on his multi-van while doing a pick up. Our depot supervisor was right in front of him and was totally surprised at what he was hearing and seeing. Not only were the boxes being mishandled but he was rude to the depot supervisor.
Sometimes it all boils down to attitude. This type of people don't give a rat's ass about the packages, they are more worried about their run-time. On the other hand, I have seen the "older" Purolator drivers and they are no where near like this arrogant young driver.
While I understand that driving a multi-van around the city the whole day is not that easy, my only thought is......."why did you even apply for that job buddy?" Certainly gives courier drivers a bad rep.

Thought about it...... it's not really too much of a pain to pick stuff up at the postal outlet, and I really didn't want to risk my mail ending up in a puddle all the time.........

Good advice. Might have to do that next time. Happened to me once where someone was home all day but still had a tag on the door saying no one was home. Along the same lines, there's been times that they ring the doorbell as they post the note and just continue to walk away. That's not really a delivery attempt if you don't leave time for the person to even answer the door.
On the other hand, there was one time were the person went above what I was expecting. I was waiting for a package and decided to just sign the release to leave it at the door. I was sick and wasn't sure I'd be near to answer. Turns out the person instead of just leaving it and walking away still rang the doorbell just to sure and was ready to leave it just as I got to the door.
UPS, so far other than the extra payments for shipment, I've had no real issues with them as of yet. Just wish they'd pick a closer depot to leave it at to make pickup easier.
